Baby Products Reviews of Fisher-Price Sounds 'n Lights MonitorCustomer Review: Spend the money and get something better!!!! Summary: 1 Stars
Ok, our monitor just died last night so I was on the search for a new one. My son is 2 so I only need a monitor for a few more months before he no longer needs it so I wasn't looking to spend a fortune. I did some research on the Sony and it looked good but was a little expensive so I put it back on the shelf and picked this one instead, the Fisher Price Sounds 'n Lights. As soon as we got home, I hooked it up in my son's room and put him down for a nap. I plugged in the receiver downstairs(no rechargable by the way) and was shocked when I turned it on and heard nothing! I moved into the kitchen and finally got a sound...STATIC!!! It was on a low setting and the amount of static was unbelievable! After trying to adjust the settings both downstairs and in my son's room, I have decided that I will be returning this to the store tonight and will buy the Sony that I should have bought in the first place!
Customer Review: You get what you pay for... Summary: 3 Stars
We received this at the baby shower and it's been working OK for the past six months. Didn't realize how inexpensive it was until I started shopping around for a replacement. Here are my thoughts...
Pro:
~ decent range, even out into the yard
~ not too much static, even with cordless phones and wifi
~ like the nightlight feature on the base
Con:
~ I hate that the off button is on the same wheel as the volume control. When you turn it on before going to bed, you don't know what the volume is set at and if too loud, the first murmur wakes you. This is the reason we're looking for a replacement.
~ the lights on the receiver are pretty friggin' bright, could keep you awake if you're a light sleeper.
~ build quality is pretty cheap, haven't dropped one yet, but wouldn't want to.
Customer Review: Works great in the country. Summary: 4 Stars
First off- I live way out in the country, so I don't have the problems that the other users have with picking up noises from the outdoors. Perhaps that is the main reason others have had issues. For me the sound is crisp, clear, and there is little to no static. It seems to pick up only close range noises. We have it sitting next to the crib and have never had a problem with it. At night, if I'm feeling nervous, I'm able to turn up the sound loud enough to hear my baby breathing (and it's so clear that it doesn't wake my husband).
They could have made it sturdier. I don't have issues with it's functionality but in a busy household if it did fall off a table we'd likely have to buy a new one.
Customer Review: Great Baby Monitor Summary: 5 Stars
We bought this in 2009 for our first child and it does everything that is needed from a baby monitor. It does get staticy sometimes but not enough to prevent you from hearing your baby's squeaks, talking, or crying. We've slept many nights with the monitor on. We've also setup the monitor up to 30-40 yrds away from where our baby was sleeping in a basement bedroom (while on vacation) and had no trouble hearing what was going on. If you get too far away it'll start to get staticy. This is by no means a top-of-the-line monitor but you don't need more for the $.
I decided to write this reveiw because I'm looking to buy another one.
Customer Review: love it! Summary: 4 Stars
This monitor has been wonderful for us! As long as you take the time to read and follow the set-up instructions, do the testing, and find the proper channel for your location it works like a dream. I can take it all over my very large yard and never anything but perfectly clear reception. I would highly recommend it to anyone. Especially if you have lots of computer and electronic devices as we do. Never any interference! Only drawback is the battery life. it runs them down quickly, but worth living with that for the overall great performance. Been using it for a year and a half and would absolutely buy again
