Customer Review: Glorified Luggage Rack
Summary: 1 Stars

I am planning my first trip flying alone with my 18 month old. Typically when the husband flies along - he is the one in charge of toting the car seat, getting on the plane ahead of us and installing. We purchased the Go Go Travelmate as an alternative to me "backpacking" or carrying the car seat. When we received the travel mate in the mail we anxiously assembled it and tested it out. First, it claims "the car seat is extremely easy to mount" which we did not find true at all. The car seat has to be mounted with a strap and two knobs that screw into a strap. And while it claims the travel mate does not require being dismantled from the car seat to secure on the plane seat - I don't see how the car seat would fit into a plane seat with the travel mate attached. So, while I watched my perplexed husband assemble the travel mate - I had a vision of me trying to figure it out on the plane while our 18 month old daughter jumps up and down on the seat - throwing goldfish into the hair of the unsuspecting guest sitting in front of us - not to mention the line of angry travelers behind me!

The travel mate was originally designed for a Britax car seat but now claims it is compatible with a number of brands. We have an Evenflo Triumph and an Evenflo Tribute V - neither of those car seats attached secure enough for me to feel comfortable placing my child in. In the end, I found it to be a glorified luggage rack that is certainly not worth $100! I can use my luggage rack and a bungee cord and accomplish the same task.

Customer Review: Complete lifesaver!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have owned this product for over 2 years now and i adore it!

I fly to England from the States at least twice a year to visit my family. I have travelled alone with my 2 year old daughter on several occasions since she was a baby.

After reading a couple of the other reviews that spoke negatively about this product i really wanted to share my own experiences.
The car seat i own is a Britax Boulevard, so the thing is a beast to begin with, it does NOT fit through a security machine without the go go kidz attached, so wheels on or off makes no difference, they have never made me remove them as there is no point. They take the seat and scan it manually with hand held devices.

I have flown British Airways every flight and i have personally wheeled the seat down the aisle, not super easy but definitely possible and much easier than lugging the brute of a car seat around.

The only snag i have run into is that it is quite awkward to fit the plane seat belt through the back of the seat and go go kidz but usually an air steward will help me with that.

People ALWAYS ask me where i bought my go go kidz when i'm at the airport, Emily looks so comfy and content being wheeled around in her usual chair and then when i get to my destination all i have to do is set the car seat up in our next vehicle.

I LOVE THIS PRODUCT and i do not want to think about how difficult my vacations would have been without it, travelling with a young child is more than enough to worry about!

Customer Review: An excellent way to make air travel easier...
Summary: 5 Stars

Purchased this before a trip to hopefully make the trip a bit easier. The travelmate attached easily to our Britax Boulevard. I mounted the travelmate to the seat prior to leaving the house. The travelmate easily fit on the back of the car seat when installed in our Subaru Outback via the Latch system with the wheels removed.

Upon arriving at the airport I removed the Britax Boulevard from the vehicle and reinstalled the wheels (takes about 5 seconds). It did not fit through the x-ray machine at Portland International Jetport so the TSA rep did a hand scan of the seat.

To install the seat on the plane I removed the wheels and asked the flight attendant for a seatbelt extender. I had to route the seatbelt around the armrest to take up enough slack but the seat was snug.

I think flying with a car seat as big as the Britax Boulevard would be difficult solo. Having someone to hold the baby during the seat install is essential.

The seat fit through the x-ray w/ the wheels on during the return trip from Pittsburgh International Airport. Only one flight attendant gave me attitude about bringing the seat on the plane (eventhough we had purchased a seat for the baby). He demanded to see the airline approval sticker on the seat so i'd suggest that you highlight the decal on your seat that says that it's approved for flight just in case. This guy was being a real son of a ***** for no reason.

Overall we had a great trip w/ the GoGo Kidz Travelmate and highly recommend it.

I can't remember when I first saw one of these but I know I saw them somewhere before I had kids. So I put it in the back of my mind because I thought it was cool and figured that I would leave it at that. Well few years down the road (On Thanksgiving day in 2009) I ended up having a little girl. It just so happens that both of my sisters live with their significant others in Arizona. I wanted to make a trip out to see them because my one sister just had a little girl herself and I didn't meet her in person yet. So because my (at the time) 7 month old was so young, she flies for free for the first 2 years. So I bought tickets and she was coming with me. Then a week or so before I left I remembered seeing those little rolly cart things for the car seats. I did a Google search and found that Amazon.com had them. They are a little on the pricey side but I tell you, that is my only complaint about the product. It easily hooked up with the car seat I was using and stayed on the whole time (except when we actually had to put her in the car). It had to be the best money I had spent for the trip because I didn't have to check in a single thing! I backed everything in a wheely backback that was considered carry on bag and then the car seat got turned into a stroller so that got stowed under that plan and I just had to wait for them to bring them up. It was the best set up ever and I highly recomend getting one for your child if you are going to be making a lot of plane trips. It's great and worked out perfectly for me.

Customer Review: Overpriced, but definitely convenient
Summary: 4 Stars

Just used this product for the first time flying solo with my 13 month old on a 2 hour flight. When I first got the product, I noticed that it was manufactured in January 2010, which meant it's the new model with the strap holding the seat on - very important. Not the easiest product to put together and I would expect better quality from a $85 item, but it does the job. Definitely was convenient to have traveling through the airport with my Britax Marathon car seat. I didn't have enough hands to carry the car seat (which is difficult to carry by itself) and push a stroller, so I checked the stroller and just took this. Going through security, my car seat itself was too large to fit through the conveyor, so I left the Travelmate attached and they wanded it down - no problem. I strapped my son back in and off we went. Rolled the car seat right onto the plane and left it attached when I put the car seat into the seat. Then easily popped it off, stowed it under the seat in front of me and just as easily popped it back on before we deplaned. When traveling alone, this definitely made my life easier. I didn't have a stroller to break down and fit into a bag to gate check, then carry my car seat and toddler onto the plane. Just a backpack and my Travelmate. Plus, my little guy got a great view of everyone in the airport, which kept him happy and entertained. I will admit it's a bit costly, but I will definitely be using this product again and again, so the convenience factor is worth it to me.
