Customer Review: Works as advertised, but strong odor.

I've had my Fitball Seating Disc for about two years, and while it does what it says, I wouldn't buy one again.
Pros: It provides a gentle workout for the back--though not as much as sitting on a balance ball does--and also reminds me to sit up straight.
Cons: (1) You have to blow it up by mouth, as no pump is provided (buying one from a third party is always an option), and no instructions are provided to tell you so. (I called the company.) Inflating it by mouth isn't necessarily a drawback for someone with no respiratory problems, but if you have asthma or other COPD, see Con #2.
(2) The chemical odor of the material is indeed as strong as many users have reported, and although it abates after a while, it never goes away.
I was reminded of this today when I decided to blow some air into it and found that the smell, though much less intense than two years ago, when I kept the window of my workroom open for weeks (even now I can smell the odor from a distance), had rubbed off on my face. I'm now considering discarding the disc. From an ergonomic point of view it's a useful product, but people with lung problems or those who worry about the chemicals in plastic may want to forgo it and learn to do pelvic floor tilts instead.
