Baby Products Reviews of Go-Go Kidz TravelmateCustomer Review: practical but not as easy as it seems Summary: 4 StarsI purchased the travelmate to fly to Europe alone with my 18 months old daughter. As I had booked a seat on the plane for her, I figured this was my best option. Walking around the airport with my daughter in it was no problem at all. However, getting the car seat out of the travelmate and watching my daughter at the same time as we got to our seats in the plane was another story. It's not as easy as it seems especially when in a stressful situation and if you have not practiced much beforehand. A stewardess ended up helping me and we were all set. So my point is if you are alone with your child, practice really well attaching and unlocking the car seat before your trip. Better yet, travel with another adult if you can.
On a final note, my daughter ended up spending the night on my lap in the plane, and not in her carseat!
Customer Review: 2010 purchase- works great Summary: 4 StarsI purchased this to take through the airport for my son, we have an Alpha Omega Elite and also an Eddie Baugher (same exact design- different name). The carrier worked great!!! The release strap and the wheels popped off fine. I tried it before we went to make sure I understood how it worked. The only complaint I have is that the extendable handle doesn't lock in the most extended position so it slides back and forth if you don't lock it in the middle extension. Other than that it rolls great and is very maneuverable. I was a little leery of the price but would recommend it to friends and family, the price turned out to be worth it. It definitely saves the arms (I have carried the car seat before and it was VERY uncomfortable.)
Customer Review: go go go Summary: 4 StarsI only wish this item were more readily available in the UK. I caught a glimpse of it in Heathrow Airport on my first trip back to the USA with my then 8 week old son. I knew I had to have it as I would be travelling back and forth on my own a lot with my son.
Although my son is only 9 months and doesn't require a seat on the plane, with the new rules on flights and only being allowed a stroller OR a car seat, i thought this would solve the problem...and it delivered! My son didn't mind being in the car seat as long as we were moving! I don't think I could have managed the flights on my own without this item!
I only give it a 4, though, as I feel it's really FAR too expensive for what it is...a metal plate with a strap and handle on wheels! It's very useful, but surely doesn't warrent the price! Yet, if it lasts through all the future flights and children, then I will rate it a 5.
Customer Review: Awesome...We travelled 11 hours...twice...and it did great1 Summary: 5 StarsMy husband and I recently purchased this because I was going to be traveling alone with our one year old and needed things to be as smooth as possible...and WOW was it ever.I placed the Go-go Kidz Travelmate on the carseat in the airport parking lot and didn't take it off until we arrived at our destination. The carseat was hand checked at security because of the carseat size (not because of any added size of the travelmate) and I simply carried my son through and placed him right back in the carseat and rolled our way to the gate. When we boarded I had help getting the carseat to the airline seat and it went straight in without having to take it off. We asked for a seatbelt extender and it made getting the carseat hooked and unhooked super easy. It was amazing how smooth things went and how much it felt and operated as a stroller. We traveled 11 hours that day...and yes it's pricy, but worth the sanity for me!
Customer Review: Go-Go Kidz Travelmate Summary: 4 StarsThis was a life saver on our trip this past January! With all the stuff we had for winter clothes and other stuff that you end up carrying due to the two year old's attention requirements, having the ability to at least not have to worry about a stroller on top of all that was a blessing. We did end up checking it but because it was thin enough, it was nice to have the option of taking it on or checking it. What I ended up doing to preserve the wheels just in case, was to pop the wheels and rod off and put those in my back pack then checked the rest at the gate. The wheels pop off easily when need to but while in motion, it doesn't pop off. Our daughter had a smooth ride due to the wheels not being your regular plastic rigid wheels. The ratcheted strap made it easy to put on the seat and take it off. I saw that many people commented is that it doesn't go through the scanners and we ran into that problem. Being that we had a large car seat it wouldn't have gone through anyway so it didn't matter. What does help is to get to the metal detector and ask the TSA agent politely how they wanted you to go through - detach the seat or if you can leave it and take the child out and they can put it through another machine. Or be wanded for the whole kit and kaboodle. Both ways had me take out my child and they just ran the whole thing through a bigger scanner. That wasn't a biggie because by the time you pull your shoes on, your child's shoes, make sure you got everything, they are usually done with it. It also proved to be the best at keeping itself out of the way while we were on vacation. Because we were skiing at different resorts and hotels, with all the snow, slush and such, we would have had to haul a stroller with us everywhere and take up the back of the car we rented. Because its so slim, it just slid into the side of the trunk and didn't block the luggage we had. I do recommend practiceing the day before so you know how everything goes immediately in case you have to quickly disassemble it. No biggie because you can break it all down in 5 minutes without practice. I love this thing! My husband was skeptical especially since it wasn't cheap. But my point was that it wasn't the most expensive way to go either. After the trip, he was a believer!
