Baby Products Reviews of Fisher-Price Precious Planet Whale of a TubCustomer Review: Great Infant Tub to use Post-Puj Summary: 5 Stars
My baby is about 5 months old. I used the Puj Tub (which is great!)up until he weighed about 14 lbs. After that the Puj couldn't hold him up as well and would cave-in. Also, he was old enough to want to play with toys and splash, which he couldn't do in the Puj. So I started to use the tub the hospital gave us, but the baby would slip around. The bump between the legs wasn't big enough for me to feel comfortable the baby wouldn't slip under water. I had to use it on the counter and dump water in and out of it myself because it was too awkward to hold him with the tub in a normal adult bathtub. It was annoying and difficult to keep the water the right temperature and if he went to the bathroom or spit up, it was extra hard to deal with. I got the whale tub and it is great. The rubber part on the back keeps him from sliding and the leg ledge really keeps the baby from sliding forward. I can place this in the adult tub without having to hold him in place the whole time (I still keep close, obviously). The basin is big enough for him to kick around and for toys to float in. He can also sit up in the basin when he doesn't want to lay. This is a good next step to the Puj, which is exactly what I was looking for.
Customer Review: picky mom fully satisfied Summary: 5 Stars
This is one of those items that most people are going to review without having used an alternate product. That's true for me as well. But I can say this: I'm one of those new moms who scoured reviews and Consumer Reports to pick what to register for. I'd picked another tub that looked more sophisticated I guess, then ending up registering for this one since it was available at a certain store where it seemed ALL of my shower guests wanted to shop. And I've been totally happy with it.
It's worked great for our baby since the time the cord fell off and he was allowed to get wet. And it seems like it will grow with him well. The green insert that he sits on is smart; it comes out to make room for a growing toddler. The little whale shaped cup that comes with it is a cute bonus. It has holes to sprinkle; that's a little annoying now if I want to use it to rinse him, but will be fun later as he learns to play with it.
Our baby feels secure and enjoys baths, I feel he's safe in it (always supervised of course!), we've had no issues with it staying clean, the holds water and then drains well, no issues with the legs being sturdy... all in all, can't think of anything I'd change.
Customer Review: Love it! Summary: 5 Stars
I got this tub for my 5 1/2 month old when he outgrew his Puj tub and baths in the kitchen sink just weren't working out. My son is almost sitting up unassisted, so we went ahead and removed the green infant seat. My only issue with this tub is that the bottom, while not extremely slippery, is not non-skid enough when he decides to flail backwards and lose his balance. It's still WAY less slippery than my tub floor or the kitchen sink, so I wouldn't deduct any stars from the rating. We place a towel under his bottom right now, and I'm very confident that when he has greater control in a few months, this won't even be an issue. The manufacturer doesn't recommend using the tub without the seat anyway until they can sit up completely unassisted.
I love the soft foam back. I can lean my child back to wash his hair and he seems pretty comfortable. I think the tub is a wonderful size and depth as well. I plan to use it for at least another year, or until he grows too big for it, just to cut down on how much water we use at bathtime.
I haven't used it as an infant tub, so I can't comment on the ease of use there, but I highly recommend it as an older baby/toddler tub!
Customer Review: Buy this tub! Summary: 5 Stars
This is the best tub there is. Hands down. We have tried other tubs at the grandparents' houses and this one is still the winner. The best part is the little seat. Even as a newborn, my daughter was able to "sit" on the seat. This meant I had two hands free to wash with. I never once worried about her kicking and moving around. With other tubs I was constantly grabbing her because she'd move a certain way and slide dangerously close to underwater. Obviously you can't leave you child unattended, but it does provide some piece of mind. Or at least less panic-inducing moments. This works great in our kitchen sink, and since there is no sling, she doesn't get cold. The little seat comes out when they get bigger too, so you can use this instead of filling the regular tub. But at that point, it's a little more fun to use the real bathtub anyways.
The only bad thing about this tub is that the sides aren't very high so if you have a splasher (we do) then you're probably going to get wet. Meh, our kitchen could use a cleaning anyways.
If you are shopping for a tub for a newborn, you should definitely go with this one.
Customer Review: Fun and Useful Baby Tub Summary: 5 Stars
I did tons of research trying to find the right type of seat or tub to bath my 4 1/2 month old boy who is starting to sit up and cannot lay down in the hammock style bather anymore. I tried a seat and it was not safe, he could move too much and I always had to have both hands on him leaving none to wash him with.
This tub is awesome and my baby boy loves it so much. My boy is not sitting up by himself yet so he is using the infant side still and is having so much fun. He loves that he can kick his feet in it and splash around.
It does not take very much water to fill it up yet it is still enough to bath him and let him play in it.
I was a little worried about the size as we do not have much space and really no where to store it but there is this very convenient little hole placed in it and you can use a small hook and hang it easily. We have it at one end of the shower and there is still plenty of room for us to bathe and it is not in our way.
Extremely suprised by how wonderful this cute little functional bath tub is.
