Baby Products Reviews of Graco Nautilus 3-in-1 Car Seat, MatrixCustomer Review: Graco Nautilus Summary: 4 Stars
This chair seems good enough for the price we paid. Our 4 yr old boy uses it and seems very comfortable in it. We took two long road trips this winter and our son took many good naps. It has an easy to access cup holder that is deep enough so that the cup does not get top heavy and fall over. The fabric seems sturdy although we are already seeing spots under the crotch area from drinks/food. I wish the fabric hid more of that. The whole chair seems strong and sturdy so I feel confident with its safety.
On the other hand, even though it is a good buy for the buck, we plan on using this seat until our son is 8 (that is the MD law now) and I wish that we had bought the Britax. Our old Britax carseat straps held up better than the Graco Nautilus. The Graco Nautilus straps flip around to easily and the crotch belt slips down into the seat so we have to pull it out from under our son everytime he gets in. Also, he can't get himself out because the release is hard to push. It is even hard for us. (I guess you can look at that two ways, if you don't want your child getting himself out.)
All in all, I would recommend this seat for the price but if you are in it for the long hall I would recommend a higher end seat. Little things make a difference when you are carting around small ones.
Customer Review: Nice and tight. Summary: 5 Stars
I have used many car seats over the last year. Including a Britax for when my baby was an infant. And then on to an older model Graco. The Graco was nice because it had memory foam and my baby loved going to sleep in it, but it had no where for his head to rest. He usually always had it forward and down, chin against chest.
After reading and searching through many carseats, we watched a little video on youtube about the nautilus and were certain it was going to be our dream car seat.
Upon opening the box, I was worried it was going to be difficult to assemble,m as many people did say that was the case. I don't know what their problems were, but in following the very simple instructions, (seriously written for first graders) I was able to get all put together and in my car in under ten minutes. And this is the tightest best fitting car seat for my little sedan.
I'm very pleased with the outcome of this product and would recommend it to all of you who have safety and comfort for your child as your number one priorities. Oh this was also my second thing ordered on Amazon and I will certainly be using them more frequently. I ordered this on Sunday night and by the following Saturday it was shipped here by Fed X for free! It doesn't get better than that.
Customer Review: Love it~! Summary: 5 Stars
We bought this seat for my 4 year old son to transition from his Graco Comfortsport. He's small, 25 lbs. and took a long time to outgrow his old seat. This is our second purchase of this seat. We have bought one for both cars - the other is in brown. My son likes it a lot - the cup holder is great, the cubby's on the side hold a lot of little toys, and he feels like a big boy in this big seat. It is a little heavy and large - but we have no plans to move it so that didnt matter to us. That's considered a bonus to me indicating it is strong and well made.
I love this seat because it's strong, sturdy, harnesses to 65 pounds, then transitions to a booster to 100 pounds, very easy to install - and it looks great in both cars. The only downside I can see is that the buckle sits right underneath him and I always have to pull it out from under him and the shoulder straps do twist quite a bit. This problem has been solved now that my son has been snapping himself in - yes the buckles are easy enough for a 4 year old to manage! But I also prefer the Graco chest straps to all other seats - seriously - check them out - the others are flimsy and I couldnt tell when they were locked!
This seat is a great buy and Amazon had the best price with free shipping and no sales tax!
Customer Review: Fantastic seat, more comfortable than Radian80 Summary: 5 Stars
We had a Radian80 for my larger-than-average 2 year old, but a couple months after using the seat he was complaining about not being comfortable. We finally figured out that the seat had a large tag sewn into the back that the edges of were bothering him, and then discovered that the belt buckle had to be partially behind the seat because of the way the seat was made and my car's buckle (we have a '98 Accord), so it was like a lump in his back!!! So, essentially, if your belt buckle pulls up and away from the seat (the part you buckle into), then the Radian might not be compatable in your car.
Enter this seat, which came onto the market a couple months after we got our other one- - we LOVE it!!! My son today said, "Mommy, something's comfortable." He just loves the seat, he even fell asleep in it.
The harness is so smooth and adjusts easily, and it has a nice cupholder and little cubbies on either side for snacks or toys, which is a nice perk. You can recline the seat (3 recline choices) which the Radian didn't have. It's also low in the car, unlike a Britax which takes up so much room his legs were hitting the seat in front of him. Not so with this seat.
I would highly recommend it, amazing for the price- just wish it had been out before the Radian!
Customer Review: Great seat! Summary: 5 Stars
We bought 2 of these for our son - he is almost 3 years old and he is 33 lbs, 37" tall. He was just looking so big in his Evenflo Triumph & Titan (which both went up to 40 lbs) so we decided to upgrade. The Nautilus looked like an excellent choice for a seat, and it is! We love it and so does our son. We have 1 in our Pontiac Vibe and 1 in our Dodge Neon and it works great in both cars. He's fallen asleep in the Nautlilus in both cars and I've never noticed his head flopping fwd or anything. I do have the seat reclined all the way. Assembly was very simple and the seat was easy to get in using both seatbelt or Latch.
A couple minor complaints:
- The extra fabric in the seat is POINTLESS - it is only good for when your child is using the lowest shoulder setting, and it's a huge pain to get in and out - you've got to take the whole seat out of the car and take the straps out just to get that fabric out. I didn't notice this, and after I had the entire seat installed and inspected, I had to take it out and start all over again to get that fabric out. Why they didn't make it just snap or velcro in and out is beyond me.
- I wish the crotch belt was a little farther fwd. I always have to reach underneath him and fish around to grab it.
