Baby Products Reviews of Graco Nautilus 3-in-1 Car Seat, MatrixCustomer Review: I Feel Like My Daughter is Safe in this Car Seat Summary: 4 Stars
We bought the Nautilus over a year ago for our 3 year old daughter. She had previously been in a Britax Roundabout, but her younger brother grew into it. At this point I feel that the seat has some upsides and downsides.
Pros:
1. Versatile - can be used as a 5 point harness seat, a booster with a back, or a backless booster
2. Comfortable - My daughter has never complained about being uncomfortable in the Nautilus. She has fallen asleep in it numerous times and has traveled in it on trips as long as 4 1/2 hours.
4. Cup Holder - This is my daughter's favorite feature!
5. Cubbies in the armrests - Great for storing toys, snacks, and child-size sunglasses
6. Easy to loosen and tighten the straps
7. Seems sturdy and safe
Cons:
1. The buckle is very difficult to attach and detach! I almost always need to use two hands and as a mom, it seems like I usually only have one free! I much prefer the buckles on Britax car seats - they are so much easier to do with one hand.
2. This seat is wide! It takes up a lot of room in the car.
3. Heavy (I guess a safe car seat is going to be heavy)
4. A pain to take apart and wash. We've only done it once, but after that experience we made a "no eating in the car" rule. We don't want to have to clean it again!
All things considered, I do think I would buy this car seat again.
Customer Review: All is good. Summary: 5 Stars
So I have a 11 month old son and 2.5 year old son. I own 2 Britax maratons and 1 evenflo booster (not sure the exact style). My 11 month old had grown out of the bucket seat and we needed to get him into a regular carseat. We have 3 vehicles and didn't want to mess with switching them between vehicles. We do like our marathons but do not have the money right now to buy 3 more of those or 3 frontiers. I read so many reviews and could not decide btwn the Cosco High Back Booster, the Graco nautilis, and evenflo triumph (they were all recommended by friends) so we bought one of each. So now the 11 month old has our 2 marathons and the evenflo triumph and the 2.5 year old has our older evenflo booster, the nautilis, and the cosco. In summary, they all are fine. Yes, the boosters and nautilis sit more upright then the marathon but my 2.5 year old does not sleep much in the car anyways ad the frontier (by the looks of it) would have been very upright as well. They are all sturdy and both my sons fit well in all them and they do not mind any of them. Britax is more plush than the booster or nautilis but does not look like the Britax frontier was very plush. The triumph looks very much like the marathon and is just as plush. I don't know why I was freaking out so much reading millions of reviews since they all are about the same and all had good safety ratings. I have not had to clean any of them yet.
Customer Review: Good carseat Summary: 5 Stars
We bought this carseat because we have always been happy with Graco and we hope that this will be the last car seat that we have to buy our son (Virginia requires kids be in some type of car/booster seat until they are 8). We like that our son can be in a 5-point harness until he's 65 lbs and then we can convert the seat to a high-back booster or backless booster. Our son loves the seat, especially the cup holder. The only thing we don't like about the carseat is that the bottom isn't padded very well...we will have to see how he does when we travel. Also note that the extra padding insert shown with the 5-seat harness only works with the harness straps at their lowest position, so once they pass that, there is no extra padding. Overall, a great carseat for the price. Hopefully it will last for 5 more years! UPDATE: There is no way that your child will be able to wear the 5 point harness until he/she is 65 lbs. Our son just turned three, weighs 30 lbs, and is very slim for his age. We have had to remove the 5 point harness because the strap that goes between the legs does not sit far enough away from the back of the seat, leaving little room for comfort. He complained about it hurting, so we now use the regular seatbelt. Unfortunate, but at least we were able to have the harness for an extended amount of time. FYI...the car seat is extremely easy to use with the regular car seatbelt.
Customer Review: The BEST Car Seat! Summary: 5 Stars
We have owned the Nautilus car seat for 1.5 years now... and I absolutely LOVE it.
Reasons Why We will Be getting another one for our younger daughter too:
1. Our older daughter is 4.5 and is still riding safely and comfortably in the five point harness.
2. The Sippie holder is built right into the seat. So no matter what form you use the seat in your child will always have it.
3. The hidden cubbies on the insides of the arm rest are perfect for storing sunglasses and little toys.
4. The Fabric is durable and doesn't show wear. I have only had to wash ours once.
5. The seat Reclines, ours is set in the recline so that if she falls asleep her head doesn't lean forward.
6. It's easy to adjust the straps. Our older daughter is the only using this seat so we only adjust the straps when she has a growth spurt. But they are easy to do and if she happens to put on a sweatshirt it's easy to let them out a little to compensate for it.
7. The fabric is nice and classy. There isn't any wild flower patterns or cow pattern going on here... it matches my car interior nicely without being bland.
8. It's the last car seat we will buy. IT's so versatile and alot cheaper than other high end models who do not offer this kind of staying power.
I can't rave about this car seat enough. I would purchase it again in a heartbeat.
Customer Review: The Toyota of Car Seats Summary: 5 Stars
This is our second Graco Nautilus car seat. We currently have 5 different convertible car seats from Recaro, Britax, Eddie Bauer, and these Graco. The Graco is the best bang for the buck and has some nice advantages. What we like the most is the easy belt movement. The belt sits on easy running rollers and when you pull it in and out it is very smooth and easy. All the other car seats aren't nearly as smooth and the belts often get stuck. Other than that it has unique storage pockets and an easily adjustable headrest. Overall nice quality heavy duty materials, but no premium materials - kind of like the Toyota of car seats. Our Britax and Recaro have nicer materials and colors.
As far as the negatives I would say that you can't use it rear facing, but I don't care for that. You have to feed the belts in and out when adjusting the height. Our Britax has a handy wheel to do that, so that's much easier. I feel that other more premium car seats like Britax and Recaro might have better side impact head protection since they have bigger and tighter side wings. The latch connectors are simple hooks instead of sophisticated snap in connectors as in others.
The positives outweigh the negatives because the Graco's advantages benefit you day to day (easy belt movement, storage), while its disadvantages only matter occasionally when adjusting the seat or installing it.
