Baby Products Reviews of Fisher-Price Precious Planet Froggy Friend PottyCustomer Review: Awkward & Frustrating Summary: 2 Stars
This is the first potty chair that we've tried & we are definitely going to need to buy a different one. I'll tell you why:
My daughter was 18 months old when she first began to show an interest in the potty. I found this potty & showed it to her while at the store and she wanted to sit on it right away! (I had to help her.) Then she carried it around the store by it's handle & told everyone she saw, "Potty! Potty chair!" Green is seemingly her favorite color & she likes frogs, so I thought, well sweet! She loves it!! And to a degree, she still does love it. She loves the look & idea of it, anyway.
We have the DVD "Once Upon a Potty For Her" which my daughter absolutely LOVES & she likes to sit on her potty while she watches the DVD. However it is difficult for her to sit on!! She has to spread her legs very wide then back up on to it, something she eventually figured out, but will time & again forget & ends up getting frustrated because she can't get on by herself. She will end up with one foot or both feet inside the potty or she'll tip it over & fall down trying to figure it out. We need a potty where she is able to sit on it all by herself whenever she needs to go, without difficulty, not rely on me or anyone else to have to set her on her potty for her. There is no time for a toddler to be fiddling with trying to figure out how to get on the potty chair when they gotta go, and having to place your child on the potty will take away independence. This is supposed to be fun for her! I don't like to see her get frustrated & I do not want any negative feelings connected with potty training, if I can help it. Potty training is a big enough hurdle as it is, the potty chair itself should not be an obstacle!
Another huge complaint for my personal situation is the removable blue part of the seat. It's supposed to make it easy to clean, you can just pick it up & dump it, but for me all it does is cause a potential disaster because my daughter does NOT want it on her potty chair when she sits on it!! I try to get her to sit on her chair, and she complies, but ONLY after she's taken out the inside potty catcher!! So therefore when she finally does go, the pee & poop will end up straight on the floor. After getting familiar with the chair for several weeks however, she seems to be getting over her need to take out the potty catcher. She has actually gone #2 twice in the chair, blue potty catcher intact. (I had to set her quickly onto the seat both times.)
The chair may not be the most comfortable, even after she does get on it. After she sat naked on this potty for about 20 minutes straight, she had a painful looking red indent all around her hiney & upper legs. This doesn't happen with quick sits.
If you can get your child to keep the seat together & if they're perhaps much bigger & can maneuver around the big eyes & if they never sit on it for very long, then I'd say this could be a good seat, but it doesn't work well for us! It was only $5 at my local mom's trade-in shop so I'll just keep it to let her set her baby dolls on for potty training role-play. It'd also be fine for a secondary seat in the house to use, as long as I'm right there & she doesn't mind me helping her to quickly get on, and she goes fairly quickly.
