Yes, it's lovely to hold and cradle an infant in your arms -- but even the most dedicated parents need to put the baby down and take a break! This is why we love the idea of a baby swing; we've seen how they provide a comfortable, safe place for an infant, with soothing, rocking motions to help maintain a very important sense of security and calm. If you're familiar with older models of baby swings -- with their creaky mechanical noises and uncomfortable seats -- you should know that the Zen Collection swing definitely takes baby swings to another level.
The swing's seat is designed for infants who cannot yet sit unassisted. Its basket shape provides security and support for the youngest babies, and it can be adjusted to sit the baby up or recline down. A plush seat cover, padded head support, and built-in cover keep baby comfortable. The swing seat can be positioned to move back and forth or from side to side, and it has a speed-control dial to allow for a variety of graduated speed settings. The swing is powered by battery or can be plugged in with the included adapter. It moves in a smooth, quiet motion with minimal mechanical noise. While baby is swinging, he can listen to one of 14 different soothing sounds with adjustable volume, including Muzak-esque remixes of classical favorites and unobtrusive nature sounds, like chirping birds and babbling brooks.
Knowing parents will especially appreciate that the baby seat is removable and portable. So once baby falls asleep in the swing, you don't have to disturb him by removing him from the seat. Just lift the seat out of the swing to carry him with you to different rooms in your home.

A baby swing is not small -- it's basically a piece of furniture. So we're delighted to find that the Zen Collection swing offers a contemporary and sophisticated palette that can complement your home's décor without making your house look like one big nursery. You won't find any frills or pastel colors here. Its contemporary pattern features sprays of leaves and dragonfly silhouettes in stylish tones of cream, chocolate brown, and moss green with ruby-red accents.
Its lovely textural touches include wood-finished handles, satin accents, and embroidered detailing on the cover, as well as on the mobile toys, which are cute and stylish. The toys include two plush dragonflies and a plush turtle, topped with matching umbrellas. It stands on a sturdy, dark brown, metal frame that's heavy enough to provide good support and security. Not only is this swing good looking, it also makes a great choice for unisex decorating.
Easy Assembly, Sturdy Construction
The swing took us less than half an hour to assemble and required only a Phillips screwdriver. One minor problem: we had to re-thread the mobile so it could hang properly. The assembled swing has a 26-by-33-inch footprint and stands 47 inches tall with the mobile attached, so it takes up quite a bit of room. This is something to consider if you have limited living space. However, the base folds together easily, so you can lean it against a wall when it's not in use.

Customer Review: So Frustrated With the Packing

We looked at getting this swing when my daughter was born, but held off. Now that #2 is on the way, we went ahead and decided that a swing - more specifically this swing - was worth the money. It arrived, I carefully unpacked the box to make sure all of the parts were there, and that's as far as I got. Almost every piece was scratched! I started taking pictures to document the damage, and ended up taking so many pictures that I stopped and just called Amazon to set up a replacement. No one else has mentioned their swing being scratched, so hopefully it's an isolated event. I really like the design of this swing and was excited about putting it together.
Putting the swing back into the box for the return was a nightmare. No wonder everything was scratched...couldn't Fisher-Price have sprung for a slightly larger box and a little styrofoam padding to protect one of the more expensive swings on the market? I spent 10 minutes trying to get it back in the box, gave up and turned it over to my husband who spent another 10 minutes (we both have engineering degrees, packing a box shouldn't be this hard!). Then we both tackled it together and finally got every piece back in. I feel like Fisher-Price owes us $20 just for the effort!
So at this point I have a baby pretty close to being here, no swing, and both my husband and I are super-frustrated at both the lack of thought that went into packing this product and the time wasted just trying to get it sent back. We're definitely not feeling any sort of soothing "Zen" vibes right now...
UPDATE:
We received the replacement swing (Amazon was great, they arranged for the damaged swing to be picked up by UPS from our home the next day, and sent the new swing via FedEx one-day shipping, all for free) and opened the box. We could already see scrapes on the pieces visible from the top of the box. My husband was ready to return the new swing immediately...he left it up to me, but he was already anticipating another return. I decided we should go ahead and try to unpack the box and see the extent of the scratches - my stance the entire time was that as long as we couldn't see the scratches once it was assembled, we'd keep the swing. He wasn't happy (he didn't want to re-pack another box) and said this was the last chance for the Zen swing. There are obviously major packing issues at Fisher-Price, and after receiving two scraped up swings, he told me we wouldn't be trying this swing again. Either we were keeping this one or the next swing to arrive at our house would NOT be a Fisher-Price.
We took it out of the box, EVERY piece was scraped up - there were even MORE scratches on this one! But...the scrapes were smaller than the scrapes on the first swing, and most would be behind/under the swing once it was assembled. I had to make a choice, it was either deal with a few scratches that would be visible or have to deal with getting one of those "other" baby swings on the market. I really wanted this one (I haven't seen another swing out there that looks this great and has these features), so I lowered my standards and decided we'd keep it. This still irks me, b/c for $143 (or any amount of money I pay for a product) I shouldn't have to compromise at all. (See the bottom of this review for my feelings about Fisher-Price based on this experience)
Once the swing was together we were pretty pleased (other than the two or three scratches we could see). Here's what we liked:
1. The music - we both found it soothing and it did give us the "Zen" feeling we had been missing b/c of the scratches ;) Each song was very calming and quite pretty. Other reviewers have complained that the sound is too low - but it's perfect. When cranked all the way up it's just loud enough for the baby, and provides a nice, barely noticeable, background music for us. You don't have to talk over it, and you can still hear what's going on in the rest of your house with your other children.
2. It's gorgeous - we're having a boy this time and I had been worried about the bow and "pink" looking accents from the pictures online. The "pink" is actually a deep purplish-maroon color, which isn't that girly. And the bow is only one one side of the blanket, so we are going to engage "boy mode" - which means we'll put the non-bow side on top of the bow, so it won't be girly at all :)
3. The plug-in option. Do I even need to go into how nice it is to not have to think about batteries?
4. The lift-off seat. First, it's REALLY simple to lift off/put back on. I practiced carrying it into our bedroom/bathroom and had plenty of room to make it through the door.
5. The seat rotates 360 degrees, so the baby can swing front-to-back facing either the left or the right.
Here's my view on Fisher-Price based on this expericene:
Companies should take pride in their products and make sure that they arrive in perfect condition (which starts with packing them correctly such that the product pieces don't damage each other in the box!). Fisher-Price put so much thought into the design of this swing, only to pack it in a box that's too small with no protection for the parts. I will never recommend a Fisher-Price product to a friend (or a stranger) without mentioning this incident. Fisher-Price obviously doesn't care about the condition their product arrives in, they just want your money. I give this swing five stars for design and functionality, but two stars for the way it's packed/the condition it arrives in.
