Baby Products Reviews of Fisher-Price Rainforest Open-Top Cradle SwingCustomer Review: Nice swing that does not swing much Summary: 2 Stars
We just finished putting it together and I agree with the other poster who says it doesn't swing much. It hardly goes 3 inches off center, no matter what the speed setting is. I think there must be a manufacturing defect because the swing just doesn't move as much as I remember the one in the store moving. We got ours to swing a little faster on occasion and if you let it warm up long enough, but so far I am disappointed.
I like the music, but the controls are definitely lacking. The controls feel cheap and it's difficult to click them into the place you intend because the settings are so close to each other.
I am thinking there is a problem with the motor/controls and will be revisting Babies R Us to see if I need a new motor.
UPDATE: I did find that the first swing was defective. The replacement swing is much quieter and actually swings. If your swing makes a clicking noise, take it back to the store!
I'd rate this swing a 3.5 or 4 now. I love the plug in feature, but I still have gripes about not being able to cycle through the music. The buttons themselves can also stand to be improved. Finally, it would be nice if the seat had more recline options.
Customer Review: Fantastic Swing - BUY IT!! Summary: 5 Stars
My husband gave me a lot of grief for buying the most expensive swing, but after the second day of owning it, he shut his mouth and made me dinner.
The swing is a little more then the others, but well worth the extra money. It has the option to face forward or swing side to side, which is wonderful. You can reline the seat, so the the baby is able to lay back, a great feature when they're so small in the beginning. The Mobile turns around, which my infant never seems to tire of. The music has four different settings, and each song is so long it takes forever to repeat, so thankfully, you don't feel like you're hearing the same irritating three notes over and over. And, if you can believe, the music is actually soothing... not like nails on chalkboard!
Also... you can plug it into the wall, so you don't use batteries! I can't even imagine how much I have saved with this feature. Its fantastic. Nothing else on the market plugs in now.
My recommendation is spend the extra few bucks and get this fantastic swing, you won't regret it for a second, but you will kick yourself when you get the low end one without all the features.
Customer Review: An Excellent Buy Summary: 4 Stars
We purchased this swing for our newborn son based on the fact that my wife uses one at the daycare she works at. Perhaps the biggest selling point for us was the fact that you have the option of using a plug-in adapter or batteries. Since just about every other item used for a baby takes batteries, it was nice to finally see a product with an A/C adapter. Other features that we like are the side-to-side or front-to-back swinging option, the wonderful mobile which features up-and-down movement, and the music/rainfall noises. All of these options work independently of one another, which makes this product even more appealing. We haven't had any problem with the swinging (or lack thereof) that others seem to be having. Sure, the swing doesn't move very fast, but I don't think my son is quite ready for roller coaster speeds just yet. My son seems very content while he naps in the swing as well.
Overall, I think that this swing is an excellent purchase for anyone in the market for one. While it may not have the strongest motor, it has plenty of other options that make it a good buy.
Highly recommended.
Customer Review: Got Some Great and Some Not So Great Features Summary: 4 Stars
I previously owned two ocean wonders swings but needed a new swing. I purchased this immediately due to the plug-in option. I have a son who has had chronic ear infections so he spent many nights sleeping in this swing. Here's what I like: the swinging motion is gentle. The ocean wonders swings were a little too forceful in the swinging if you ask me. I also like the fact that the swing has a open top and the mobile can move out the way. I bonked my baby's head a zillion times on the ocean animals getting him out with the other swing. The plug-in option is terrific. NO MORE D BATTERIES!!! What I don't like or should I say hate, is the fact that the tray table is permanently attached to the swing. I'll be the first to admit that the detachable tray was sometimes a pain because it would always be on the floor or there was never a place for it, but now, if you don't want to use the tray it's just there and now my son likes to grab on it and slam it down repeatedly. I have to always use it even when I don't want to. That is my chief complaint. Other than that, I have not had a problem and recommend this swing.
Customer Review: Couple glitches but hey, it plugs in! Summary: 3 Stars
Pros:
AC adapter!
Lift up mobile
Multiple positions possible
Recline position is great (just like the Fisher Price Aquarium Swing)
Washable cover (pretty standard)
Cons:
Tray table- seriously just complete waste of plastic and space. Do people actual use those?
Swing and power- here's the deal- what I have found is that every Fisher Price swing that we have owned stops when a blanket comes near the floor causing drag or when the baby starts to get heavier (15+ lbs). Your best bet is to start the swing manually and then turn on the dial. An oddity unique to this swing is that if the swing is not locked into one of the positions (which is not all the simplistic to do) then it will tilt the baby to one side.
Unimpressive mobile- the Ocean Wonders has a much better mobile.
All in all if FP would make the Ocean Wonders swing with an AC adapter it would be the better choice... but since that isn't happening this is the best that I've found simply due to the AC adapter alone.
