Baby Products Reviews of Fisher-Price Rainforest Healthy Care Booster Seat

Customer Review: Ideal for Grandma's House, Smaller Homes, and Travelling...
Summary: 4 Stars

The Rain Forest Healthy Care Booster Seat is an ideal product for Grandma's house, for those with smaller homes and limited space for baby items, and for travelling. It can be used on most full-sized dining chairs and can be left in place, if necessary, so that storage does not become an problem.

This is an excellent item for individuals who need to have a highchair handy for grandchildren or visitors, but who do not want a full-sized highchair taking up valuable living space. Individuals living in apartments or smaller homes, and who have a small to average sized infant may find it useful as a space saver. Those who frequently visit friends and want to have a highchair available for feeding will find this very portable and easy to attach and detach from a regularly sized dining room or kitchen chair.

The drawbacks associated with the booster seat are several. Larger children may not be able to use this product for any extended period of time. A 21 pound, 28 inch tall infant has about 1 inch clearance between the tray and himself when the tray is in the most forward position. He is six months old and this is the first time that he has been able to use the chair. The chair is not particularly sturdy, although I do not think it would qualify as being flimsy. The tray snaps onto a protruding button and pulls off; a larger, older toddler might easily be able to disengage the tray. Finally, this is somewhat expensive when evaluated against its useful life. Those who have the room for a larger, regularly designed highchair would be advised to go that route.

All in all, the Rainforest Booster seat is a good product and has valuable uses in certain circumstances.

Customer Review: Love it!
Summary: 5 Stars

I got this when my daughter started having solids at 6 months old and she still uses it at 2 1/2 years. I did have to pad the chair with blankets when she was 6 months old to keep her from slumping. At 2 1/2, she is 29 lbs and 34 inches and sits comfortably in it. I can see her using it for a lot longer as a booster chair as well. It is definitely not small as one reviewer mentioned. Of course, all that depends on each child. It is very well made and has been with us on many trips, both domestic and international. My daughter has several allergies so this chair goes everywhere with us. The toy insert keeps younger babies occupied and is cute. The only problem I found with the toy insert was the paper stickers that started peeling off with continued use and washing.

pros: well made, good quality
grows with baby (adjustable table and height and chair back can be removed)
easy to clean (just wipe chair with clorox wipes, table can be put in dishwasher or easily hand washed)
easy to use while holding baby in one hand
light and easy to travel with
fits on most chairs
toy insert keeps baby busy

cons: paper stickers peel off with continued washing
straps tend to get gunky, especially if you have a very messy baby (think chicken puree everywhere)...not a huge problem though since you can just take out the straps and wash them. I let them sit in a cup of vinegar for a while before rinsing them out, takes care of both stains and smells!

Customer Review: Great Booster seat
Summary: 4 Stars

This is a great booster seat.

Would have given 5 stars if it werent for the premium price we paid for the rainforest toy attachment.
The toy attachment is a waste - kid wouldnt play with it.
And its no fault of the kid - he likes toys making music.

There is not a peep from the toy attachment, a parrot that wobbles when you pull on it, bananas and a monkey that slide left and right; and a tree at the center that rotates (yeah, there are two frogs on the floor that slide left to right too - dont care much about them myself, so how would the kid?).

So my short note to Fisher-Price: Add some music / lights to the toy attachment.

We have just pulled out the toy attachment and use other toys instead.

My recommendation: Get a Fisher-Price booster without the toy attachment and save some dough.

PS: This was our kids first booster seat. At first when the kid wouldnt sit on it for more than a minute we thought he does not like the seat, etc. But when we noticed that he liked to play with other toys sitting on it - we realized it was the toy attachment he did not like. Yanking it out and putting a different toy in its place made it all ok.

Customer Review: Great for use as a high chair replacement!
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this booster seat for my now 5 month old son (he was about 4 months old at time of purchase). We have limited space in our trailer, so I worried about getting a bulky high chair that might get in the way. This booster seat works great, is easy to wipe the tray clean, and it looks like my son enjoys it. We bought it also for the rainforest theme toy tray that comes with it, to help keep him busy, but he doesn't seem to enjoy the toys much yet (at least not at this age). Instead, we give him toys such as teething rings and crinkly cloth books to play with to keep him busy (though he repeatedly keeps dropping or throwing them onto the floor, lol). When he gets put into his booster seat, though, he knows it's either food time, play time, or video time (we watch baby sign language shows with him), so his eyes immediately light up! I don't think there's really any bad I can say about the booster seat yet... so far, it's been working to our expectations. I would definitely consider purchasing this again if I ever needed a second one or to replace the one I have now. I'm so glad we were able to get something so compact and portable instead of a bulky high chair!

Customer Review: Had this for three years, still in GREAT shape!
Summary: 5 Stars

This has been a great alternative to a high chair. The tray is a nice small size, and is easy to clean in the dishwasher. The toys are entertaining for her and keep her busy when we need the option. There are three settings for how close the tray is to the body. My 8 month old baby needs the middle setting, so I know there is some room to grow. The only two cons that I have found are:
1. The "snap in" tray of toys goes in easily, but you have to pull quite hard on the side plastic to get it out.
2. The tray is very close to my child's legs, so I am wondering how long it will be before she outgrows it in THAT direction.

Overall, I highly recommend this product, we are very happy with it.

UPDATE DEC 2010. It's almost 2.5 years later, and we STILL use this booster seat. I love it. My little girl is now 3 years old and still fits in it. We pretty much don't use the toys (but will with our next baby). We still love the thing. Nothing has broken, so I have to say it's well made!
