Baby Products Reviews of Graco SnugRider Infant Car Seat Stroller FrameCustomer Review: Use it all the time, but wish I had bought a different one! Summary: 3 Stars
I use this stroller frame every day, so it's not so bad that I'd throw it out or anything, but I really wish I had bought one that had a few different features.
Pros:
Folds up very easily
Small footprint doesn't crowd others off the sidewalk and fits easily into elevators
A stroller like this is really a must for those ghastly heavy and awkward carseats -- don't want to break your back!
Fits in the trunk or back seat of my sedan
Convenient for travel -- great for airports!
The basket underneath is a life-saver for grocery shopping if you walk to the store (as I do).
Cons:
Handles very poorly on anything that isn't the glossy mall floor. It does especially badly on the sidewalks and roads around here (Boston). It can't handle the heaved concrete slabs, cobblestones, tree roots, or potholes, and the curbs aren't easy to navigate (though I've gotten a bit used to them).
Prone to tipping over forward when you get caught on one of these obstructions. When I first took my daughter out in this, the wheels caught in a crack on the sidewalk and the whole thing almost went over, so, and this is important...
ALWAYS DO UP THE RED TABS AND THE BABY'S SEATBELT!!!
That way, at least if it goes over she doesn't get launched out. Seriously, it is very easy to tip this thing, especially if you're walking at a decent pace.
Hard to steer, even when you unlock the front wheels.
It's easy to catch the parking breaks when you're walking. Annoying when that happens.
Very difficult to UNFOLD this. It folds up pretty smoothly once you get the hang of it, but unfolding it requires two hands. The women at the airport who helped me through security all told me that the snap 'n go has one-handed opening. That would be very, very convenient.
I've never tried the snap'n go, but I imagine it couldn't handle much worse than this one, and one-handed opening would be a dream come true, so I think you should check that one out instead!
Customer Review: Read this..... Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this after using one of those bulky systems that converts to just about everything. This is our last child, and I learned two things from my first two sons. I only need an infant carseat and affiliated stroller for about the first 9 months. By then my boys are too big to be in those little carseats, plus they hold themselves up well enough to sit an a much more convenient umbrella stroller (we really like the Jeep ones.) So I bought this. I had read reviews about who the steering was all crazy, and the second time I used it, I saw what people were complaining about - it was because the front brakes were on. Once I took them off, it worked just fine. No this stroller will not 4-wheel like a lot of the bulky system strollers out there. If you really think you will need a 4-wheeler, don't buy this one. But taking my son to the park, at the store, normal everyday uses, it was perfect. Many people complained about not being able to get things in and out of the basket. To that I have to wonder: what the heck were you putting in there? No, it won't let you slide a HUGE diaper bag in and out. But again, by the time I had my 3rd child, I had learned to slim down - I realized I didn't need to take their entire room with us everywhere we went. At most I need diapers and wipes, period. But I could also fit my purse, a water bottle, some toys, a blanket and some snacks in there just fine. No different than when we had that big bulky system thing. Your child will not "pop out" if a) he is buckled in to the carseat properly b) if the latch has "clicked" since it is the exact same as with any carseat base in a car and c)if you slide the red tabs OVER the carseat. If you do those three things, no toddler is going to be able to disengage it, people. Like all strollers, this product is susceptible to damage, people. It has its pros and cons, just like every other stroller out there. But it worked for me, suited my budget and didn't take up my entire trunk space either. If I had it to do again, I would buy this stroller....again.
Customer Review: Must Have for Graco SnugRide Summary: 5 Stars
I did a lot of research on infant car seat strollers and was a bit disillusioned by the two that were out there (the Kolcraft Universal and the Snap-N-Go). Reviews for both items showed concerns in using them with a Graco SnugRide (which was my carseat of choice). While some parents mentioned that they both worked great with their SnugRide car seat, there were just as many that had concerns that the strollers didn't fit that model of car seat well and worried of the two popping apart. Examining both of them up close, I could understand why there might be mixed reviews considering all the minor adjustments you have to tweak depending on which car seat you are using.
