Baby Products Reviews of Fisher-Price Rainforest JumperooCustomer Review: Better & more attractive than the Deluxe Jumperoo... Summary: 5 Stars
We have an active baby that really likes to stand, tries to walk when held, and always wants to be on the move -- it can be exhausting. From reviews I read, the Jumperoo seemed like a great toy to provide excercise and fun for the baby (and a short break for Mom & Dad).
The long awaited Rainforest Jumperoo finally came about a week ago! Since we had pre-ordered from Amazon in November anticipating a Christmas gift, we were disappointed that there were delays and it was not expected 'til well after the holidays.
In the meantime, my 3 month old son was anxious to move and had lots of energy, so I bought the Deluxe Jumperoo at a local retailer about 4 weeks ago. He liked it, but seemed to get bored quickly with the toys and would use it just a few minutes each day.
Some of the key differences with the Rainforest Jumperoo:
- The seat rotates 360 degrees and there are toys all around it, so there is always something new to look at -- and he can change his view of the room by himself (he's just starting to turn in it on his own).
- There are animals hanging above his head from the "leaves" and the baby loves to look at them and sometimes jumps to try and reach them.
- The music & sounds are pretty cool...like they would play at a carribean restaurant. The Deluxe music was okay, but the "boinging" noises (although fun at first) got annoying pretty quickly.
- The format is round versus the old A-frame style -- although I feared it would take up even more space, it actually looks less obtrusive and fits in the room better. It's easier to get by and doesn't trip you!
- There are three hanging springs (versus four) which seems to offer more mobility and freedom of movement. Sometimes he just sways around.
- Now nearly 4 months old, our son will spend happy stretches of 20-30+ minutes multiple times a day in the Rainforest version. Less than a week ago, he would spend about 15 minutes a day in the Deluxe version.
- The Rainforest version is attractive and seems well made in comparison to the "Deluxe". It has thoughtful design details -- like the tree frog seat and the silky green tie-dyed fabric under the hanging leaves.
- It appears that when folded it will take less space than the Deluxe -- which is pretty awkward when folded.
- If your decor is more subtle, the Rainforest Jumperoo will probably fit in better than the vibrant blue painted frame of the Deluxe version.
Suggested changes:
- More opions for the height of the seat -- this seems like an easy change the manufacturer could make that would be helpful. My son is pretty tall for his age, but between a "1" and a "2". So his feet are flat on the ground at level 1, and don't quite reach at level 2. This means he stands and sort of walks to get slight bouncing -- versus actually jumping (the toes are supposed to touch but not have feet flat on floor for optimal jumping).
- I would like some sort of storage option (like a vinyl bag it would fit into) to take to another room, store it for company, etc.
Overall, the Rainforest version was a little more expensive than the Deluxe, but in my view, well worth it. The differences are more than cosmetic, and our son really does seem to enjoy it more than than the Deluxe (which is on it's way to Grandma's today).
Customer Review: ~*~*~10 MONTHS LATER & MY TWINS STILL LOVE THESE~USED EVERYDAY~WAY BETTER THAN EXERSAUCERS~*~*~ Summary: 5 Stars
We got these when my girls were either 3 or 4 months, they are now almost 14 months.
I had borrowed an Exersaucer from my friend, I'm not sure which one but it had a TON of toys. Both my girls were smaller than average and the exersaucer seat opening was too big for them to use, even if I put pillows or blankets in there. My girls also were not entertained by it and could not spin themselves around. I tried several times but they soon screamed if I even attempted to put them in it. So the search began for something else to entertain them and I decided on a Jumperoo. So many too choose from but based on the Tons of Wonderful Reviews and the price seemed good to me since I had to buy 2.
My husband and I had these assembled in no time at all. When we placed our daughters in these for the first time, they did NOT scream or cry but their eyes were looking all over at all the new & interesting thigs. The seat opening was a lot smaller than the exersaucer which was PERFECT. It made my girls feel more secure & snug and I didnt have to use pillows or blankets around them. We did have to pile up some pillows under their feet in order for them to touch.
At first they didn't know how to jump and occasionally they'd get excited and accidently jump and look excited. Have your camcorder ready because these are some very cute moments that you are going to want to capture. From that day on my girls have been in these everyday & LOVE them. With the jumperoo they can easily jump or bounce and it spins very easily. With the exersaucer all they can do is spin which seemed harder to turn and then can tilt which I think would make smaller babies feel like they were going to fall, they also won't get as much exercise in the exersaucer.
The seats are soft and very durable. I've washed them many times in the washer and they still look brand new. The attached toys are also very easy to clean and I actually didn't think they looked too entertaining but my girls have always loved them. Sometimes they jump all around like crazy, sometimes they just chill & play with the toys & other times they just sit & watch TV or eachother. It is really funny if you have twins because you can see them mirror eachother in these, one does something & the other will follow suit.
These are one of the items we've definately gotten our money out of and I consider a MUST HAVE. It gives me some free time while keeping them entertained & happy & SAFE! It also gives them exercise.
Also sometimes one of my daughters really gets this thing rocking back and forth & she slams into the poles but this is a very sturdy & safe toy, it has never even once came close to tipping and she has definately tested its limits.
One of my girls is now 20lbs so we've only got 5lbs more before she outgrows this. That is going to be a sad day considering how mucht they love them and they are part of our daily routine. I am going to have a difficult time finding anything even comparable to how wonderful this is.
Customer Review: Baby and mom's favorite toy! Summary: 5 Stars
I really wasn't sure if my 4-month-old would like this; he seems to hate everything. He's a VERY cranky baby unless entertained by mommy or daddy. I can't get anything done with him! But this turned out to be one of the best toy purchases I've ever made for him.
