We've had this since our son was 3 months old. At first, he would use this as a kick toy in his pack and play when he couldn't sit up. Then we used it as a tummy time toy, which is when he really got interested in it.
He's 6 months old now and this has to be his favorite toy of the moment. He sits up and smashes the keys, and the sun and bird blinking lights keep him in awe. I love that you can alternate between the two different settings (continuous music, or free style).
On the free style setting you can push whatever keys you want and keep pushing them, or after a few seconds pause between a push it will play a little ditty and then make an animal sound. One amusing thing is you can play songs on it for your baby. For example Ode to Joy, but you have to be really fast or it will play the ditty instead.
On the continuous setting it will play longer songs. Be warned the music will change mid-song if a key is pushed, which may drive you nuts when they're pushing the keys constantly(think of it sounding like someone flipping through radio stations). It's a great way to learn cause and effect though, so it doesn't bother me.
It's lightweight enough that he drags it along everywhere with him now and our little maestro loves playing with it from different positions. I've seen him sitting up to play it, as well as on his belly so it's great for all stages. I've also seen him sit on it to play it, LOL. It's extremely durable, and it's easy to wipe clean with a cloth.
The only thing I am not fond of is the ties for crib use dangle loose. I wish there was a slip cover or something where you could remove them when you're done using it for a crib. It has four ties on the back to tie around crib slats. They're short ties, and I've tied them into small bows to keep our little nibbler from nibbling for now. The piano may not tie to all cribs.
Bottom line is I highly recommend it, it's a great toy. If your baby doesn't like it at first when they're a kicker, try it for tummy time and sitting up.
