Baby Products Reviews of Fisher-Price Rainforest Waterfall Peek-a-Boo Soother

Customer Review: Entertaining Yet Calming
Summary: 4 Stars

I recently purchased this crib soother for my nine month-old son - mainly because I thought it was adorable - but he started laughing when we tried it in the store. The friendly monkey and red tree frog sway in the rainforest tree tops while the fish bobs up and down in the pool "filled" by the shimmering waterfall (only the pool has actual water). The soother also offers a variety of music selections which includes combinations of rainforest melodies (sounds like wooden flutes), lullabies, and/or nature sounds (crickets, frogs, birds). Three switches on the top of the soother allow the user to select music type, volume, and light/motion combinations. I have only had this product for a week, so I am unsure how quickly it uses batteries.

Although this soother has only an on/off bird that the child can activate and therefore isn't as interactive as the Fisher Price Aquarium Soother, it is still calming and captivating. I was concerned that it wouldn't fit my thick-railed convertible crib since I had trouble with the Aquarium Soother, but this one has longer straps and barely fit on the side rails.

My only suggestion would be to have a volume selection wheel instead of a switch; the switch has only three settings in addition to off, and sometimes the quietest is too quiet but the next setting is too loud.

Overall, I am very pleased with this purchase and am confident that my son (and I) will continue to enjoy this product for quite a while. I only wish the Rainforest line of Fisher Price products was out before my son was born!

Customer Review: Perfect for soothing baby to sleep!
Summary: 5 Stars

I love this product. I wish it was still in production because it is WONDERFUL. The music is soothing to a baby, it sounds beautiful, it looks nice (and I don't find it to be *too* bright like others have said)... I just love it, and prefer it to the FP Precious Planet one that seems to be everywhere these days. I highly recommend this model if you are looking for something to lull baby to sleep!!

I have owned this product since 2007. I bought it when I had my 2nd son, and he was soothed to sleep with it. I LOVED it. He had it in his crib until he was about 2 years old, and then we put it away in storage (in the closet, on a shelf, lying down). When I went to set it up for my daughter (born in late 2010) I noticed the water was gone. It had leaked out over the course of 2 years (never had a problem when it was set up in the crib though). I called FP, who said it was non-toxic (saline?) and I could still use it. I didn't feel comfortable doing that. FP said they are no longer producing this model, and since it is not broken (everything still worked, it just had no water) they couldn't replace it. But they did offer to send me a $10 coupon off my next FP purchase. So I went and purchased the Precious Planet version instead. Long story short - I did NOT like that one, and it didn't compare to the waterfall soother!!! Finally one day I saw it at Walmart (only one on the shelf!) I bought it up and my baby girl LOVES it, just like my son did!! I hope FP starts producing this line of soother again - it is wonderful!

Customer Review: My experience...
Summary: 3 Stars

Let me start by saying that my experience with this item is different from many of the reviews I have read. I did not purchase this soother until my daughter was 4 or 5 months old and began having trouble getting to sleep. Before that, she just fell asleep on her own. We've always used a white noise machine playing a thunderstorm sound in her room, but when she started having problems getting herself to sleep, I decided to try something else. This product had great reviews so I bought one.

It did not fit onto the front or back of our crib, it only fits on the side, so the angle is awkward. I figured we'd give it a try anyway. She would lay and watch it when we turned it on, but when we left the room, she ignored it completely and started crying immediately. I love the music that it plays but it wasn't long until the animals started to make creaking noises when they moved. We continued to try it for a while but she never got interested in it.

She is now 9 months old and sleeping great of her own accord and a little bit of crying it out, and I can hear her kicking or banging the soother when I put her down for naps or when she wakes up. I tried to turn it on just today to see if she'd like to watch it and it appears the batteries have died after 4-5 months of infrequent use.

I'll keep it for the next kid, but I feel like this product would be better for tiny babies if used from day 1. I wish I'd either done that or not purchased it because it was not very reasonable.

Customer Review: Love this mobile!
Summary: 4 Stars

I absolutely love this mobile. We purchased this one after already buying the Rainforest Peek-A-Boo Waterfall Soother. I still wanted a mobile and the remote control was a bonus! Our daughter loved this when it was on her crib and still does on her crib-side table!
Pros:
Soothing lights! The projection on the ceiling is awesome. If that is too stimulating, however, you can turn that off and just have the underside light. Or even no lights at all.
Remote control! No waking the baby to go in and turn off the mobile.
Song selection! Different lullabies. Changes with each push of the button.
Mobility! When your baby sitting up, you can take the mobile off the crib and adjust it so it sits on a table outside of the crib. Amazon has the picture sideways, so it is harder to visualize. Other mobiles have exhausted their use by this point, because they are only a crib attachment.

Cons:
Batteries die fast. All new parents should invest in rechargeable batteries. We were using this mobile at nap times and bed time (and the few months she was night-waking) and I was recharging batteries every couple of days. Now that she is older (10 months) she can turn her Waterfall Soother on herself and she does! We use this mobile sparingly and the batteries last on average 3 weeks. Expensive if you are buying batteries, but not if you are recharging.

Very soothing mobile with tons of adjustments to fit your needs from newborn and beyond!!

Customer Review: Way too bright, otherwise is great
Summary: 3 Stars

I originally had the ocean wonders aquarium, and needed a second one for my second son. I gave this one a try because I liked the jungle theme. I do like the music options, the volume options, and the motion the monkeys make. My son seems to really like it and we've actually taken it travelling with us for a sense of home for him. Works like a charm. He's 9 months old and is starting to turn it on/off by himself now.

But I'm not in love with it. Here's why:
1. The straps are SO hard to deal with. Every battery change involves lots of deep breaths for mom, especially because I don't realize they're low until bedtime and the boy is screaming.
2. When using the lights - the waterfall LED is WAY WAY WAY too bright. In the middle of the night, if you turn it on in a pitch dark room, you and your child literally have to cover your eyes, look away, or squint. The lights on the fish portion are great, but are overpowered by the waterfall. (the original ocean wonders lights were incredibly peaceful).
3. The button for the child to activate it is too small in my opinion and too high for them to reach.
4. The batteries drain pretty fast if you have it set to have all functions going. We usually just use music and bubbles for that reason, which still works fine to soothe him.
5. Bubbles are kind of lame, only a few here and there.

All in all, its fun, but I wouldn't buy it again just because its too too bright for nighttime use.
