Baby Products Reviews of Graco Baby Einstein Discover and Play Entertainer

Customer Review: Play Entertainer
Summary: 5 Stars

Great product. My baby loves it. She will play in it for a good hour. She especially loves the electronic attachment that makes the animal sounds. There are also plenty of things to chew on for the teething baby. I put extra little toys in the extra spaces, too I'm very glad I ordered this product!

Customer Review: Love it!
Summary: 5 Stars

My son absolutely loves playing in this. He can play for an hour at a time if we let him. Can't recommend it enough!

Customer Review: Wonderful, with one hideous exception
Summary: 3 Stars

Don't get me wrong. Our daughter loves this thing, even now when she's too big to actually get into it, she still wanders up and plays with it. We even thought it was pretty nifty. It is large and takes up a lot of space - which might not be a problem unless you are in tiny institutional housing as we are - so we've decided to dis-assemble and store it in case we have future use.

This is where the problem comes in. For some inconceivable reason, Graco chose the unbelievable bad design route of making every toy and bauble attach with some slightly different scheme. Some just clip into place with plastic barbs that snap in; others use one type of screw, some use different types; still others snap in and THEN need to be screwed. But speaking of gettng screwed... I don't know who the genius was who decided on the scheme to attach the "caterpillar beads" u-shaped toy, but it was the most maddening, difficult, annoying thing to remove that I've ever run across.

It's as if they deliberately chose to make just that one piece as hard to remove as possible without actually scraping pieces of plastic off the thing (which I had to do extensively). And to make it worse, it attaches on two sides, and while both sides use the same horrible mechanism, one side is sunk three inches deeper in a plastic well, and has some pointless plastic sheath over it that has to be removed - with some difficulty - before you can even get to the work of getting the horrid thing detached from within this well where leverage is shaky at best. It took me and my wife, together, with two screwdrivers and alot of sweat and gouged plastic, over half an hour to remove that one item. All the others together took maybe 5-7 minutes to remove.

I have generally loved Graco products and they have served us well. Not to mention that many people may never even confront this issue, if they don't have to dismantle the thing. But this completely idiotic and pointless design decision has made me rethink my future purchases from Graco, if this is the sort of product they crank out. Any product that uses more than two types of fasteners to accomplish the same job is, in my opinion, poorly designed. This was the worst parts of a "batteries not included some assembly required" Christmas morning fiasco, and this experience alone has colored my opinion of their product design.

Shape up, Graco.

Customer Review: damaged delivery
Summary: 3 Stars

The delivery was very fast however the box was opened and poorly taped back together. The open side let dirt inside the package. The item has no apparent damages however I dont know if any will show up when my child actually puts it to use. It is hard to tell if cracks are part of the way the plastic formed when manufactured or if it had been broken during delivery. When I ordered something NEW for 80 dollars I expected better! This was my first time using amazon and it was not a good experience.

Customer Review: Mother's little lifesaver
Summary: 5 Stars

My mother bought this for my son when he was 4 months old. He automatically loved it, he likes hitting things and making lots of noise. Odin is one of those clingy babies that gets bored and whiny all the time, but when I put him in this he automatically starts playing with the buttons on the circular thing. On first touch, each animal makes it's noise. On second touch, the name of the animal is sounded in English, and Spanish on the third. On the fourth touch, it plays a song. For the cat, you have to hit it three or four times to hear the whole song. Odin's favorite is the duck, and when he starts whining, all I have to do is make the duck quack and he's absolutely fascinated again.
It's also a nice toy because you can hook other things onto it. We've got these rings with spaces on them that hook onto a tummytime mat, but I carry them everywhere with me because they're one of his favorite toys. I hook them onto different toys on the entertainer and let him go to town. I also hooked a Leapster keyboard onto it that he makes noise with. It's pretty versatile in that light.
It is NOT a bouncer, it is a stationary entertainer with a seat that swivels 360 degrees. The bottom is rounded, but it's sturdy. There are stabilizers in the package that you can put on the bottom if the rocking bothers you. It really doesn't rock much at all though.
It's pretty tall, Odin is 6 months old now and still kind of tiptoes on it, but it doesn't bother him in the least.
