Baby Products Reviews of Fisher-Price Rainforest Open-Top Cradle Swing

Customer Review: I love the Rainforest collection...
Summary: 5 Stars

It is so vibrant and colorful! I love the little frog! It's very adorable! I've got the whole collection. I just wish they made a matching Car seat, and stroller!

I orginally purchased the small 'take-along' version. I love it and used it all the time. It was perfect size for our living room, and could easily be put away for storage. I was so disapointed when it got recalled! I was weary about purchasing this larger swing because it was so big, and costs so much more. The smaller swing was $60 as this one is $120.

We started off on the wrong foot, I got a bad batch when I purchased this one. The speaker was blown, making the music sound really terrible, it only played one song and the swinging levels didn't vary much. I contacted fisher price and they express mailed me a new top part, for free, and I got it in two days! I am very pleased with the speed of the delivery!

Everything is working excellent now. My son loves the different levels of swinging. We both love the music. You can put it on "No Music", Nap time music- very soothing and slow, Awake Music- a very cheerful and upptey beat, And it also has two outdoor settings, nature -- mostly frogs and birds and the other one has a running stream and a soft tone playing. I find the nature noised very soothing for myself. And every mode and numerous different songs, that play in an order.

I love how the mobile lifts up, so I can easily get our son out of the swing. I don't have to worry about hitting that newborn soft-spot! The seat is very soft, and supports his head. The seat also comes off very easily for washing. The straps however do not seem to come off. The seat also can recline, or sit up right. It's kind of hard to do, because you have to use two hands, but it's not very difficult.

The swivle feature so nice, I can face him towards me where ever I am, without having to move the entire swing. I don't think Charles likes that side to side feature, but that's probably something he'll get used too.

I am overall very pleased with this swing. I look forward to giving Charlie snacks on his tray when he's older. I would reccommend this swing. In fact, It's got so much cool stuff I wish I would have purchased this one first!

Customer Review: THIS SWING IS A MIRACLE WORKER!
Summary: 5 Stars

After three months I was so tired of holding my LARGE baby 24 hours a day. He would not sleep if I put him down. He would scream. I was beginning to think he had colic. The only thing that soothed him was his crib mobile. We had gotten the other Fisher Price power plus swing and he absolutely would not sit in it! So I decided to go ahead and put him in this one in the store and by manually moving it back and forth (snice the stores are too cheap to put batteries in it) he just sat back, relaxed, and started cooing at the mobile (which wasn't even moving) So we bought the swing. It was soooo EASY to put together compared to the aquarium swing that I had had for my 3 year old when he was a baby. It has soothing music, which we mostly use now. AND it also has an upbeat music selection for play time. The swing also has 2 different nature settings which we have not used yet so I'm guessing they are probably useless? But who cares if it has more features then you actually use? This swings motor is VERY quiet compared to the grinding motors of most of the other swings we have been through (quite a few as i have 4 sons) Since my baby is large I always use the highest swing setting and it moves just fine. I'm not sure why others have had a problem with the swing not swinging since my 3 motnh old is a big boy compared to other kids his age. For the people who gave it a bad review for this reason every fisher price swing i have ever tried will not move with an extremely active or crying baby so this is not a defect, its simply so when your baby falls asleep the swing doesnt give your baby whiplash. I do not think fisher price will ever correct this problem and i dont blame them (lawsuit city!) In my opinion, Baby's do not need to be swung back n forth like a kid at a playground who is trying to go faster and faster. The mobile is at a great angel by the child's feet for better viewing. It is stated on most crib mobiles to place your baby so his feet are under it not his head.
The only thing I would have done differently is added another adjustment so baby can sit up better for playtime. and maybe add some toys on the tray. The matching high chair is a lot better for playtime.

Customer Review: LOVE THIS SWING!!
Summary: 5 Stars

For all of those who have or are considering a battery-operated swing - one question: WHY? Our first swing was borrowed from a cousin and it was battery powered (the aquarium version with the lights, etc.). EIGHT PACKS of batteries later (4 batteries with each change) - I figured out that for the cost of those batteries - I could have had a new plug-in swing. Duh. Learn from my mistake and don't waste money on batteries when you can have a plug-in swing with PLENTY of power.

