Baby Products Reviews of KidCo Food Mill

Customer Review: Good product
Summary: 4 Stars

I have used this mill for about 6 months on a regular basis for pureeing all kinds of vegetables and fruits; sweet potatoes, peas, apples, pears, bananas, cooked rice and lentils, cherries, oranges, etc; some steamed (sweet potatoes) others raw (oranges, cherries)and this has worked beautifully every single time.

Only reason for four stars is after repeated and extensive use this mill has gotten scratched and nowadays I worry about it not getting washed throroughly especially because of the nicks and scratches-maybe use of more durable and BPA free plastics (not sure if this is currently BPA free) would be advisable.

Overall a good product, definitely a more economical alternative to buying jarred food, although I have resorted to that on occasion for convenience.

Customer Review: Food mill works for boiled fruits/veggies but not so good for other foods
Summary: 3 Stars

This baby food mill is really great if all you want to do is mash up boiled/steamed fruits and veggies. However, if you are interested in processing anything hard, or raw, or with texture like raw melon or meats and other things, it is very difficult to get the food through the mill. The problem is that 1) the cutter has no blade, it's just a blunt metal tab that turns when you turn the handle 2) To get the food to go up through the holes, you have to push down manually while you turn the crank, and for anything harder than a boiled zucchini, this can take a good deal of effort. Still, this is convenient for the things it can do well, it is easy to wash, and you can feed the baby right out of it. I'd say to get a serving of steamed pears onto the table takes all of maybe 6 minutes.

Customer Review: I love it
Summary: 5 Stars

This isn't the best for babies under 6months... it doesn't get foods as smooth as the step 1 foods you buy in the store. But keeping that in mind...

This comes in very handy. I started grinding foods in this with my 6 month old. It is easier for me to grind some food for him right at the table so he can eat some of the things we are eating, rather than prepare and store his food in advance.

I decided that one isn't enough. I prefer to run things through the dishwasher so they are more sterilized than washing by hand and I tend to use this for two meals a day. I don't like to feel pressed to load and run the dishwasher before dinner... It usually isn't a problem, but things are hectic at times. Its also nice to have one clean for traveling.

Customer Review: ?Healthy for baby? HAH! I think not.
Summary: 1 Stars

My children are both grown and my first grandbaby is due in Sept.
I used one of these for both my kids from the time they could eat solid food. BUT, the one I had did not have PLASTIC BLADES!!! It says on the box that they are metal, and one is. But the disc it grinds against is plastic so you are grinding tiny shards of plastic into the food with each turn of the handle. With the knowledge nowadays of the dangers of ingesting plastic, this is ridiculous. The idea is great; the execution is not only flawed, it is dangerous. I returned it as soon as I opened it. The products on Amazon are sometimes difficult to judge until you have them in your hands, but I have NEVER had a problem with sending back an item for a good reason. Amazon is the best.

Customer Review: Dinner in a snap
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a great food mill. So far I have only used on fruits/veg but just love it. When I make dinner for the family it almost always includes a roasted veg of some sort. Now I just roast a small portion of the veggies without the salt and toss them in the food mill, add a little water and presto! Dinner is ready! I wouldn't recommend this for a baby who is just starting with solids. This doesn't give you the pureed, smooth consistancy of Stage 1 baby food in a jar. It's a little more lumpy but still easily eaten by a baby without teeth. It also worked really well on veg that still had a 'bite' to them. They were fork tender but not mushy. This food mill turned them into baby food quickly. Will be using this nightly from now on.
