Baby Products Reviews of Fisher-Price Soothing Motions Glider - Butter BunnyCustomer Review: Finally something my newborn will sleep in!! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this for my 4 week old baby and he loves it!! He wouldn't sleep in anything but the aquarium take along swing, which is also great when you visit other homes, and my arms. He would sleep in the swing for naps during the day but wanted to sleep in my arms at night, which makes it hard for me to sleep. This glider is now his bed at night and during the day. It is great and very comfortable for him. The rocking motion keeps him sleeping for long periods of time. The glider almost looks like a car seat and it has high sides so the baby won't fall out. So if your baby sleeps in his car seat, he should sleep in this too. I took the toy bar off for now and my baby doesn't like music when he is trying to sleep so I have no issues with that. The motor is a little loud (about the same as a humidifier) and the thing is a little big and heavy BUT who cares if the baby is finally sleeping and I'm not having to hold him!! Couldn't live without this right now. He is 6 weeks now and still loves it. Also, it is tilted up a bit like a car seat is, so if your baby is sick you'll have a bed already propped up a little so he can breathe better.
Customer Review: Super Seat Choice, VERY HAPPY! Summary: 5 Stars
I feel that for my 4th child I have a better idea about what I really need. I felt after borrowing a seat for my last 2 children that I needed to buy my own (what I had purchased previously had either broken or the baby didn't like it).
I read a lot of reviews and decided to go with this glider. I am so happy that it turned out to be a good choice. The way it is shaped is nice and cozy feeling to the baby... the next best thing to being held. It really does soothe him. The batteries last a long time... we have used this a ton in the last three weeks and have not had to change batteries.
The music variety makes it so it is not annoying.
It also is a very safe with a base that stays put and straps that adjust to fit the baby. It also sits at just the right angle so that an infant is sitting enough to be able to look around a little, but not far forward enough to fall forward (like the swings I have tried... which is so annoying and unsafe!).
I think it also has good resale value through avenues like Craigslist and local classifieds.
Thanks Fisher Price!
Customer Review: The sleep solution for infants with reflux! Summary: 5 Stars
Much like the other reviewers, our son was only able to sleep in his car seat or swing (due to reflux) and for no more than a two to three hour stretch at night. I saw this glider in an insert in Baby Magazine and hoped it was the answer to our prayers. It was! The first night we tried it out our son (eight weeks old) slept for six and a half hours!
Nearly two months later he is still sleeping in it for eight to nine hours a night! We have a "mini co-sleeper" attached to our bed and the glider fits in it perfectly. If he starts to stir or is startled by something, I just reach over and turn the glider on and he falls back to sleep!
Since we bought this glider, we have gone out of town twice and did not even consider leaving it at home. Yes, it is big and not the easiest thing to travel with but the sleep we get each night is well worth the trouble. He will be four months old tomorrow and I am dreading the day that he outgrows it. Hopefully by then he will have also outgrown his reflux.
The Soothing Motions Glider is wonderful and we credit it for the return of our sanity!
Customer Review: Wanted to love it, only liked it. Summary: 3 Stars
We really wanted to LOVE this glider, but ended up only liking it. Why? It eats batteries like they're going out of style. And at 4 D batteries a pop, it gets expensive.
That said, the baby did like it...especially when he was tiny and wouldn't yet nap in his crib or pack-and-play. This glider would put him to sleep almost instantly. But even at only 8 or 9 pounds, it sounded like the motor was straining...and the fast speed was a joke.
A new set of batteries lasted a day for us, at which point the thing would move if you bumped it, or it would move even slower than the hare setting, then start and stop in fits and spurts. New batteries would jazz it up again for awhile...but not nearly long enough.
This would get a definite 4 stars if it was simply able to be plugged in and/or 5 stars if they added a vibration mode and a true fast speed.
If you're going to try this, I recommend Craiglist. We spent about $50 on it and got most of our money back out of it when we resold it.
Customer Review: Comfy Cozy little thing Summary: 4 Stars
I purchased this when I was taking my 3 month old to San Fran and needed a "crib" for her. At the time, she liked being put to sleep with motion so this seemed ideal. I had it sent directly to SF. Although it's a bit loud, it does do the trick. It's spacious and has a solid base. Everyone kept commenting on how they wished their own beds could look as comfy. I didn't use the toy bar much (she was too young, really) but it was a great purchase. Even though I was only in San Fran for 10 days, it was well worth the money I spent to be able to put my daughter down and not worry. She's now 6 months, on the tall side and a bit of a jumper so I can't say she'd be able to keep using it today; however, I imagine you could for a baby up until about 9 months if needed. Since it's still in SF I can't really put it to the test. At any rate, I liked this item. It was useful, comfy and did what it was supposed to do: put my daughter to sleep. I'd put it right up there with the Fisher Price Papasan swing my son used to sleep in...
