Baby Products Reviews of Fisher-Price Rainforest Peek-A-Boo Waterfall SootherCustomer Review: Very soothing! Summary: 5 StarsWe got this as a gift at the baby shower and I couldn't wait to use it. I had to wait a month while the baby was in the NICU, but when he finally came home and slept in his basinett, I tried it out and totally fell in love with it.
My little guy loves it and it seems to calm him down and get him settled into a sleep time routine. Now, we just turn it on when we place him in bed and he usually doesn't fuss to go to sleep.
I have mine set on 18 min w/ rainforest sounds and lullabies at the lowest volume setting. I've tried the light and the creatures moving, but he's not really interested in all that right now.
I don't know what we'd do without it :) :) :)
Customer Review: Bedtime lifesaver Summary: 5 StarsMy son started using this when he was about 2 months old and still uses it at both nap and bedtimes and he is now over 5 months old. I shudder to think of how we might have gotten along without it! The soother always grabs his attention and lulls him into sleeps. Both the music and the lights are fantastic. Occasionally I will press the button for a second round if he is really fighting his sleep but usually one hit does the trick. Before he was sleeping through the night when he would wake up in the early hours of the morning one round of the soother and replacing his pacifier always put him out again. Other reviewers have said that the light is too bright but my son often likes to look around at his crib etc. before he falls asleep so the light is just perfect because if it is too dark in the room he often cries longer. Overall I'd say that this item is a must have for any baby!
Customer Review: Fun toy for babies Summary: 4 StarsOur 6 month old loves this toy. As he is still co-sleeping with us, we haven't tried it in his crib to help him sleep yet. But he is fascinated by the moving animals and the soft music.
Customer Review: Newborn Approved! Summary: 5 StarsI purchased this as a suggestion from my mother-in-law. At first I was skeptical because I'm not usually a big fan of battery-operated/electronic baby items but this one is a gem! I have a 5-day old baby and he really seems to respond to it. Although he is not yet sleeping in his crib we give him a little "rainforest" time each day in it. He instantly calms down when the rainforest sounds come on. We haven't tried the music or lullabies on him yet but they sound a lot better than I thought they would and am excited to see how he likes them.
I also like the auto shut-off feature which will save battery life. BTW-it comes with batteries which I thought was a bonus. So far this product really is a "soother" as it claims. I would recommend this to other parents.
Customer Review: Cute crib soother with many options Summary: 4 StarsMy son had issues falling asleep since 10 weeks and continues to rely on a crib soother or mobile at 8 months old. Compared the the FP Aquarium ones, I think this one is much more interesting and creative. I love the fish and bubbles! The light can be too bright when he's fairly drowsy after the middle-of-the-night feeding so I use music only, and thankfully there is a very low volume setting. Sure wish the music/motion/lights could be longer than 6 minutes as I often stand rocking him while watching it for almost that length of time! And having to lean over to reset it while holding onto a crying (sometimes arching) heavy baby can be scary. To have an option of setting a timer (eg. 6 - 15 - 25 min) for the 3 modes would be perfect. Or a remote would be helpful but this always jacks up the price, and it means potentially disturbing the baby when resetting by remote. Fortunately, his sleep issue is getting better and haven't had to reset the timer. We had a very old model of the FP aquarium that ran for 20 min and when he was younger, I had to reset at least once on many occasions! That always disrupted his falling asleep.
The music isn't annoying. I was worried the rainforest sound would drive me nuts as it's on for all 3 modes but it doesn't bother me at all.
Have only had it for 3 weeks, used 1-2 times daily. Haven't changed the batteries it came with yet. Hopefully batteries will last another 3 weeks??
Another small "complaint" is that the on/off switch is way to accessible for my baby. He sees me pushing it so he tries to get at it and sometimes succeeds in turning it off! And he doesn't know how to turn it back on reliably so that defeats the soothing purpose! Fortunately, I think it's happened only when I'm still in the room.
A better timer would have given it 5 stars! (even if it drained the batteries faster. A sleeping baby is far more valuable than the cost of batteries!)
