Baby Products Reviews of Graco Nautilus 3-in-1 Car Seat, MatrixCustomer Review: The last car seat Summary: 5 Stars
We needed to replace the carseat for our six year old grandson. He is slight of build so was able to use the original Britax up until now, but it was time to give him a grown up booster seat. It was very important to us that he remain in a five-point harness for as long as possible. We also wanted as much head/neck protection as we could get. Booster seats don't provide either. There are many exceptional carseats that would give us what we wanted but they were pricey. The Graco 3-in-1 has it all. I was drawn to it at first because it was an attractive seat, not big and bulky with and "odd" color. The cup holder was a must but the added "treasure" holder was a bonus. My grandson collects treasures on our outings and he loves his special holding place. I feel very good about his safety with the five point harness and the headrest, which is adjustable. I have one small issue with the seat; the height of the headrest obstructs my view out of the back side window, but I'm am learning to look around it. It was mentioned in other reviews that it is not easy to install, and my husband would agree. I often need to remove the seat to drop down the car's seats for extra storage so can be an issue, but I prefer the safety of my grandson to a minor inconvenience. This is a lot of product for a very reasonable price. My son was impressed enough to buy one for their extra vehicle.
Customer Review: Fantastic seat for the price! Summary: 5 Stars
These are a terrific and affordable alternative to belt-positioners for those who would like to extend the time their kids remain in a 5-point restraint.
I bought a pair of these seats for my 3-year old twins who are getting too tall for their convertible seats but aren't yet mature enough for a belt-postioning booster. My order shipped immediately and arrived the next business day.
The seats are a pretty silver and black, not the drab gray I was expecting. They are fresh seats (4.5 months since manufacture date). Setup was easy and they fit in my Impala nicely thanks to the 3-position recline adjustment. They are large seats (don't expect anyone to sit between a pair of them) but the weight isn't bad and they seem quite sturdy and supportive. The sides wrap around more than I was expecting which is a plus for side impact protection and dozing noggins. The best part is that they can remain in a 5-point harness to 65 pounds or 52" which, according to the growth charts, will be around age 8-9 for my guys! And when they're ready for a belt-positioner or backless booster, no need for a new seat!
The kids LOVE their big-boy seats and they seem very comfortable. It would be nice if the cup holder popped out for cleaning but then again, they'd just pull them out to throw at each other if they did.
Customer Review: Someone FINALLY got a toddler car seat right. Summary: 5 Stars
Took a risk and bought this sight unseen. I am very pleased. Installation is easier than a Britax Roundabout, although taking is back out is harder (different LATCH buckle). I love it that there are hard plastic guides for the booster seat car seat belt. I've been looking for this for years as the sewn ones catch the seat belt and then it hangs loose. I love the adjustable head rest. I agree that one handed in or out is easier in the Roundabout, but I never looked at a Frontier. The seat is not as cushy as the Roundabout, I was a little disappointed, but no complaints from my daughter. Love the cupholder and the cubbies, although they may attract grunge. My only question is how the harness can truly go to 65 lbs with the top harness slots as they are. My daughter is not quite 4, and 30 lbs and seems to need the highest strap setting now. Something to investigate if you have a tall child.
I was able to install very securely in my Mazda minivan, but ONLY if I took the headrest off. If your headrests "jut out" over the seat back and are not removeable, try before you buy.
This is a great seat for the price. I have a 13 yo and 11 yo and have been buying car seats for years. Too bad it took this long for companies to "get it" about the five point for older kids, as well as a good belt positioning system.
Customer Review: Graco Nautilus is worth the price!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought my first Graco Nautilus 2008 when my son was in transition from baby car seat to a 5 point Harness seat. I did a ton of research and decided $250+ was out of my budget for a Car seat. But wanted good Quality with Safety of my son in mind. ON top of that I wanted a car seat that would transition with my son as he grew older.
Not only does Graco Nautilus have all this but their 5 point Harness is good for 65lbs. Now my only complaint like others is the strap that is between the legs of my child is short and to far back for his Height. But at age 4 he can manage. And I think Graco design is meant for Safety of the child. So if the strap has to be short to keep my Son safe then so be it.
My Son and I, where in a Car Accident a few weeks back. It caused a good amount of damage to my car and the other. But my son walked away with no pain and not a scratch on him. I decided that day I was buying another Grao Nautilus. The safety of my son is My responsibility and for that reason I'm writing this review. Why spend more then you have to? Name brand wont save your child, and so I feel very thankful to Graco for making a Car seat that I know first hand now that will save my child in case of another Accident. May it never happen though.
Thank you to Amazon for fast and free shipping as well.
Customer Review: Fantastic carseat -- (5) point harness is critical for your young one Summary: 5 Stars
If you want to cringe, simply do a youtube search on "5-point harness" and watch the side-by-side crash test dummy children, one in a shoulder strap booster, the other in a (5) point harness, and imagine your child (not just a toddler) in the booster. For a full-blown spree of morbidity browse the tragic memorials.
So now you want a good (5) point harness car seat with capacity past the conventional 40 pounds but don't want to spend $300 on a Britax -- enter the Graco Nautilus. My kid loves this seat -- comfortable enough to fall asleep in -- and very easy for parents to configure and deploy. Internal components are exceedingly simple to reach for proper adjustment and all the belts, locks, and latches operate smoothly and are well fitting. Single handed operation during a writhing, violent temper tantrum is effortless. My kid likes storing essentials -- toys, sunglasses, crayons -- in the hollowed cavities in each arm rest. Another plus is the standard size cupholder integrated into the arm rest. I've had unpleasant experiences with the cheap-o L-bracket cupholders.
Personally I like this car seat far better than the more expensive aforementioned Britax models.
Bear in mind that this seat is only for >1 year and >20 pounds since it doesn't accommodate a rear facing configuration.
