Customer Review: Poor Design
Summary: 2 Stars
This twin bassinet has some PROS:
1)It is a good size and fit comfortably into our small bedroom
2)The color and overall appearance could match with most home decor
3)The actual "pack n play" bottom part sets up pretty easily
Now for the CONS:
1)The top bassinett part is poorly constructed to say the least. The picture above is deceiving because it appears that the bassinet part lifts out above the mattress - which would makes sense since this would be the easiest way to change the sheet on the mattress. However, to change the sheet, the entire bassinet part has to be taken out - this is not a simple task. Then, you have to slide the mattress out of the bassinet piece, replace the sheet and slide the mattress back through the bassinet piece - while you're doing this the metal bars on the side of the bassinet peice will most likely fall out of place. All in all, changing a sheet will cost you about 15 minutes and a bit of your sanity.
2)The actual assembly of the bassinet part is the equivalent of setting up a cheap tent. The board that slides between the separate bassinets barely fits and is definitely a 2 person job. The two metal bars that suspend the bassinet are very difficult to snap into place and slide out very easily when removing the bassinet to change the sheet.
3)The mattress is poorly constructed. I don't have a problem with it being hard/firm (which it is), but it is flimsy and doesn't lay completely flat in the bassinet. The fabric that covers the mattress is always bunched up which is not safe. I managed to sort of fix this problem by pinning down the excess fabric - however I'm not sure how long this will last.
4)This is minor, but there is no place for a standard mobile. I made my own and hung them from the top of the canopies - again, not sure how this will hold up once the twins get here.
5)I agree with other reviewers who complained that the directions were totally useless. The pictures are not helpful and they completely skipped certain steps of assembly. You will figure out how to set it up, but Graco could have made it much easier.
Unfortunately, there are not many options out there for twins. However, I would not recommend this product to parents of twins. For the price, I would buy 2 separate bassinets (which would probably take up about the same amount of room) and then buy a cheap pack n play for later on. This thing is just more trouble than it's worth!!