Set-up was very easy and the directions were very straight-forward, though I pretty much only used them for quick reference. I love that assembly is snap-together. You only need a screwdriver to put the batteries (3 AA) in. Once it's assembled, it's big and a little bit of a pain to move but our apartment is really tiny so there's really no need to move it from it's spot in the living room. This may be an issue for others, though. Getting the baby in can be an event but I personally find it much easier to have the seat pad sticking straight up and it does that for you by itself when you pull your little one out.
At first, he wasn't sure what to make of all of it and just kind of stared at the lights on the musical toy, which plays very cute music and animal souds in two volumes and two different settings. Pretty soon, he figured out how to spin the little doo-dad on it and was so excited that he could make it turn on. And of course, when little ones get excited, those little legs get a-goin' and he soon discovered the joy of bouncing. I don't think I've ever seen him laugh harder. The racket it makes when it bounces is a little annoying but as long as it makes my baby happy, I don't mind. Right now, he's not much for spinning in the seat so the lizzard and tiger toys have gone ignored for the most part but what he can get his hands on, he loves. He also likes to look up at the stuffed leaf toys.
There is one toy that may be a real dud for some kids. There's a little bug on a stem that I'm guessing is supposed to stand up, but it just hangs limp. This was quickly turned into something fun, however, by taking it out of it's slot (this can be done by simply pinching the two plastic tabs on the yellow base) and just handing it to him to play with. It must feel really good on his gums because he just loves to gnaw away on it and look at the high-contrasting black polka-dots on the white wings. It's too bad they didn't stuff cellophane in the wings. He loves crinkly stuff.
Not all kids will end up loving this little gem but mine sure does! I can put him down and FINALLY begin the horrid process of cleaning my house which has been neglected for 4 months. That I don't have an excuse anymore is pretty much my only complaint.
Customer Review: Great for even wobbly sitters! Summary: 5 Stars
I started using the rainforest jumparoo with my little man when he was roughly three and a half months old. At the time, he was fairly stable sitting up with support, but still had the bobble-head thing going on. He was, however, old enough that he wanted to be upright and had begun getting frustrated when in his swing or bouncy seat for more than 10 minutes.
I was pleasantly surprised at how deep the seat on the jumparoo is so it provides much more support and stability than I expected for my bobbly-headed little guy. It also has tons of activities that even my three and a half month old was able to instantly appreciate. It took him three or four times in it before he figured out how to bounce, but within two weeks he was a pro jumper! Now he jumps and laughs. He loves to be in it while I play music. It's a great way to occupy him while I clean the house because if he starts getting fussy all I have to do is dance a little in front of him and he starts jumping and is amused for another 15 minutes or more!
The only complaint I have, which isn't worth marking down the review for, is that it is hard to get his little legs into it. I've found a trick, though. When you pull the baby out, it pulls the cloth seat inside-out. I've figured out that leaving the seat inside-out while I put his feet through the holes and then lowering him down into position works much better than fighting his kicky little feet into the holes when it's in place.
My son is now 6 months old and still loves his jumparoo! This has really grown with him. We have moved the seat up a notch now because our little guy has long legs, but he has only discovered the frog and bird hanging up high within the last month. He also has only recently figured out how to successfully spin the color dial and the lizard rattle. He still is incredibly amused by his jumparoo, which is saying a lot. Not many baby items have a life span of greater than 3 months, but this one does.
I finally retired the jumparoo and stored it away when my son was almost a year old. He was still totally entertained by it even for long periods of time, but he was close to the weight limit and he was so tall at that point that he couldn't effectively jump without the saucer slamming down. I am so happy that he got so much use of of this item and I am definitely keeping it for baby #2!
Customer Review: Buy it young! Summary: 5 Stars
We bought this for our son when he was a little over 4 months old and we are soooo glad that we did! Our son was pretty big for his age at over 26 inches tall and 21 lbs (he was 9.2 at birth). That being said, the biggest factor for this is making sure that your child is tall enough for his/her toes to touch the ground when they are in it and that they have good head control.
At four months our son loved this because he could stand up on his own, use his new found motor skills to reach out and grab one of the toys, and the biggest thing - see the world around him. If you have a frustrated infant who hates that he can't see everything around him than this is the toy for you!
By five months we had figured out jumping, but not big ones, more or less little jumping wiggles that made us happy with lots of smiles. We could play with all the toys and were fascinated by all the colors that lit up on the front toy module.
By six months we were a jumping pro. As hard as he jumped we have not seen any wear on this toy. My husband and I would laugh at him and he would jump even harder and scream in delight! He'd mastered spinning around in the seat to see what was going on behind him or to just follow the direction that his dog or sibling was going. Kind of the master of his own domain sort of thing.
By seven months he'd learned that he could reach up and grab at the little hanging frog and bird. There wasn't much jumping going on any more because he was just too tall at a hair over 30 inches, even with it set to the maximum setting. Still he enjoyed it. He like all the noises it made, how the toys spun around, and that he could see the whole world around him.
Now as we are reaching the 8 month mark it is losing it's charm. He'd prefer to be mobile, crawling to whatever he wants, and not being restrained by his Jumperoo. I have found that we can use it as a core building toy if I stand him up (which he LOVES) and let him grab/hang on to the front. I of course stay there with him, ready to catch him if he falls. But - he enjoys seeing his toy from a different angle and at the same time has to work on his balancing skills.
Overall - it is a great toy. Provides hours of entertainment - but I would buy it young. If you buy it at 7-8 months you might find that your child only uses it for a month before he/she moves on to more mobile entertainment!
