Baby Products Reviews of Grobag Egg Digital Room ThermometerCustomer Review: Great in theory, not in practice Summary: 2 Stars
I bought this thermometer because the temperature in the baby's room fluctuates widely over the course of the day/night and thought that the quick visual of the colored light would help us monitor and adjust the temp accordingly.
The idea behind the thermometer is great! Unfortunately, the temperature sensitivity was inaccurate. When placed in front of an open window in the middle of winter in the northeast US (approx 30 deg outside at the time), the thermometer reading was 77. I tried placing the thermometer at different locations in the room, and the temp reading only varied by a few degrees from the 77, even though the overall temp in the room was significantly lower.
When I was having problems with the thermometer, I searched online and found that the inaccurate temperature rating was a common complaint, so I returned the item and purchased a standard indoor/outdoor thermometer, which I hope will work better.
Customer Review: The egg works for me.. Summary: 4 Stars
We have very drafty bedrooms, and an inefficient floor furnace in an old house, so I was very worried about the baby being too cold. We got this because it was cute (I'm a sucker for creative packaging..) and seemed to be easy as far as the color-coded system. After plugging it in, I found that you have to wait at least 10 minutes to get an accurate reading. I'm guessing it just has to acclimate to the room. We plugged it in in the afternoon, got a warm reading, which made sense. Then checked it first thing in the A.M. 7:00 ish, and it was in the "yellow" perfect zone. Yay, happy. Although to me, it seemed like 62 degrees would be a little cold. That's the good zone according to the egg. I'll check with my pediatrician, of course.
Not sure what's up with all of the other reviews, but I'm guessing that they didn't give the egg time to adjust to the room.
Customer Review: Great Baby Gift Idea Summary: 5 Stars
I received this as a baby gift and think it's great! I like the fact that we have a thermometer in the room and the night light that changes color is a pretty cool feature. The only negative thing we've found is that we don't agree with the "legend" of what they say is normal verses too hot. If we agreed with them, the baby's room would be way to uncomfortable. But it really doesn't matter or affect the product, as long as parents are smart enough to decide for themselves if the room is too hot or not. This is a great deal too, as I've seen specialty stores and boutiques sell this product for as much as $70.00! This nifty little egg makes a great gift at a great price!
Customer Review: A good night's sleep - Grobag Thermometer Summary: 4 Stars
I simply love this thermometer and it makes for a good night's sleep. My son loves to look at it too - we say 'Goodnight Mr Egg' every time he goes for a nap or to sleep at night.
Yes, the thermometer is sometimes off by upto 2 degrees but I never find it off more than this. I got another digital thermometer to check as I had to set my mind at ease.
Now, a quick glance at night is all I need to get back to sleep without any worries. It also acts as a very good night light when it is yellow too.
Overall, I'd say this was one of my favourite baby items and will recommend this to all my friends.
Customer Review: waste of money Summary: 1 Stars
So it gives the temperature - nothing else ... and not even that very accurately. Disappointing since the grobags are great and their sleep-suits are some of the best (esp for "long" babies) ... I followed their "dressing your baby" temperature guide with grobags and used the thermometer and, (stupid me), my poor little bubba was so cold all night that he eventually ended up with bronchiolitis .. and was sick for a month (that's a new mother for you ... never knowing how warm/cool to dress them). Should've just used common sense and thrown the thermometer out ... take care.