Well-designed and thoughtful. The toys lift up and out of the way for loading/unloading baby (cute toys too and my baby likes how the leaves move up and down). Controls are easy to understand and there are lots of options (including volume control and a reset button - always good). Swing can move as a traditional swing (back/forth) and as a cradle swing (side/side). Two different incline positions. Easy to set-up and very stable. You do want to be sure (like any swing) that the feet are on a firm, flat surface. Works best if you give the swing a little push after you turn it on - don't count on ANY swing having enough power to get to maximum swing without a little push start. BONUS: In my experience, the swinging motor is much quieter than the battery-operated swing I used to have.

Tunes on the swing are okay. (Side comment - why don't they make one of these where you can plug in your MP3 player or IPod??) There is a traditional lullaby setting, a caribbean-style playful music setting (my six-year old likes this one for dancing - great entertainment for baby), a rainforest animal sound setting and then water sounds.

I do miss the lights from our old swing (this one has no lighting) and the cradle part of the swing requires a little wider storage than older swings. But overall - great swing and pros FAR outweigh the cons. And... you won't be wasting money and resources on batteries. GREAT DEAL!!

Customer Review: Some Improvements, But Missing Some Pros Of Earlier Swings
Summary: 4 Stars

We bought this swing after the motor on our Fisher-Price Ocean Wonders Aquarium Cradle Swing died. There are some things we prefer about the Rainforest swing, and some things we miss about the Aquarium swing.

PROS:
-AC Adapter! Our 1st kid used her Aquarium swing a lot, and recharging and changing batteries was a pain. Great, great feature that earlier swings SHOULD have had.
-Bright mobile characters, and moving leaves are fun for baby to look at, unlike Aquarium swing's 4 identical fish (but we miss the glowing water globe).
-Open top design (flip up mobile) means it's extra easy to get baby in and out.
-Looks much nicer than previous swing models.
-Most of the songs and sounds are more pleasant to hear than the Aquarium swing's (however, see multiple sound cons below).

CONS:
-No white noise option. Aquarium swing had a crashing waves mode and a steady rain mode. Rainforest swing has a rain mode, but it's punctuated by animal noises. More fun, but not as helpful for keeping a baby asleep while you wrestle a toddler in to pajamas and bed.
-Greensleeves. I understand this is a traditional English folk song and tune, but it's also the tune for Christmas song "What Child Is This?", Very odd to hear year-round.
-No lights on mobile. Aquarium swing had a glowing water globe that changed colors and had floating shapes. Would have been nice to see something like that here.

OVERALL: I'd have a hard time choosing between this and the Fisher-Price Ocean Wonders Aquarium Cradle Swing if the Aquarium swing also came with an AC adapter. The Rainforest swing looks nicer and is easier to use, but I don't think it's quite as good at soothing a baby.

Customer Review: Just doesn't live up to the original
Summary: 2 Stars

We had the duckie cradle swing (short lived production period) when my son was a baby. That swing put him into a coma for naps from 2 months till 6 months and saved my sanity many times. The only drawback was the battery factor... it chewed through D cells like no one's business. We kept it, hoping for another baby... and ended up with twins.

A friend of a friend lent us her rainforest swing and I was stoked - coma for naps and NO BATTERIES!

Unfortunately it's just not as good as it sounds. It didn't swing as high and it didn't swing as fast ... the mobile was slow, one of the leaves stopped flapping before we got it, and it wasn't in a good spot for baby to even view it ... the seat is different. It's easier to recline and seems more comfy BUT instead of being all one piece that tilts back or forward, only the back tilts or comes forward, which is not so good for a reflux baby - squishes the stomach SLIGHTLY more. (one of my twins we have dubbed "the spit up queen" so I am more attuned to these things than I care to be... it's OK if the back is reclined but not it you try to tilt it up)

Neither of my twins cared for this swing at all - they would sit in it and look bored and then start to fuss and then start to cry until you took them out - they preferred the duckie swing. It worked its coma magic on them just like my son. I ended up buying a used aquarium swing (same concept only with music and lights in addition to the mobile) and they are so much happier. The aquarium swing is rigged up to plug in instead of use batteries so everyone is happy.

Skip the rain forest swing - look for an aquarium or duckie swing. For what it's worth - people are complaining a lot about the rainforest motor dying... my son's duckie swing and the aquarium swing i bought are from 2003 and both are churning away strong as ever - maybe the quality was better then?
