Baby Products Reviews of Graco Ultra Clear Dual Parent MonitorCustomer Review: Extremely Durable, Long-Lasting, and Simple Monitor Summary: 5 Stars
This monitor is not for people who want a lot of features - it has volume control (though, as one reviewer pointed out, the lowest volume is still fairly loud), AC or battery (though the battery life is very short), it comes with two units per base, and has two channels. Having said that, if your aim is to leave the unit plugged in and just hear your baby when he/she is crying, this is really a solid product. We bought it when our first daughter was born in 2004. When our second daughter came along in 2007, we were still using the same monitor (not just the same product, the same unit!). Sometime in 2007 we had to replace the AC adapter on the base. That is the only issue I've had with it in over 4 years and am finally having to replace the poor thing now, after 4.5 years of almost continuous use (and we've dropped the various parts, moved it around, and accidentally ripped it from the wall numerous times, packed it with us on airplane trips, etc.). The short battery life was never an issue for us - since the product provides you with two satellite units, we just plugged each one in on opposite sides of the house and left them there - no need to walk around with it. And though one *very* occasionally hears interference produced from other devices, there is no background noise whatsoever with our unit on a continuous basis so long as you make sure the base and satellite units are set to the same channel. Note that we are a "geek" household and have tons of potentially interfering devices. I tried more expensive, high frequency monitors and monitors that looked cool, but none have worked nearly as well as this unassuming little Graco. It's a good buy.
