Description of GroVia Certified Organic Cotton Soaker Pad 2 Pack
Gro Baby Organic Cotton Soaker Pads are designed to be super absorbent yet trim. Your Gro Baby Pads will mean smaller loads of laundry that use less water and detergent. Their unique design wash well and dry quickly! *To Use: Simply snap your Gro Baby Pad into your Gro Baby Shell. When wet unsnap and replace with a fresh Gro Baby Pad. If soiled, place both Pad and Shell into diaper pail and start with a new set! *Washing: Gro Baby Organic Soaker Pads must be washed/dried on hot 3 times prior to first use and WILL NOT reach it's full absorbency until approximately 6-8 washes. Remove as much solid matter as possible. Place soiled soaker pads in a dry diaper pail - no soaking is necessary. Wash every 2 days. Start with a cold rinse. Wash in hot water with half the amount of recommended detergent. Do an extra rinse if desired. Tumble dry or hang outside for extra freshness and to remove stains. Customer Review: Love the insert - but it sticks out of Grobaby shell for newborn setting

The soaker pads are easy to put on the cover and reduce the amount of material to wash due to their trim size. Since they are cotton, you can actually feel when they are wet (as opposed to fleece). They are soft when you dry them in the machine (they are stiff if hung to dry), and the stains come out well if laid it in the sun. But you'd probably need to inspect them before putting them in the dryer (and lay them in the sun to take care of any stains).
When used in the Grobaby shell on its smallest setting (for newborns), the soakers stick out about an inch when the shell is snapped down to its smallest setting, which is not good for newborns who still have their umbilical cord stumps. I emailed the company, and they told me to fold it down. Considering that the soaker would be almost an inch thick when folded, I decided to just let it stick up to avoid making baby uncomfortable. Also, I don't understand why there are two separated layers to this thing, a curvy pad and a straighter booster pad. Why don't they just sew it together the whole way instead of only attaching the two layers together on the ends? It just seems awkward, and I have to make sure to straighted it out as I put it on baby.
UPDATE - Now that my baby is older, the sizing is ok (although I am already on the 2nd button at 3 months... so I'm not sure how long I can use these since I am almost on the largest setting). One thing more thing I need to mention about the soaker is that urine always soaks through to the shell, so it's hard to reuse the shell without the stink lingering (even after you change the soaker). So I do not reuse the shells. I believe this is one of the things the company tried to improve on with GroVia (by putting some kind of waterproof backing on the soaker). Instead, I started putting the soakers inside my Fuzzybunz pocket diaper covers... and they work like a dream! Fits perfects and seems more absorbent than the fleece inserts that came with them. Now I love it.
