Baby Products Reviews of Fisher-Price Rainforest Open-Top Cradle SwingCustomer Review: Motor Lacking Enough Swing Power Summary: 3 Stars
I purchased this swing for my 4 month old daughter. I was enticed by the fact it was the only one I could locate that could be plugged into an outlet and work off household electricity rather than battery power. I imagined this would make the "swing" consistantly a better "swing" as there would never be a weak power source. The first swing I brought home from the store was assembled (which only took about 15 minutes) and plugged in. I was immediately disappointed by the lack of swing, and eventually my wife and I determined that there was definitely something wrong with the swing, because even with no baby the swing would stop swinging then slowly...and barely swing again. I returned it...and purchased another. I agree with the other reviewer that it just appears to take awhile for it to "warm" up. As I sit and watch her in the swing at this moment, it seems to be working okay, but I'm not totally convinced. The mobile rotates and the leaves move up and down. If the motor issue could be improved I'd be more pleased with this particular swing.
Customer Review: Baby and us LOVE it, Haven't had a problem Summary: 5 Stars
We bought this in Sept 06 when my son was born, as my other two kids loved their swings as babies. We thought it was a cool theme and loved that it plugged in, we used a LOT of batteries in the previous swings we owned, so this was huge.
Well he started using it at 5lbs and we set it at the slowest speed and it was fast. As he grew, it had a harder and harder time swinging him, but it was sporadic. Sometimes it would be fast and others it would be slow. But now he weighs 19lbs and at the fastedt setting it can still swing him, though very slowly. Regardless, he is entertained by the mobile and we turn on the "sleepy" music during nap time even if he's not in the swing. The different music is awesome, settings at "slow music, fast music, jungle sounds and water sounds. We used them all.
Now he is too mobile to just sit so we don't put him in it much, but the music and mobile are useful. All in all, I agree there are things to improve, but we have relied on this swing in different ways and it has not disappointed us.
Customer Review: Short lived item for bigger babies Summary: 4 Stars
This swing has it's good and bad points.
The GOOD:
-Easy to assemble
-Comfortable seat for baby to fall asleep in
-Most of the music is not annoying to me
-Plugs in to the wall, I've never put batteries in it
-Mobile swings out of the way
-Swings both directions
The BAD:
-The tray comes down in between the legs, making it difficult to use when you have the baby swaddled or in a nightgown
-Now that my baby is around 16+ lbs, the motor is working overtime, sounds noisy, and the swing itself is getting unstable. I think I may have to retire it long before he hits the actual weight limit of the swing.
I'm disappointed that this swing is not going to last much longer. It seems to be one of the best things for my baby when he gets wound up. But lately one of the legs is rising up off the floor when he is swinging. If you have a smaller baby, it will probably work well for you. It would work better if the tray was removable or there was no leg center piece.
Customer Review: Nearly Perfect-- let's babies and parents sleep Summary: 4 Stars
We purchased this swing when my daughter was just a few days old, and it was the only way she would sleep, aside from in our arms. She only liked the CRADLE position, so for fussy babies try that setting. The pros of the swing: four different audio settings (I used the waterfall for nighttime and jungle sounds for daytime naps, to help her differentiate night and day; the songs were too intrusive for my tastes), a very comfortable padded seat, a/c power so no batteries needed, and a wide range of swing power settings. Cons of the swing: a slight squeak when swing is in motion; occasionally the swing swings only slightly even when set on the maximum power setting; and the plastic toy tray had to be removed so our baby could sleep comfortably.
Overall, this was about the best $100 we spent for our baby. She started sleeping through the night at about 2 months, and although she sleeps in her crib now, I still let her take her naps in the swing. She sleeps more deeply and longer there.
Worth it!
Customer Review: When a swing don't have that swing... Summary: 1 Stars
We held off on our swing longer than anything else because a friend of ours had recommended getting one with an AC adaptor so we wouldn't have to replace any batteries. Finally, the rainforest swing became available and we snatched it up. It was cute, the colors were great, and it swung great when there was nothing in it.
Then comes little Phoenix. Weighing in at a whopping 10lb 10ozs, he was definitely a little bigger than we had bargained for, but there shouldn't be any problem 'cause this swing holds up to 25lbs. Right? Wrong.
The swing never got up to a strong swing and would usually peter out about 10 minutes and barely move. Also, after 2 months of using it for maybe a total of 2 hours, the music/mobile portion stopped working. Fantastic.
So, my MIL got us a Graco swing that is rated up to 30lbs and it works like a charm. Plus, it's cheaper than this version. Phoenix sleeps in it, plays with his toys in it, and, most importantly, this swing swings. =)
