Baby Products Reviews of Fisher-Price Rainforest BouncerCustomer Review: Bouncer AND feeding chair! Summary: 5 Stars
I got a used one off Craiglist for half the price and my daughter is now 6 months old and she's still loves it! Around 2-3 months of age, she would sit in it and just stare at the lights and moving parts, even managing to fall asleep long enough to give me a chance to do things around the house. The vibrating feature is great as well. At about 4-5 months, she didn't like sitting in the bouncer all that much. I think it was due to the fact that she weighed more, and she was basically laying flatter on the bouncer, unable to reach the monkey and parrot toy that is hanging from the arch. Now I have the back part of the bouncer propped up against the edge of the sofa so she is more upright and she grabs at the hanging toys. If not propped up, she wouldn't be able to grab them. Additionally, I place her in the bouncer for solid feeding as she's still a bit wobbly to sit in a high chair/booster. All in all, I love this bouncer, but note that at 17.5 pounds, she is practically horizontal in the bouncer when the back is not propped up against something. And remember to put belts around your little ones once they're sort of mobile...they will slide off of that thing!
Customer Review: Great little bouncer! Summary: 5 Stars
This bouncer works great for us. Our son is huge for his age - 15lbs and 25 inches at 2.5 months! This presents an interesting conundrum for us since most of his weight/height group are using older baby toys since he's about the size of a 5-6 month old, yet he lacks the head and arm control that is standard for a 2-3 month old. This bouncer has two modes though, one that you can set for the little rain forest scene to play over and over again regardless of the baby being able to grab the dangling items to trigger it, or of course the other mode where your baby can kick and grab the little dangling parrot and monkey and then set the waterfall action off by him/herself. It keeps our son entertained for all of 15-20 minutes, not necessarily long - but perfect when you need to wash some bottles or fold a load of diapers. It is very stimulating, not necessarily something you'd want to use when you are trying to get your little one to calm down for the night or for a nap. And last, the batteries. It takes 4 D's - but we've found that we've never had to replace ours yet. We've had it for about a month now and they don't seem to be giving out any time soon.
Customer Review: Works great for my newborn Summary: 5 Stars
My newborn is 5 weeks old and we have been using this chair since day one. I originally hadn't planned on buying it because I didn't think it was a necessary baby item - but I'm so glad that I did. It is the only thing that will calm him down when he is crying. It helps him get calm enough to sleep. Once he's calm, we just move him to the crib and he's sound asleep.
It's hard to get him in and out of the chair when the arch is attached to the seat, but we've now taken the arch off in order to get him in and out. He hasn't played much with the toys attached to the arch, so it works better for us just to have the arch off. When we do put it back on, it's quite easy to do.
Sometimes, the vibrating of the chair alone doesn't calm him down. Luckily, the seat is easy to rock with one hand while it's vibrating. He will usually calm down within 5 minutes of when we start rocking the chair, if not a lot sooner.
The batteries we bought lasted about 4 weeks and that was with constant use of the chair. We were very happy with this, as we expected the batteries to die much quicker. It uses D batteries.
Customer Review: Science at 3 months! Summary: 5 Stars
I love this bouncer! Not only does it vibrate, but it also helps the baby practice hand-eye coordination AND cause and effect (that's right, science at 3 months). I love watching the huge smiles my babies give when they hit the animals and the waterfall lights up. They smile and talk to the animals. Their arms and legs are constantly moving (great baby exercise). Other great features: very light and easily portable, and can be adjusted to have the baby lay more or less upright (depending upon your preference). We also use this to help with digestion. After the babies eat, we need to keep them upright for about 15 minutes before putting them down for their nap; this bouncer allows the baby to be upright and have the vibrating motion help ease out any latent bubbles (while we get their swaddles ready and make sure their humidifer is filled). We went to Babies R Us to get a similar one, so that the twins have variety. However, to our disappointment the other bouncers did not offer the same level of action-reaction toys on the bouncer. Most of the other bouncers had just stuffed animals that hang from a bar (how boring).
Customer Review: Provides Mom with lots of hands free time and keeps baby happy Summary: 4 Stars
I use this bouncer all the time for my 2 month old son, this is my first child, at first he didn't care for the activity bar part, most likely because he's too young, but he's noticing it now and swatting at the parrot to make the lights and sounds go off.
He'll sit quietly in this bouncer without the activity bar for up to an hour at a time, even with the vibration off. I don't know if he likes the vibration as there's no reaction from him whether it's on or off, he has fallen asleep with it on though so maybe he does like it?
He loves to sit and watch the tv in the bouncer. I can bring it room to room which is great so I can get chores done, and keep an eye on him. I like that you can set it to only light up and play sounds when he makes it move.
The only really negative thing to me about this bouncer is that the activity bar is difficult to pull out. My son can get really upset with it there, I've gone to remove it and have to pull so hard that one end came flying out and almost hit him, I think it should slide out easily once you have the clips pulled back to release it.
