Baby Products Reviews of Fisher-Price Rainforest Melodies and Lights Deluxe Gym

Customer Review: Bright Colors
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a really good product over all. My daughter enjoys this. She has been using it since she was just 2 months. I liked the fact that I had extra places to put more toys. I did have to get some linkadoos to attach them too when shee was really little so she was able to reach them. She enjoys the lights and the butterflys, however the butterflys do not move. They are on a swivel though so you can manually move them. I do like the fact that it plays music for 20min, that is really nice. She hasn't been able to activate the play mode by herself, but I even have to shake it pretty hard to get it to go off sometimes.

The only thing that I could say about this is that if your baby is starting to roll, they roll into the sides of the arches. My daughter hasn't had a problem and it hasn't hindered her rolling, I just wish it was a little bit bigger. She is getting to big for it, she doesn't stay on it or anything for that matter, so If your child has already started to roll and scoot I would just recommend a colorful blanket.

Customer Review: Great gym
Summary: 5 Stars

My daughter started using this gym when she was just over 2 months old. She would only play for about 5-10 minutes at a time she would mostly look at everything and hit things by accident. I always placed her feet on the crackly leaf. I added a few different toys like jacques the peacock and celest - sun/moon toy with a teething star that hung almost to the bottom, and her zebra. At 3 months she got a lot more use out of it like 20 minutes or more a day she could grab onto the teething star and the zebra and spin the parrot. she started shifting herself around to get to different toys. By 4 months she was would stay and play for an hour or more... and she started rolling over - i think it had to do with all the kicking and arm swinging from playing in the gym it just really helped develop her muscles. She is now 7 months old and does not play in it so much (I keep it set up in the living room so she can crawl to it and play when she wants) just yesterday I found her sitting up in there now playing with the butterflies!

Customer Review: Entertaining for the little ones!
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this a couple months ago for our now almost 6 month old. In the past month, he has really taken to it and can spend half an hour entertaining himself with it. He recently learned to roll from back to front, so has a new way to enjoy it. As for some reviewers' complaints about not enough toys, I would disagree. There are enough toys to keep my little man busy, and there are several extra loops for adding or moving the toys to different levels of the gym. The mat itself is easy to clean, which I unfortunately found out the hard way--our dog peed on it more than once! I throw it in the washer on cold, delicate with "baby" laundry detergent, and hang it to dry in the basement. I have washed it 3 or 4 times and it still looks like new! We also packed it on a recent trip so he'd have something familiar and fun to play with, and I think he really liked it! I would certainly recommend this. Yes, it would be nice if the butterflies moved on their own, but I wouldn't consider it a deal-breaker.

Customer Review: Very nice, but overwhelming.
Summary: 3 Stars

This gym is very high quality and attractive. The music and sounds offer a lot of variety and are not annoying at all. The toys are varied, cute and friendly-looking, and well-designed. I was in love with it, but my son was not! I think it was too much for him. Whenever I put him under it, he was fascinated for about 90 seconds, and then he'd shut his eyes and start to cry and not stop until I took him out. He is not really ever like that otherwise. I have noticed that he is very tuned in to the visual world, and this gym offers an overwhelming amount of visual input. Kids are so trained by tv and computers to need a lot of things going on in front of them to avoid being bored, and this gym seems like the infant version of a video game-- not a bad thing, but it's good to be aware when making that choice for them. I gave this gym away and got a hand-me-down Gymini from a neighbor-- it just has holes for links, and we attach one or two toys at a time, and my son is much happier.

Customer Review: OK, but not great
Summary: 3 Stars

I wanted to love this play mat but it's jsut been OK. The music is nice and not annoying like so many others out there. But there are just too many items that do nothing! The giraffe does nothing, the butterflies are on a mobile that doesn't spin mechanically. They are too high for baby to reach so, what is the point? We attached our own toys that were purchased seperatey. The overhanging leaves are annoying when putting baby down and picking up. Our son liked the mirror but it is pointed the wrong way so was useless until he was old enough to grab it and turn it towards himself. He was also able to remove it without my noticing and I caught him chewing on it. The hanging toucan he seems to like ok but the monkey falls out constantly. The mat itself is pretty slippery so it was difficult for him to get enough traction during tummy time to roll over. The first few times he did roll over I put a blanket down on top of the mat. Overall, not bad but I wouldn't recommend it to my friends.
