Baby Products Reviews of Foogo by Thermos Leak-Proof SS 7 oz Sippy Cup with Handle in BlueCustomer Review: Leaking Nightmare - Avoid! Summary: 1 StarsI wanted a safer sippy cup after reading all the bad news about plastics, so I researched fairly extensively and considered Klean Kanteen, Sigg, and the Foogo. I bought two of these, and was very excited to get them. They look great, but truly, they are useless. They leak from the spout AND around the top where the lid screws onto the base. I've actually never really had a problem with a sippy cup leaking before (I guess I've been fortunate), but this is CRAZY leaking. If my 15 month old leaves it on it's side, in a matter of minutes, there is a small puddle. I've never seen anything like it. I think it has to do with the fact that the lid has 2 separate pieces (in addition to the valves).
I called customer service and they are willing to send 2 new ones if I mail these in, but that seems pointless since I have 2 and neither work. Since I'm not optimistic that new ones will work, I don't want to take the time to write the required letter, package them up, and then lose even more money by paying to ship them.
Bad Product Design!
Customer Review: Cup leaked, returned it, second cup leaked - enough! Summary: 2 StarsThis cup LEAKS. The first one I tried leaked like crazy, so I returned it. The name of this item is "Leak-Proof Sippy Cup", so I figured that if mine leaked, it must be a mistake. Wrong. The second cup leaked just as badly.
It will not leak if you always keep it right side up, do not tilt it, do not bang it and do not slosh it. But if you turn the cup upside down, or even tilt it, it drips briskly from both the spout itself, and the little air hole opposite the spout. So if you give it to your child, it will leak milk everywhere (and isn't that why you buy an insulated cup, to put milk in?) Leaking water is not the end of the world, it'll dry eventually, but leaking milk is not goode.
It will also leak milk all over the inside of your diaper bag. If the spout or the little air hole comes into contact with cloth or anything absorbent, milk will wick right out of the cup, soaking your bag, your clean diapers, your stuffed animals or your extra set of kid clothes.
Otherwise, it's a terrific cup; safer than plastic, doesn't hurt your eyes design-wise, and keeps milk nice and cold. It is quite heavy. You do not want your kid throwing this at another kid, or even dropping it on their own foot. Ouch. But I can live with that, all sippy cups are heavy when they're full. I can't live with the leaking.
Why on earth can Gerber and everyone else in the business make a $2 sippy cup that doesn't leak no matter what you do to it, yet Thermos can't pull it off with this $15 item? It's very frustrating.
Customer Review: my daughter likes it Summary: 4 StarsUPDATE: So after using this cup for 3 weeks now, I have to admit that it leaks SOMETIMES! When first reassembled after washing, the cup does not leak ... even when vigorously shaken upside down! Once my daughter drinks out of it .... one of three scenarios has happened:
1) the cup still does not leak when vigorously shaken upside down
OR
2) the cup leaks a few drops before stopping even when shaken (I think this is liquid that is left in the spout after already passing through the valve)
OR
3) the cup leaks when shaken.
I have not quite figured out yet why it leaks sometimes and not other times. Anyway, my daughter still loves this sippy and I will keep using it since she is usually in the highchair when drinking.
As for assembling the cup ... it has become much easier, and it works best if I pull (and wiggle) the spout through the lid instead of pushing the spout through the lid from the inside.
ORIGINAL REVIEW:
I don't think this cup is as bad as other reviewers rated it. Yes, it does have some design issues (and maybe Thermos is "listening"), e.g it is really difficult to reassemble and you need to align the spout (purple) exactly into the lid (pink) or the sippy does not close right (I assume that's why other say it leaks). But if assembled correctly this sippy does not leak. Another plus is that it is made of durable stainless steel, therefore BPA-free and healthier than other plastic sippies. If this means that I have to put a little bit more effort into reassembling it, so be it. The only issue I have with this sippy is that i don't see how much my daughter is drinking, but that is expected of a stainless steel cup.
I also own the BornFree Training Cup (not the BornFree Drinking Cup!), but my 6 month old daughter prefers the Foogo. Personally I don't really like the spout of the BornFree Training Cup because there is not much difference between the spout and a bottle nipple ... they both have a y-cut (so what's the point of transitioning to a cup?) and the valve is not directly attached to the inside of the spout (guess that's why they need the leak-proof y-cut ... also why their Drinking Cup leaks).
Customer Review: Could be better Summary: 3 StarsI bought this for my fifteen-month-old. I love the design and the fact that it is insulated and more likely not full of harmful chemicals.
I didn't like how difficult it is to reassemble. The yellow spout is almost impossible to replace and therefore, it leaks.
I also bought the Kleen Kanteen and like that better because it is interchangeable with my Avent lids.
Customer Review: Great non-toxic sippy cup Summary: 5 StarsDoesn't leak like Born Frees, and the top is super easy. A little on the heavy side but our child loves it.
