Customer Review: Baby loves it so far -- but 1 question for other owners...

My baby boy is almost 3-and-a-half months old & he loves his new gym! The 1st time I placed him on the mat he was excited, but only tolerated 5 minutes before getting fussy & frustrated -- I think the "sensory overload" agitated him. BUT since them he has loved it, playing up to 20 minutes at a time, sometimes quietly observing, & at other times smiling, squirming, kicking and shrieking with joy! My hope was that this gym would: (1) serve as a developmental tool for the baby, and (2) keep him happily (though briefly) busy while I wash bottles, put a quick load in the washer, etc. (of course I'm still close enough to see & hear him). It HAS met my expections, but I find myself so fascinated & touched by his reactions that I often lay down next to the gym just to watch him! I DO wish it was portable though...& I have 1 question for other owners: Are the butterflies supposed to "fly/spin" in circles on their own (powered by batteries of course, which is what I expected), or not?Customer Review: Very versatile!

We received this product as a gift when our son was about 1 month old. We hadn't planned to get a playmat since we had a swing and bouncer, but we're SO glad we got this! Our son was interested in it from the first moment we put him down on it. He loves watching the lights, listening to the music, and batting at the toys. The toys that are included are a good variety, but more importantly, you can easily attach other toys made to go on a carrier or stroller bar. We mix them up every once in a while to keep it fresh.
He also loves the butterflies, but it's a manual mobile which stinks since I have to actually turn them myself for him to enjoy them. This is not a slick swivling mobile either; it's very taut and you have to really push to make it turn. That's really the only thing I'd say needs improving though! He still loves it at 4 months. It's always good for at least 15-20 minutes of entertaining (we usually use it in the morning while I'm getting breakfast).

I purchased this activity mat from Amazon a few months ago for my son and while he loves the mat, I do have some lingering questions.
1. What caused the rainbow to shoot out of the giraffe's head? Does it hurt him? Is it indicative of a super power?
2. I can identify the monkey, the birds and the fish on the mat, but what are the other two animals? I suspected that one was a zebra, but my husband insists it is a snow tiger. That seems ridiculous...this is the jungle, people. The other one might be a cheetah, but it has hooves. I like to verbally label things as my son looks at them but these two have me stumped.
3. Why must I violate the giraffe, who already seems to be in some distress due to the rainbow situation, every time I need to replace the batteries?
On the bright side, I think this mat will come in very handy during lessons on tolerance and the ethics of scientific experimentation on animals.

We purchased the gym before the baby was born..started using at 3mos & he basically was thrilled about the lights/sounds..it wasn't until he was 4mos that he really started playing will all the toys and smiling at his face in the mirror. He is now 7 months and its a must have where ever we go. It's very portable..just remove the legs and they fold easily in the trunk. I fold the mat and carry in a bag along with the toys to grandma's house. The mat is washable and easy to keep clean for those baby spit up moments.
My baby plays with this gym every single day and always seems to find something fun & exciting about it. I don't understand why anyone would give this gym a bad review..its not a baby sitter..you still have to watch your baby..get down on the floor and play with them at times and helps with their independent play time.
We are very pleased with this product..absolutely no complaints!

My little guy has loved this gym since he was 8 weeks old. At that age, he couldn't really interact with it, but loved looking at the lights and the butterflies, which I had to manipulate manually. Now that he's almost five months old, he enjoys hitting and kicking the elephant rattle and swatting the parrot toy! His favorite parts have got to be the removable toucan and monkey--they go with him everywhere! And they're so easy to wash (and they air dry beautifully) after he's chewed on them. The mat washes nicely as well.
The rainforest sounds are gentle and soothing and have lulled him to sleep when he finished playing. There are parts of this play gym that he has not noticed yet such as the crinkle leaf and the cubs tail (both attached to the mat) and the toys can be placed in different areas so that play is always different and interesting, so I expect him to continue enjoying this play gym for a long time.