I guess this Graco stroller recently came out because I hadn't seen it before, but as soon as I did, I purchased it. I was amazed by how easy it was to put together. You really don't need the instruction manual to figure it out, and each of the parts fit together with a very satisfying snap that lets you know that part isn't going anywhere. And when attaching the car seat, there are several places where it gets latched into place so you know the seat won't be popping out either.
We've used this stroller with our newborn and it is amazing. A week after a C-section, I was able to break it down and throw it into the trunk of our car myself (although carrying the carseat with baby inside was another story). At first I thought the latch that holds the stroller together when it is all folded up seemed a bit flimsy, but I haven't had any problems with it at all. I also like the fact that you can lock the front wheels into a straight forward position when you are traveling across bumpy pavement. I use this feature often since the sidewalks near where I live are not very even. I also love the extra large basket underneath. Although it is a bit more in cost, I believe this stroller is definitely worth it for the peace of mind. (Please note: this stroller only works with a Graco SnugRide)
Customer Review: A great, inexpensive option for a stroller Summary: 5 Stars
I am rating this 5 stars as this is a $60 item.
PRO'S
- Lightweight
- East to un/fold although it clicks and takes a little force as if you were breaking it which takes a little getting used to
- Huge basket, mostly easily accessible. I can go to the supermarket and use the stroller basket instead of a shopping cart.
- Two compartments on the handle are handy for keys, remote garage door opener etc and are removable (I know one is labeled a 'cup holder' but it is not suitable for that so they should rename it to avoid losing star ratings for ineffective accessories. I simply put a bottle of water in the basket and find that easily accessible. If I want a coffee I will stop at a cafe, sit down and drink one, not drink it on the go)
- Easily maneuverable
- Used with a Graco SafeSeat it will be a useful stroller for a year
- A cheap way to test the waters to find out what you really need in a stroller because you really do not know before you have the baby
- Fine to use with exercise groups such as Stroller Strides
- Baby faces you so you can talk and interact (I am not looking forward to getting an umbrella stroller)
- Holds car seat in firmly (often one of us holds the stroller handle and the other holds the car seat handle as we go up/down stairs
- I recommend every one to get a SafeSeat car seat and this stroller frame
NEITHER PRO NOR CON
- Comfortable for me at 5'4" tall but my 6' husband finds he can only take short steps
CON'S
The cons I notice I attribute to it's price.
- Non-extendable handles
- Two handed fold
- Feels a little flimsy sometimes
- And the main problem: small, hard, wheels with no shock absorption. I believe there are more expensive stroller frames available like the Quinny tha have better wheels
Again, for a $60 item this is great and I will use it for my next baby.
Customer Review: Modified for TALL people Summary: 3 Stars
I love the idea of this stroll, but Graco makes these too short. I'm 6'8" tall. This stroller is way too short! I haven't found one stroller tall enough for me (yes, I've tried all the high priced stroller too). Why are manufacturers so anti tall people? Sooo.... I added 6" to the stroller handle length.
Here's how I did it. I drilled out the rivets (why not use bolts and nuts like some of the other brands?) just above the handle hinge. I then took off the twisting handle that allows the stroller to fold, pushed the wire down into the pipe. I was then able to remove the whole pipe that is the handle from the stroller.
Now, you need to decide how long (tall) the handle should be. I decided on 6". I took a 6" 3/4" copper pipe (L for strength) and soldered a copper coupling to one end of the copper pipe. This is perfect! The coupling end fits into the end of the U shaped handle (one on each side) and the 3/4" copper bare end fits into the plastic hinge unit (there was a knoch in the steel pipe that I also added to the copper pipe.
Now you need to do something with the wire because it is now 6" too short. I cut the wire an inch above the plastic hinge unit and added an additional 1/16" thick 6" wire to it (make it 7" long for overlap). Now get aluminum wire clamps. They are at home depot or ace. Overlap the stroller cable and the new 7" cable into the clamp. Using a screwdriver and small sledgehammer, hammer dents into the clamp. This will lock the wires together. You will need to do this once more to reattach the wire with the end bar (that slides in the twisting thing (with the red knob). Now to the other wire.
Now slide your wires through the pipe to the middle of the handle while positioning the pipe ends into the hinge unit. Replace the twisting mechanism, add bolts and nuts and you now have a nice tall stroller!
