Baby Products Reviews of Fisher-Price Soothing Motions Glider - Butter BunnyCustomer Review: Comparison to Nature's Touch Papasan Swing Summary: 3 Stars
With our first child, we bought two Nature's Touch Papasan Cradle swings, one for upstairs and the other for down. This time around, I opted to save on space and decided to purchase the soothing motions glider based on the reviews found here. I have found the following:
PROS:
1) Definitely is better on space compared to the papasan swing (or at least appears that way as it sits so low to the ground)
2) Same forward and side to side motion as the papasan swing, which is great depending on which motion baby prefers
3) 360 degree rotation allows you to position baby in any direction you move around the room
CONS:
1) The fabric is a real eye-sore and I have seriously considered re-upholstering it myself (baby bunnies against the backdrop of yellow fabric versus neutral colors of the Papasan or Lamb Papasan).
2) Only two speeds available for rocking motion. The papasan swing has several more which is great because as baby gets heavier, you can increase the speed of the swing to suite the weight.
3) I am not thrilled with the music and therefore leave it off (nursery rhymes versus nature sounds on the Nature's Touch)
4) The motor is definitely louder than the Papasan
All in all, I've been willing to balance out the cons with the pros because of the space factor. In terms of the aesthetics, I have placed my own lightweight blanket over the swing.
Customer Review: Soothing for the parents too... Summary: 5 Stars
My son is almost five months old, and by far, this is the best $60 we've spent. At first I was hesitant to pay the money for an untried product (nobody we knew had one), but we finally purchased this when he was about two months old, and as soon as we got it, we wished we had bought it earlier. I can honestly say that hands down, he sleeps more soundly and deeply in this seat than in anything else - crib, carseat or swing. Nothing gives my husband and me a better night's sleep either! Our son fell asleep last night at 10:30 and slept straight through until 6:30 this morning. He ate breakfast for about half an hour, and is now back asleep in it for his morning nap.
I've read some of the other reviews, and the biggest complaints seem to be about the noise level and portability. Honestly, after the first day or so, we barely noticed the sound at all. The repetitive sliding noise quickly fades into the background and you forget it's even on. And, yes, it is a bit bulky, but it's not like it's bolted to the floor. We can easily move it around if necessary, and I feel comfortable leaving him in it because the base *is* so sturdy and stable.
We too have only changed the batteries once since we purchased the glider, and you can take the cloth off the frame to wash it pretty easily. All in all, for us it was a great investment, and worth every penny.
Customer Review: Has some bugs but overall a good product. Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this because I have remembered that in the past my first two babies liked being rocked to sleep and when I would get them to sleep as soon as I would lay them in bed they would immediately wake up and start screaming! So I got this hoping that the rocking motion would keep the baby asleep when I put them in there. And sure enough it worked like a charm. The biggest issue I had was that it did not come with an AC adapter option. You have to use batteries. Do not use regular batteries; it eats them! Get a charger and rechargable batteries. I suggest two sets. One set to use and the others to have when they run out of juice and thus the others are charging while you are running the others down.
Anyways I used it for my baby until she was about 6 months old. At which point she could climb out of it and it became unsafe. By this time I was able to switch her to sleep in a bed with no problem. The speeds were fine for my uses. I used it not to put them to sleep but instead to keep them that way after I'd rocked them to sleep. If it wasn't for the battery issues I would give it 5 stars. I will say this...it was a life saver! In the past I would spend an hour getting my previous two children to bed at night. But with this it was soooo much easier.
Customer Review: The Glider, A MUST HAVE!!! Summary: 5 Stars
A friend of my mother, whom I had never met, sent this to me. She told me in her card that this item had saved her many times when she couldn't get her Grandaughter to sleep and that it was a life saver. I didn't think much of it when I recieved it and frankly, I thought that it was just a fancier swing-type chair but have since learned that this is so much more than that!
When I brought my son home from the hospital, we learned that he had colic. Nothing would get my son to stop crying at times and being a new parent this was heart breaking. Two weeks after he was born and in a desperate panic to stop his crying, my husband put this together (not hard at all) and my son responded to it immediately. It calmed him down and then put him to sleep(never played the music on the unit because he didn't like it.) My son spent the majority of his days (and nights) in this glider, until he was about 4 1/2 months old. We would literally let him sleep in this overnight and we would get anywhere from 5-8 hours of sleep. This was truely the BEST gift I had recieved and had decided that whenever I know someone having a baby, I'm going to "pay it forward" sort-to-speak and give the glider!! It's worth every penny!
Customer Review: Better than expected. Summary: 5 Stars
Ok so I purchased this when my son was 4 months old. I always thought it was pretty neat, but figured he wouldn't sleep in it, because it seems to glide too slow. My son wouldn't sleep in anything, but his swing. I wanted to get him something bigger that may slightly imitate the swing that I know he'll sleep in. So based on reviews I got this product. At first I was a little disappointed, because at night as soon as I laid him in it he would start too fuss like he did everything else, except his swing. I just figured maybe I should have bought it a couple of months ago. But, what I did was put one of his big blankets in it and laid him on top of it and whadduya know? He sleeps in it more than his swing now! I guess it wasn't as cushiony as he wanted it to be. I kind of noticed that too, when I got it that it appeared not to be as cushiony. Another disappointing thing is that the music volume is a little loud even on the lowest setting, so I don't even use it. Aside from that it's great. The motor noise doesn't seem to bother me or my son. It isn't very loud to me. But anyway he sleeps in it, which allows me to get more me time and sleep time at night. I would say my money is well spent.
