Customer Review: DANGEROUS FOR CHILDREN

The first gate we had broke off at the bottom vertical rail. Our daughter opened the gate, her foot pushed against the rail and it broke off the weld cutting her foot. Since then we have been through 2 more replacements, and one individual rail on each gate has broken off, again at the weld, but this time at the top. If the rail had broken off the top and a child had been running, it could have impaled them because WHEN THESE RAILS BREAK OFF THEY ARE EXTREMELY SHARP.
When we called customer service, the woman working there asked us " what are you running there, a day care?"
These rails on these gates are ONLY WELDED ON ONE SIDE, and the gate has to be lifted to open. This lifting seems to create a stress on the welds, and since it is only welded on one side they eventually break with usage.
We are including images of all three gates so that people can see this, because it is my opinion that this could be a very dangerous situation for a child that runs and falls into a gate.

This gate was exactly what I needed & was looking for. I needed to block the baby from the kitchen,I have a very opened floorplan so this was a problem. I spent many many hours researching gates. This one was a bit more expensive, I needed 1 extension, but looking at the others this one had the best reviews & the least problems. I LOVE the fact that the mount is high & not at the bottom. That means the gate will fit FLUSH on the floor & the rail that runs under the walk through gate with be on the floor & not allivated. Some of the other gates I reseached had the mount on the bottom so the gate was elevated if you have baseboards. If so that rail is off the floor & poses a trip hazard. Also the latch is very kid friendly & not a pinching hazard as with some of the others. My 6 year old can use this gate without problem. The ends where each of the 3 pieces come together are on a spring or ratchet, they pivot into place which makes it move a lot less.Customer Review: Great gate

This gate is awesome! My daughter has a playroom that is the formal living room in our home. Her playroom is connected to the formal dining room and the entry way to our home. We need to contain her and that's just what we did! She is a very active 6 month old. She is quick! Well, the one thing I didn't know but fell in love with is the fact that the wall mountings attach then you slip the piece into it like you would to hang a picture on a nail. Well, it pops down in there and is sturdy. You can push little tabs at the bottom in with a screw driver and take the gates down without having to remove the wall mountings. So if your little one grows out of having the gates you can take them down and leave the wall mounting up and when you need them again it will take literally seconds to put back up. It takes literally seconds to take off also! GREAT JOB on the gate A+++.Note: 6 screws into your wall total. Not that bad when you know your child is secure.

We bought this gate to keep our new lab puppy in certain area's of the house. It is installed in a 6ft opening. My husband is over 6ft and is able to step over it (most days without tripping).This gate can withstand our 40lb-4 month old lab. He puts his front paws on it and literally jumps straight in the air. He can't get past it because he doesn't have anything to leverage his back feet on. Other times he is bouncing off it--charging at it (trying to get to the cats). It doesn't move at all.
Each side installs with 3 screws. The gate swings easily in both directions with a squeeze of one hand. Toddlers wouldn't be able to open it, but older children might be able to with 2 hands. The slats are not large enough for our cats to walk thru, they have to climb over but can easily jump with a lab pup on their tail. :)

I was pleasantly surprised by the construction of the bars and the hinges of this gate. The coating on the metal is very nice to the touch. The wall attaching mechanism is easy to figure out. I only wish they had suggested that drywall anchors might be needed to secure this to the wall. I also bought the black fireplace gate (also by Kidco) and am very pleased with that too. My 9-month old enjoys standing up holding on to the bars and it has made life so much easier now that she can't get into certain hazards on the other side of the gate. My only complaint would be that adjusting the hinges between sections is moderately painful to my hand but this is only necessary to do while setting up the position of the fence and not a daily problem. The gate opening mechanism is a great design.
