Baby Products Reviews of Itzbeen Baby Care Timer, BlueCustomer Review: ALMOST a good gadget...but not quite. Summary: 2 Stars
When I heard about this gizmo, I had one overnighted to me so that I would be sure to have it on hand when #3 is born. Unfortuntely, it has not met my expectations. With my first 2 babies, I kept detailed notebooks tracking wet and poopy diapers, sleeping times, and feeding times and sides. Since I often fell asleep before recording information, or was so sleepy my writing was illegible, I thought this was just the thing for me. However, all this item amounts to is a four-setting stopwatch. What would make all the difference in the world would be a MEMORY FUNCTION. If I could wake up in the morning and scroll back through the feeding and diaper change times of the night, or if I could see how sleeping patterns are emerging over time, now that would really be something! But as it is, each time I reset a button, the previous time is lost. The only thing this item is useful for is the light, the clock, and making it so I won't have to calculate the amount of time that has passed from clock time to clock time. I will still have to use a notebook to record any meaningful information.
I hope the makers of Itzbeen are listening! Or someone else! If you make a timer like this with a MEMORY FUNCTION, I will be overjoyed, and I will buy one every time a friend has a new baby! (And please include separate buttons for wet and soiled diapers--this is very important information for newborns.)
Customer Review: Coolest new gadget for parenting. Summary: 5 Stars
It is designed with features for life with a new baby: it has a night light, backlight for seeing the numbers in the dark, a left side/right side reminder for breastfeeding. It is basically a count up timer from when you last pushed the button. There are 4 of them with pictures of a diaper, bottle, zzzz's, and a star. How long ago did you change a diaper (8 hours.. too long), when was the last time you took your pain medication, how long has she been sleeping (or awake). I think it really helped in those early days to figure out their sleep/feed pattern. It is also a reminder timer with sound alarm and/or blinking button. Turning the sound alarm on or off is simple slide button on the side. You want to feed every three hours, set the bottle timer for 3 hours and with a simple push of a button you can turn it on to start counting up again which turns off the beeping and/or blinking light. We even used it as reminder to take a toddler to the potty. We set the timer for 2 hours and when he put up a fuss that he didn't want to stop playing to go we showed him that the light was blinking red and he got to push the button after he was done. Only down side is that the timer can only be set in half hour increments. It is a little chunky to clip on anything, but it stands up nice on the counter. I love it for medication reminders. It is a cool tool and very simple to use.
Customer Review: Cool, But Not Necessary Summary: 3 Stars
1. Feed Indicator: I really really wanted this after the birth of my son so I could remember when the last time I fed him was. When I remembered to have it next to me it was great to be able to push the bottle button when I would start to nurse him and then I would have something to reference later. After his birth, my brain was malfunctioning a lot and I was nursing him every two hours and this helped. Besides that, I did not find any other use for it.
2. Diaper Indicator: Who cares when you last changed your baby's diaper? If it is wet or soiled, change it. His diapers had a little yellow line on the front that would turn blue when wet. Easy. Change the baby.
3. Nap Indicator: Infants don't have napping schedules, they sleep when they sleep, so this function was useless to me. Now, that my son is 4 months old, I may have a use for this function, but by now none of the other buttons are of any use to me.
4. Whatever You Want Indicator: I didn't use this for anything.
Often I would sit down to nurse and realize that I left the Itzbeen in the living room and end up not pushing the button. Eventually, I just stopped using it all together and resorted to having a scrap of paper and a pen in all my nursing locations. With all this said, I don't blame you if you think it is cool and want it anyway.
Customer Review: lifesaver Summary: 5 Stars
I cannot imagine my life without this timer! I have a new baby and a toddler, and with "placenta brain," it is very easy to lose track of time. This timer is always there to remind me how long it has REALLY been since my baby last ate, was changed, etc. This is good for two stand-out reasons:
1. My husband and I take turns with the kids and this way we don't have to write anything down or do any extra communicating about when baby was last fed/diapered. This particularly helps my husband guess what baby might be crying about and whether he needs to actually wake me up to feed (the only thing he doesn't do).
2. There are days when time gets away from me...it seems I blink and it's already 3 hours later. My sense of time is off, particularly when I'm not getting regular sleep. I can silence the timer if I want, but I can also leave the alarm on (and adjust it in 1/2 hour increments up to 24 hours), so it reminds me when it's likely baby will want to feed. Each of the four buttons has it's own timer/alarm you can set independent of the others (or you can turn each off).
A relative who just had a baby with Cystic Fibrosis swears by this timer, for all their crazy schedules. I cannot agree enough!
Also, customer service is INCREDIBLE. They are friendly and quick to respond to any concerns you have. Very helpful.
Customer Review: I wish I had this sooner! Summary: 5 Stars
This is a wonderful product, sturdy and extremely effective in helping assist "Mommy Brains" in keeping their little angel's schedules in line. At the touch of a button, this timer keep track of the time between feedings, if you are nursing like I did, it is GREAT for helping you remember which side you started with last time! It times naps, diaper changes, and even has an "anything" button timer for Mommy. It has two different ways to illuminate, one is dim and stays on for a few moments, great for in the dark setting. The other is bright, and is great for navigating dark nurseries! My son is 10 months old today, and I still use it, however not as much as I did when he was younger. It came most in handy for nursing. Even once he is a toddler and out of diapers etc I am still going to keep this handy tool around, it has so many uses! Time between meals? Workouts? Medication? Aww, it even has an alarm! I love this product and hopefully you will too. I will mention, however that I did not pay even half as much for mine as it is listed for on this website. I went to a local outlet store that touts itself as a coat factory of all things, and found it on clearance for less than the price of two mochas as my favorite coffee shop. Bottom line, this is a tool I wish every Momma could have.
