Baby Products Reviews of Graco SnugRider Infant Car Seat Stroller FrameCustomer Review: A GREAT STROLLER, BUT PLEASE READ THE 5 Stars
I spent a LOT of time debating all of the different types of strollers, and eventually settled on TWO - this one and a Bugaboo. THIS one I use ALL the time. It is ridiculously easy to open and close, and is great for anyone who will be using it primarily for indoor use (although I haven't tested it extensively outdoors, it rides fine over the smooth pavement but doesn't maneuver over significant bumps, i.e. uneven sidewalks, very well). BUT ONE VERY IMPORTANT THING THAT I NOTICED ANOTHER REVIEWER MENTIONED - SHE SAID THAT THE CARSEAT POPPED OFF THE STROLLER WHEN SHE WENT OVER A CURB (CAUSING SIGNIFICANT INJURIES TO HER BABY), BUT THIS WOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED HAD SHE ROTATED THE TWO RED SAFETY TABS ON THE UPRIGHT BARS SO THAT THEY WENT OVER THE FRONT OF THE CAR SEAT (LOCKING IT IN PLACE). So, it is NOT a dangerous stroller - just make sure you read the instructions.
Oh, and the reason I got the Bugaboo is because, while it is quite expensive, it is high quality, comes with very nice accessories, and is convertible in so many ways (from bassinet with several different positions to upright stroller with riding board for your older child). If you want a stroller for very frequent use on pavement (whether just for walks around the block or if you live in or near a city) that can hit almost any bump (other than a crater!) and handle it well, get a Bugaboo! It will last for YEARS, and retains its value (in case you want to sell it).
Customer Review: Love this stroller frame Summary: 5 Stars
I never take the time to write reviews, but I loved this stroller frame enough to write one. This type of frame was recommended by the Baby Bargains book as an alternative to a travel system, and I was so glad I went this route. I am barely 5'0 tall (and weigh less than 100 lbs) and yet was able to use it so easily that I took it in and out of the car even for a trip as short as running into the bank or dry cleaner (vs. carrying around the infant seat by itself, which gets heavier over time). It is easy to open and close (after the initial learning of how to turn the middle of the handle all the way around to fold it up) and maneuver. The handle adjusts so other taller people (e.g., my husband) were able to push the baby easily as well. You can load everything into the basket (you just have to use a flatter diaper bag or a few smaller bags versus one tall one) and can be hands/shoulder-free. I was amazed at how much the basket could hold. Having cup-holders also sounded unnecessary initially, but they were incredibly useful. My baby is now almost 10 months old and I don't know what I will do when I have to transfer to a larger stroller (as he outgrows his infant seat). This stroller was like an extension of my arms. There were other mothers in my mothers' group who went out and bought the same one after watching me wheel it around (vs. their fancier bulkier strollers), and they also were glad they did.
Customer Review: Decent stroller frame but not perfect Summary: 3 Stars
I got the SnugRider used so I'm not sure how if this particular model is at all different from the one we have. That being said, we've been using it as our sole stroller with a Graco Safeseat for the past 4+ months in NYC, and while it's a decent stroller frame and has a nice large basket, I have a few gripes:
-the position of the brakes on the back wheels make rolling it up/down stairs nearly impossible, so carrying it up/down stairs is the only option (and the frame, combined with the Graco Safeseat and 4.5 month old, is fairly heavy). This is my biggest complaint, because it makes even a even few stairs a pain in the butt to navigate.
-the wheels are okay, but not fabulous. I say this because I happened to push my sister-in-law's Maclaren stroller frame, and it rolled like buttah! It was a marked contrast, and I'm not really picky about such things. They've also developed quite a squeak (although this may be due to age).
-it's pretty hard to steer one-handed. I am a fairly strong woman, but I'm consistently surprised at how much trouble I have maneuvering it with one hand.
-the folding mechanism on the handle is a little awkward and counter-intuitive. Once you get used to it, it's alright but not wonderful.
All in all, it definitely does its job, and is sturdy and secure, but I'm not 100% sure I would get it again, even used.
Customer Review: This is all you need until baby hits 22 lbs Summary: 5 Stars
I can't say enough about this frame. While other mom friends had expensive, bulky strollers for their little one that couldn't maneuver through a store or up an escalator, I had this.
Pros: So easy to use. The Graco snugride snaps right on (and it works with regular Snugride or Snugride 32). It makes a click sound so you know it has attached correctly. It also has red pegs that keep the carseat securely in place in addition. It is easy to collapse and fits well in even a small trunk. Its wheels are sturdy enough that I have even taken it on the grass though it may be a bit of a bumpy ride if you do so...though since baby is in a carseat that helps absorb some of the shock. Also the basket in this frame is big enough to hold my bulky diaper bag, baby bjorn, and a blanket without a problem. The biggest pro of all is that you never have to wake baby up since the carseat easily snaps in and out of the base.
Cons: Should be common sense, but don't put any hot liquid (like a coffee) in the cupholders! They are not that great. Hot liquid burns are one of the top types of burns for infants. Also, this is not the most attractive of strollers but then again, if you like your carseat's design, it won't matter. The biggest con is that when your baby outgrows the carseat (which it looks like my baby will at 8 or 9 months), you will have to get another stroller.
Customer Review: Great option instead of a standard stroller! Summary: 4 Stars
We purchased this stroller frame to fit our Graco Safe Seat, instead of purchasing a Graco travel system or even a standard stroller.
PROS:
1) Carseat snaps easily into frame and has 2 clips to lock seat in place.
2) Lightweight. It's a breeze to pull in and out of the trunk of my car.
3) Not bulky like travel system strollers.
4) Offers a smooth ride. We take it on all our public outings including walks in our neighborhood. It performs well on sidewalks and paved surfaces.
5) Folds upright instead of folding onto the ground, which prevents stratching of the frame.
6) Adjustable handle bar.
7) 2 cup holders - I use one to hold my car keys and the other to hold a pacifier.
8) Large basket.
CONS:
1) Slightly challenging to fold in the beginning, but once you get the hang of it, it's fairly easy. Folding requires that you simultaniously press a button and twist handle on the handle bar with one hand while pulling the front of the frame towards you. That being said, even my mother with arthritic thumbs was able to fold stroller on her own.
2) The basket is a bit difficult to access. We end up undoing the 2 front clips and tilting the carseat in order to access hard to reach items.
Overall I love this stroller. Highly recommended instead of a travel system.
