Baby Products Reviews of Graco Digital Deluxe iMonitor Baby MonitorCustomer Review: good but could be better Summary: 4 Stars
First of all this monitor picks up everything! Several times I've walked into our room and wondered who's talking on the monitor only to realize its the TV in the room next to our son's a good 20ft away (yes our walls are thin but come on). Or even the cat walking around. Secondly this monitor has almost NO static whatsoever. We also have the original "Angelcare Movement sensor with nursery monitor" which has great features but constant static. Bought the Graco for use in our 2year olds room when the new baby comes and was pleasantly surprised. There's no interferance between the two even when hooked up in the same room. The graco does fine with unpluged cell phones (which cause extreme static on the other one) and other electronics. It also has a good range so far, we used it at Grandma's in her old victorian house (the type that once had a separate kitchen house that's now been attached). Hooked the monitor up upstairs in one end of the house and then took the handheld unit out to the kitchen house and it worked perfectly, still no static. The only problem we've had is an occasional (3 times in a month) drop in signal which could be the frequency or location...it picks it back up again in a few seconds but you get the beeping alert. And of course I wish it had the motion sensor of the Angelcare. Then it would be perfect.
Customer Review: Baby sleeps, but monitor keeps us awake - too annoying Summary: 1 Stars
We received this graco digital monitor set for a baby shower gift. When it works, it is very clear. Most of the time it's annoying.
We've suffered through it losing connection and beeping extremely loudly. It would be fine if we were pushing the limits of the range, but one room over it loses connection and reconnects twice an hour without being moved or touched.
In addition to the annoying beeping from disconnects, there are static pops, most likely from power line interfereance. If you want true clarity with this device you may have to keep it on battery or use a power filter in front of each plug.
Such a waste of money - we ended up turning it off and leaving all of the doors open to listen for the baby. Our child sleeps through the night without event but the bleeping baby monitor wakes us up every other hour with incessant crackling and beeping. We're awake while our baby is peacefully sleeping.
We decided to buy the Philips SCD590 DECT based monitor that costs twice as much to replace this. It was money well spent. We'll give up eating out for two months to get non-interrupted sleep. Our child sleeps like a baby.. we want to as well.
Don't buy this product -- it's not worth the frustration and annoyance.
Customer Review: Flaws outweigh features Summary: 2 Stars
I bought the dual room iMonitor yesterday. (only available in store at Babies R Us). It is the same as the one shown here, but it has two transmitters to montor two children. Based on only 4 hours of testing, I am taking the unit back.
Pro:
-The range was great. Whole house, plus 800ft outside.
-No interference. I live in a dense suburban area with many sources of interference.
-Easy to setup.
-Shape/size of parent units are much better than others (especially sony)
Cons:
-Controls are not very straightforward.
-The unit always hisses. It is not sound/voice activated.
-The power switch on the parent unit is a button that is not recessed. When you turn it off, it does not beep or let you know that you did. The button is easy to bump, and would make it easy to carry the thing while it is off, and you think it is on.
-The DEAL BREAKER: a power outage requires turns off child units. With even a short power interruption, the child units come up in the "off" mode. You have to go to the baby's room and turn them on. Until you do, the parent unit will beep and flash red.
We have been using the Sony 910 for 3 years with our first child. I guess it has spoiled us.
Customer Review: Awful - returning asap for a different brand Summary: 1 Stars
1) Like others here, my charges do not last more than 5 hours. The beeping from the parent unit WILL wake you at about 3am every night (unless you leave them on the charger).
2) Both of my parent units now (after only two weeks of minor useage) refuse to connect with the nursery unit, beeping endlessly. "Cycling" them on and off per the prescribed (though not well detailed) manufacturer's trouble-shooting method has done nothing. Only logical conclusion: the nursery unit has apparently died and is not sending out a signal.
Also: while they were working I did not really get the hype these units generated. My home is a very common 1800 square feet of two-story "box" type arrangement. The static would become unbearable once the parent unit was taken downstairs and (maybe due to a weak or faulty nursery unit from the get-go), the signal would cut out before we even got to the kitchen. So we either got static or no signal at less than 50 linear feet from the nursery.
Poorly designed (operator interface, controls, directions and trouble-shooting), poorly engineered (poor reception, enormous static, fast battery drain) and poorly manufactured (apparent faulty parts and lack of quality) product.
Customer Review: Great monitor but a few drawbacks Summary: 4 Stars
We bought this monitor after having our third child and moving to a new neighborhood. Our old monitor worked well but picked up our neighbors' monitors and conversations. The design is excellent, very small and portable, and it drops into a charging cradle like a cordless phone, so nothing to plug in. Since two parent units (and chargers) are included, we leave one upstairs and one downstairs - a great convenience eliminating the need to tote one unit back and forth. Even though our house is chock full of cordless phones and has a wireless computer network, we have virtually no static or interference of any kind, and the monitor picks up every sound with great clarity. It has a few minor drawbacks, though. Light sleepers will find that the lowest volume setting is not low enough in comparison to other monitors, making the baby's every move sound very loud in the middle of the night. The battery time, while acceptable, could be better (and is noticeably less than our prior monitor). Also, the LED lights are bright and may keep some people awake at night (and may contribute to battery drain when off the charging cradle). All in all, though, this is a great monitor and I recommend it highly.
