I bought this on a sudden whim when we were on vacation. We were driving around in the car a lot, something our baby (four months) REALLY doesn't like) and listening to him cry was beginning to wear me down. He loves it when I sing "Hush little baby" (you know, the mockingbird song) and when I saw that this soother played that tune, into my shopping basket it went. The straps at the back were easy to fasten around the seat headrest so he had something to look at from his car seat, and the minute I turned it on, he settled down and was really happy to watch it. NO CRYING!! :o) Now that we're home, I've found that it was really easy to hook onto his crib because of the straps. (The crib bars are really close together, meaning that I haven't been able to find a mobile yet that will attach without the help of yards of duct tape.) It's been nice to be able to put him in the crib sometimes and have him fall asleep watching his toy. :o)
I agree with another reviewer that the light is a bit bright, but it doesn't seem to keep him awake, so that's okay. Two different settings or a dimmer light would have been nice, though. I also wonder if I have a different version that everyone else, because I haven't found a button to switch between classical music and lullabies. It all sounds like the same pan-pipe version of classical lullabies to me. It's not my favorite music, but he likes it - ergo, mommy is a fan. :o)

My son has had this since he was 1 month old (he is now 15 months) and still absolutely loves this Rainforest Waterfall Soother -- it is fastened to the side of his crib. It is the one item I tell expectant mothers to definately purchase -- I have also bought two more that I have given as baby gifts. My son would watch this from his crib and coo and smile when he was young, and would fall asleep to it. Now at 15 months we still have it in his crib and he will turn it on and off on his own when he wakes up in the morning. I still turn it on every night once I lay him down. The music is so nice and the songs play to the beat of chirping crickets and water sounds. I would highly recommend this either for your child or for a gift. It is so worth the cost and a good night's sleep as I feel that it was wonderful in helping soothe my son to sleep. The little rainforest animals that swing and sway are also so cute, and the little fish blows bubbles. The lights and colors and also extremely eye-catching to babies......again, I can't say enough about this product. Another great product that he had was the Rainforest mobile -- not only does it turn, but the rainforest leaves go up and down which is so neat....we had to take the mobile down after my son started standing, though, since he would try to grab onto it, so we have been able to use the Waterfall soother much longer. This was a product that we were dying to have. I bought it hen first pregnant and used it for a friend's child when I babysat (frequently) and then it has been in my daughter's crib now since birth. She is almost 3 months. She didn't show much interest in it until about 2 months, as she had a hard time turning her head to see it because it was on her side. Now she just loves it, and smiles and coos at it all the time. I do agree that the light is bright. It would be nice if there were two light settings. She loves to watch it in the dark, but I don't play it with the intention to put her to sleep (which is what I thought I would be using it for) It's way to bright and wakes her up instantly. But I do love the different volume settings, other Fisher Price Rainforest products could learn from a lower volume setting.
We just changed the batteries for the first time and it has been in use for more than 3 months.

UPDATE: My daughter is now 15 months old and still has this in her crib. She plays it every night as part of her bedtime routine and only cries when going to bed if it isn't on. It alleviates those first few moments of stress being alone in a dark room. By the time it's done playing, she's asleep. I have only changed the batteries Twice in 15+ months of use, and we use it every day.

I received this as a shower gift and from the first night my daughter spent in her crib until this very day, nearly two years later, she has fallen asleep and woken up to the soothing lights, sounds and motion of the rainforest soother. I honestly cannot say enough good things about it. Let me address the battery situation for those of you put off by some reviewers. Unless you have this running all night long, this should last many months without needing a battery change. With daily use I have changed the batteries a grand total of 4 times in 2 years - and that is with all features running for at least an hour a day - often more. Pretty good in my opinion. The music is lovely and does not have that "canned" sound so prevalent in most toys. I am still amazed at how many songs it plays. I often enter her room to hear something new. It all depends on which settings she's decided to fiddle with that day. The sounds are peaceful and unless you have this shining directly in the kid's face I do not agree that the light is too bright. I have gotten alot more sleep than most Moms because my daughter will wake up, turn this on, and play happily in her crib for upwards of an hour. I usually wake up to the sounds of the rainforest soother over the monitor before she even makes a peep. This product is a godsend.Customer Review: Wonderful for Car Trips!

I was given this as a baby shower gift, and originally had it in the crib. My 10 week old son loved it. However, we live 8 hours away from any family, so long car trips are a given. We decided to visit them when he was 8 weeks old, and I decided to attach the Waterfall Soother to the headrest so that he would have something to look at when traveling.
This was a great idea...he was a great traveler, but when he started to get fussy or agitated, I'd start the soother and he'd be distracted for a bit. I'm now looking to purchase a second one for the crib, since this one will most likely stay in the car.
My only suggestions for improvement would be to create a longer setting with lights, music and sound. Right now, it's only 6 minutes long with all three, and I'd have enjoyed having it the full 18 minutes. Also, I would LOVE to have a remote control for it! The FP Ocean Wonders Aquarium has one, and I wish this one had it, too. Would have been very handy for the car, so that one of us wasn't constantly reaching back to reset it.
I have read other reviews that the light is too bright, but I found it to be rather muted. Overall, I'm very happy with this product and would highly recommend it!
