Baby Products Reviews of Fisher-Price Rainforest Open Top Take-Along Swing with Music and MobileCustomer Review: Think about this before you buy it... Summary: 2 Stars
I bought this swing when my daughter was 3 months old. We were traveling and I knew I couldn't bring our big swing with us. But being gone 10 days I didn't know what I was going to do - this swing was a lifesaver at first!!! She was 3 months old (about 12 or so pounds) had good neck control and loved swinging. It worked great...but she looked so tiny in it! We used it on the go then as the main swing and at home placed it on the 2nd floor for a secondary swing - worked great. HOWEVER...we traveled again when she was nearly 6 months old and while the swing works great and the motor doesn't even have to be on the highest setting (5). I can no longer place her in it - its just NOT safe. She was fussing so normally I would put her in the big swing and she'd calm right down...I put her in this swing and she stretched out so her feet were at the bottom (metal area that is covered) which gave her just enough umph to wiggle...and her head got went off the swing right in between the part where the swing attaches to the base. Had I not been there watching her and the swing kept moving she could have been SERIOUSLY injured as her neck would have been between the two parts moving and smoosh. :( Do I recommend this swing? If you have nothing else to get and need something in a pinch for an itty bitty perhaps. BUT I'd say you have to absolutely watch your little one and when they show signs of movement remove them from the swing and put it away. THat means you don't get much use out of a 60-70$ item. Ways this swing could be better? In stead of a 3 point harness system it could have a 5 point harness system over the shoulders perhaps preventing the children from having the ability to move as much.
Customer Review: Great Little Swing Summary: 4 Stars
I looked around for quite a while before purchasing this swing - our first daughter never liked swings or bouncy chairs so I was skeptical at first. I bought this swing because we have very limited space in our house and I liked that it could fold and go with us anywhere. Having a compact SUV, space isn't as much as issue when we travel, so we don't mind very much that it doesn't fold quite as small as the box would have you believe. Batteries last forever in this swing, it's great! It took Rosemary a couple of tries, but she was soon very happy in her swing. We love that we could move the mobile to let her see us or hang it over her head so she could watch the Rain Forest animals. The only reason I didn't give this swing 5 stars: the animals fall off the mobile CONSTANTLY. If you move the swing AT ALL, down they go. Of course, Rosie thinks this is wonderful because she can grab the froggy when it drops in her lap and then chew on him. However, it's not so wonderful when it falls on the floor and ends up covered in dog hair. HUGE pet peeve. Also, it says that you can use the swing until baby is 25 lbs or is "active" - they don't define this very well. Rosie has been trying to sit herself up for a long time and twice dumped herself face-first onto the floor because she was able to fold herself in half at the waste at JUST the right moment during the swing cycle. Since she was strapped in, she wasn't hurt, (suspended just above the floor) but it was still scary. If your child is smaller and less "active", you won't have any trouble at all.
Customer Review: The new and improved version! Summary: 4 Stars
When I first saw this at Wal-Mart i was very surprised because I thought it had been recalled. It was a decent price for a travel swing and sure looked cute and the box had the "new and improved seat". We decided to go ahead and get it because our newborn loves to be swung and rocked.
When we got home, you could tell right away the seat looked very comfy. It was easy to put together, snap this, snap that and put two screws in...you are ready to go! Takes four c batteries, but we have ran this overnight for a total of five hours and it's still working strong. She sleeps great in it for a newborn, and doesn't fall out.
It has five speeds, seven different songs (though you can't select them, they play automatically) and it has a mobile which she seems fascinated by. Unlike the older swing, she doesn't seem to fall out as the swing cups her inside and the little pillow is perfect for keeping her head in place.
I personally think this is a cute swing for the price, easy to take along and much more secure then the first one. I give it four stars only because you can't choose what songs you want. Overall a great deal!
Customer Review: Dangerous! Summary: 2 Stars
The theory is great: a travel swing! It folds up rather compactly to toss in your minivan or car, and you can bring it along to people's houses for an easy place for your infant to nap.
I learned a few weeks ago that this style swing is quite dangerous! My son has recently become fascinated with his feet. If I put him in this swing while awake, he brings his foot up to put in his mouth, leans forward slightly to reach it, and that "forward" motion causes him to go head over heals and dangle essentially upside-down in his seat, folded over on top of himself as he is properly strapped in.
I helped my friend register for baby stuff last week, and because of this experience I told her she should probably stay away from ALL style swings that rock front to back and don't have a plastic "lap belt" to help secure the child. Find one that sways side to side for the little ones.
Customer Review: Fun and practical Summary: 4 Stars
I like this swing because it's cute, not too gaudy, and compact in size for my small house. It doesn't fold up as well as the picture shows. The legs fold in, which is great. The seat will fold like that, but there's nothing to keep it like that. So unless you sew on some velcro or something, it's going to pop right back to it's original shape. But still fits in the closet or car. It's just a little clunky to be carrying around.
My son loves it. We used it from birth, still use it at 5 months (now he watches the toys), and will continue to use for a few more months I'm sure. The toys are a little boring, but we often put others on it or in the swing with him. The music is cute and not really annoying. I like that it can also be silent. With daily use, the batteries last about 2 months.
