Baby Products Reviews of Fisher-Price Rainforest Open-Top Cradle SwingCustomer Review: Great features, but a space hog Summary: 4 StarsWhen my son started daycare at 3 months, they had a whole bunch of new toys and swings he'd never seen before. We already had the smaller Fisher-Price Rainforest Take-Along Open Top Swing, but it only went front to back, not side to side. My son loves the side to side motion for taking naps.
We normally keep it in the side-to-side position because it's easier to interact with him this way. I like sitting on the floor in front of him and reading a book, holding it out to the side so he can glance back and forth between the pages and my face.
My son likes talking to the animals circling in the mobile above, ducking behind the waving leaves. There's a wide variety of songs in various settings: lullabies, upbeat playful songs, nature sounds and a new-age-like nature sound/song combo. The seat can be rotated from back to side to front or anywhere in-between. There are 6 different speed settings, though my son normally doesn't like anything faster than the second speed.
We like the fact that it can be plugged into the wall, although it can also take batteries.
It's pretty huge and takes up a lot of space. It's also heavy and cannot be moved easily. If you don't have a space you can dedicate to this product for a few months, this swing will likely annoy you despite all its cool features.
I definitely think it's worth the price, especially considering the smaller swing was about $60.
Customer Review: Perfect!!! Summary: 5 StarsI bought this swing after much researching. I bought not for my own child but for my friend's baby girl for when they are at my house and for when my husband and I have another child. I have had 4 children of my own, my oldest is almost 11 and back then they were crank operated. I have owned 2 battery operated swings before this one.
The highlights for me were the fact that it can go in the 2 different directions and that I can plug it in. My friends baby absolutely loves this swing and in fact it's the only place she wants to sleep when she is at my house. It does have gliches every once in a while but that is easily solved by switching it over to battery and then checking the power cords different connections as there are 2 points where it connects before it finally ends in the wall plug. After that I switch it back to the plug in and it works fine.
The cover is very easy to remove and launder. The toys are easily wiped clean too. Overall, I have NO COMPLAINTS. This is by far the best deal and the best swing I have ever owned. If I had to I would buy it again and again.
Customer Review: Can't believe I went two kids without this AWESOME sing! Summary: 5 StarsThis is BY FAR thee greatest swing out there. Most of these reviews are from first time moms who haven't seen what else is out there. I HAVE! I was a nanny, a pre-school teacher, and now am a mom of 3.
The song variety is great for setting baby's mood and keeping mommy sane. The mobile is cute and engaging...wish it had lights. The speed variety is superfluous; I think of it as three settings. The ability to vary swing direction is wonderful for that transition from newborn to baby. It reclines just the right amount for sleeping without having to worry about older babies going out the top. I like that the tray swings away and even comes off. Still using it every day for my 9-month-old .
And OH MY GOD! It actually PLUGS IN! This ALONE saves me $10 a week in batteries (rechargeables are a joke for swings). I'd never have spent the money for a third baby otherwise. I but this for EVERY expecting mom, even if it's not the one on their list and I have to find someone to split the cost.
Buy it and be THRILLED!
Customer Review: Great swing, lousy motor Summary: 3 StarsI received this swing as a gift. I love that it can be plugged in so you don't have to worry about batteries. My son likes that he can swing front to back and will often fall asleep in this position. He didn't much care for the side to side motion of the traditional swings, maybe when he's older. The mobile is ok but the angle on the seat makes it very difficult for my son to look at. I think the arm on the mobile should have been longer. The rainforest sounds are a nice option to annoying "baby" music. My BIGGEST complaint on this swing is the very weak motor. Sometimes it just stops and then can barely get going again. This wakes the baby up and I have to run over and swing it manually to calm him. It seems like after a while the swing warms up and is more consistent but this usually takes almost an hour and unless it's a really long nap my son will usually get bored before then. If FP could solve the motor issues this swing would rate much higher.
Customer Review: A step back in cradle swings Summary: 2 StarsWe bought this a while ago and it is the second baby swing we've bought and we no longer use it because it's not as good as the Fisher-Price Ocean Wonders Aquarium Cradle Swing (a previous generation Fisher-Price swing) which was our first swing (the motor died) and current swing (we found another one used). This swing seems to have all the right features on paper but when it comes to real world use our baby naps longer and keeps herself entertained longer in the Ocean Wonders swing than when she is in the Rainforest swing. I really hope Fisher Price brings back the mechanics of the older swing with the features of this swing (read: power plug) by the time we have another child.
