Baby Products Reviews of Fisher-Price Rainforest Open-Top Cradle SwingCustomer Review: Best swing I've owned Summary: 5 Stars
This is my third baby and my third swing (I had a hand crank one and a battery powered cradle swing before). This is the best one I've had yet. I love the bright colors and great mobile toys that actually keep babies attention, that it has the ac adaptor (which is all that we've used), and the option of baby swinging front to back or side to side as different babies prefer different ways. Unlike others I don't find the motor too loud. It's as loud as other swings and the sound of the motor is usually soothing to a baby anyway. I put the swing together by myself and it went together quickly. I feel that it is sturdy. The seat is at a great angle for a newborn and can adjust when they want to sit upright. I don't care too much for the music or sounds (although my older kids like it) but I like that the mobile moves and the leaves on the mobile open and close. My baby is still small (about 11 lbs.) but I don't worry about the swing not being able to handle more weight since we have only had to use the lowest swing setting to keep it moving. The other swing I was going to chose was a papasan swing but the new style was on back order and I was nervous about the reports of babies tipping out of the seat. That's not a problem on this swing and my baby looked snug and comfortable even as a newborn. I'm happy with my purchase.
Customer Review: Yes, the swing is slow but it's still a wonderful product Summary: 5 Stars
I notice how many complaints there are about the speed of this swing and I agree that it is slow but that is not something to be complaining about. It is about the speed of natural swaying if you were standing and rocking the baby side to side. What more do you need? It's for gentle soothing and rocking for baby, not for jostling and bouncing fun, that's what a bouncer is for.
Either way, it works wonders on my 3 month old to help her fall asleep and the mobile keeps her attention when she's awake. The music is fun, upbeat and very different compared to other baby products, which is a welcome relief since most seem to have droning lullabies. I especially like the rainfall setting because it plays nice nature sounds for baby and she goes to sleep so peacefully while listening to them.
The fact that it plugs in is awesome for saving batteries and the ability to make it glide side to side or swing front to back is a nice change of pace for baby (I assume as much since I don't really know what she is thinking).
What sold me originally was the brightness of colors - if you're at the store and all you see are pastels, the Rainforest collection is very exciting. All in all, this is unique, captivating and comforting for my baby and that is all that matters. I am extremely happy with this product!

Customer Review: DOES NOT WORK Summary: 1 Stars
We have the Baby Papasan Cradle Swing which is an excellent product. My wife and I thought we would purchase one of these as well since it plugs in and looks to be almost the same as the Papasan swing. Hmm, well it isn't at all the same. The design is acually an improvement as the swing is much more stable. The seat is not fully inclosed in plastic like the Papasan swing so the baby seems to be a bit more comfortable as the seat adjusts to the baby's weight. The swing is also brightly colored and the mobile portion is very cute. So far so good right?
The swing seems to be great. . . until you turn it on. It just does not swing. There may as well be one speed as the device BARELY moves at all. Even with the nothing in the swing, it barely rotates at all and simply does not function. Also, the music is not very calming and you cannot adjust which song you would like to hear. Instead, it cycles through all the songs in order therefore, you always HAVE to hear the same songs.
I am not sure if the swing that we received was broken and that caused all of the problems with this device since I am the first one to review this product. If you do deceide to purchase this swing, just make sure that you can return it in case it is a problem with the swing.
Customer Review: GARBAGE! DO NOT BUY FISHER PRICE! Summary: 1 Stars
After much online research and deliberation my wife and I finally decided on the Fisher Price Rainforest Open top Cradle Swing. We ended up choosing this one because of the plug in feature (we burned thru 3 packs of batteries and a motor in 2 weeks on our first swing). We recieved the item promptly and in brand new condition from Amazon on a monday. By friday evening of the same week the motor was completely shot, with not even a hint of swing effort or motor noise (which was louder than the music to begin with). Also, by friday, the music feature would only play the first 3 seconds of each selection. As new parents we were extremely disappointed that we had finally found something to keep our newborn asleep during the day for more than 10min. at a time, and it only lasted 4 days. We cannot strongly discourage other new parents enough to NEVER, EVER, EVER, BUY A FISHER PRICE PRODUCT. FISHER PRICE MAKES ABSOLUTE GARBAGE! IF AMAZON HAD A NEGATIVE STAR RATING OPTION, THIS PRODUCT WOULD RECEIVE IT!
PS. The most time our baby spent in the swing at any one time was maybe an hour at a stretch at a medium speed. We never cranked the motor to high and left it on for several hours (one; it was too loud and two; there is/was no difference between low, med., and high.).
Customer Review: Great Swing Summary: 5 Stars
I had this on my registry after reading good reviews. I got it for my shower so it was ready to use when I brought the baby home from hospital.
He is three months old now and we use it alot. We have set it up between my computer and my husbands. He spends time in it when we are working at our computers.
I never thought the ability to change the way it swings would matter, but apparently it does, my son has a definite preference for swinging side to side rather than back and forth. So that feature turned out to be very handy.
He really enjoys the mobile. It hangs at a good height for him to see.
The big reason for choosing it was the fact it didnt have to run off batteries. So we have it plugged into the wall and never had to even put batteries into it.
Only things I would improve would be the following:
A longer cord.
The tray should be easy to remove.
The other thing to keep in mind, is its not very portable. So if that is a feature you are looking for keep that in mind. We were not, we had a set place for this in mind.
We have other rainforest items. It seems like a good set to get. Nice and vibrant colours for the babies to enjoy.
