Baby Products Reviews of Fisher-Price Soothing Motions Glider - Butter BunnyCustomer Review: Go for a baby swing instead of this glider Summary: 2 Stars
We bought this for our 1 week old baby. Here are our findings:
1. Babies cry - thats the only thing they do. If a baby has to cry, she will cry even if u put her in this glider. If u want to buy this glider to calm ur baby, then its an absolute NO. If ur baby is crying, do pick her up and she will stop instantaenously. Putting a crying baby in this glider does not work at all.
2. Too slow to put a baby to sleep - If u want ur baby to go to sleep in this glider - then let me tell u - the trick is not going to work. This glider is too slow to put a baby to sleep on her own. You want something faster to put a baby to sleep. Best of all I would recommend, hold your baby, put her to sleep and then put her in this glider.
3. In our 1 month usage, we figured out that this glider does help extend the sleep time of ur baby by about 30 minutes - if she is in her sound sleep - not when she is dreaming (babies tend to do this more). May be it will help older babies sleep for longer duration but that is it.
Advantages:
Sound is not too much. At least it doesnt disturb a sleeping baby.
Looks really good.
We never felt our daughter ever liked this because she was in it only when she was sleeping. When she is awake, she doesnt want to be in inside it.
We finally ended up buying a swing from Fisher price. In the swing, the baby does go to sleep. Best of all, even if she wakes up, she will go back to sleep on her own. The noise is much lower than the glider. Its fast and does serve the purpose.
I would recommend a baby swing over this glider.
Thanks.
Customer Review: fantastic product Summary: 5 Stars
Being the second-time around parents we are, we knew it would not be wise to put the baby in a crib right away since she would sleep better all cozied up in a much smaller space. We didn't want her in the bed with us for obvious safety reasons - sorry all you co-sleepers - but we did want her right next to our bed. This glider is perfect. It allows the baby to lay in it and the weight of the baby makes it go down a little in the center to surround the baby in a comfy, cozy, suspended way. We swaddle her and put her in it and she sleeps for 4-5 hours once it is night-time. It could be that we are really blessed this time around with an "easy" baby, but I think this little "bed" - or that's what we call it - helps her sleep better. It doesn't weigh much at all - maybe less than ten pounds - and it was put together in less than ten minutes. It is a neutral, unisex yellow and sage with cute little bunny characters on it, so it is great for boys and girls alike. It has a button feature that will allow you to make the glider sway from side to side (turn the glider perpendicular to the base) or top to bottom. Basically, it can sway/glide from "North to South" and "East to West". She doesn't seem to care if it glides or not, but as she gets older (only 3 wks old) I'm sure she'll find it fun and will just like to sit in it and hang out. We don't even have her crib put together yet because this is the perfect place to put her when she naps and when she is out for the first part of her nights. We highly recommend!
Customer Review: Slightly less than expected, but serves the purpose Summary: 4 Stars
My wife and I were deciding between a Fisher Price two-way swing or this two-way glider as our "tool" to help put our newborn to sleep when she's less than cooperative. In the end, we decided on this "glider" because of the ability to pick it up and move it around. Here are my thoughts: (1) at first, I thought it was more like a solid infant car seat with a motor attached beneath. It is not. It's just a hammock draped over a tubular metal frame--quite flimsy. But it gets the job done. (2) The arch from which the toys dangle is NOT a handle that you can use to move it; it's just a non-weight-bearing tube from which the toys dangle. To move it, you grab two handles at the ends of the seat. (3) The motor is much quieter than what I expected after reading some of the reviews here. Maybe in a very quiet room, the motor noise may be noticeable. But the "noise" is never annoying or intrusive, and it doesn't disturb baby. (4) The faster of the two movement speeds is probably about right; any much faster and baby's head would get jolted back and forth. The slow setting is very slow. (5) The seat is rotatable 360 degrees, so the back-and-forth movement is not just limited to 2 positions. (6) The music tends to be on slightly louder side even on the softer setting, but it's not a big deal. (7) As with all such seats, baby's back is slightly arched, and I'm not sure it's healthy for baby to sleep long term day in and day out in this posture. But for calming baby to put her to sleep, it's fine.
Customer Review: BEST BABY GEAR EVER BOUGHT!! Summary: 5 Stars
It is more pricier than other bouncers, but it was the best investment we ever made!! Our son used this glider practically from the moment he was born until 6mths 3weeks old! I bought it because it was like a cradle and looked more secure and soothing for a newborn. The other bouncers didn't seem to have the support I thought a newborn needed and the vibrating/bouncing feature seemed to be fit for more older infants. The gliding motion was another reason I bought it and since I never got a glider for myself to sit with him in, this was the next best thing. While the music and gliding motion are a plus, just being in the glider seemed to keep him satisfied. As he got older/longer, his feet would hit the bottom, but we just put a pillow under his feet and it was okay. He finally outgrew it because it is reclined too far back for a 6mth old who at that age wants to sit up and be independent. We dismantled it today and I plan to sell it. We are so sad!! It's easy to clean and the batteries lasted long for us. One negative thing is it is HEAVY and more bulkier than other bouncers, but it needs to be for what it does and we probably never moved it from our living room, so it was okay. There are handles to move it from room to room, but when you lift it up, the base swings around and it makes it a little annoying to walk with. That's nothing though compared to all the good stuff and I would definitely recommend this to any parent. Worth every penny!!
Customer Review: Thank you, glider! Summary: 5 Stars
Received this item as a shower gift and thought it was a bit ridiculous for the price (it was purchased by a childless relative). I thought "what can this thing possibly do for $70 that a $40 bouncy seat can't?"
Well, for one- put my child to sleep! I don't have an exceptionally fussy baby or anything, but this thing WORKS for putting her to sleep when she is in that state where she's just kind of drowsy and not wanting to be put down. Some days/nights I would never be able to sleep or get anything done without this thing, honestly.
I have three children and I was always a fan of bouncy seats...so were my kids. My two month old (third child) will NOT tolerate her bouncer for more than 10-15 minutes, whereas she will actually sleep through the night in the glider. The noise is not bothersome at all to me (or the baby). It seems to go pretty easy on batteries- I have the same D batteries in it since I put it together and I'm sure it's been on for at least 5 or 6 hours total (probably more!). It's easy to carry from room to room, super SUPER comfy for tiny ones and just an absolute blessing to me and my sleep-deprived husband.
Baby's happy. Daddy's happy. Mama's happy!
I was totally wrong about this product- in my mind, it's a fantastic thing and well worth every penny that my childless relative paid for it (I guess it doesn't always pay to have experience!).
Thank you fisher price!
