Baby Products Reviews of Fisher-Price Papasan Cradle Swing, StarlightCustomer Review: As Usual With Fisher Price, It's Hit or Miss Summary: 5 Stars
We recently bought this swing for our two month old daughter because she would not nap anywhere but her Fisher Price Soothing Motions Glider, which we keep upstairs. I figured this swing looked like something she would like since it has the same motion and basic seat setup...and yep, she loves it!
I also wanted this particular model because it can be powered with the AC adapter and I love that I don't need ten thousand D batteries to run the thing!
I've read others' reviews and it seems like this is the typical FP product- after three kids, I know how they work. They make fun, affordable and innovative baby gear that SOMETIMES works and OFTEN does not. We got lucky this time and got a working swing...sounds like others didn't have the same luck.
In spite of the usual FP inconsistent quality control issues, I'd say this is the best swing for your buck- the seat is plush and comfortable, even for tiny ones; the starlight effect is beautiful and calming; the mobile is soothing and interesting to my child and the AC power feature is the best. The $20 extra you pay for this swing upfront will MORE than pay you back in the money you'll save buying expensive D batteries to power this thing over the 8-10 months you'll use it!
Customer Review: Sad day for baby Summary: 3 Stars
I bought this swing for my daughter who is now 2 months old. I was really excited because you can plug this swing in rather than use thousands of batteries! I didn't like the fact however that the lights/ mobile shuts off on it's own. Although I assume that is to make this swing last longer. I had the ocean themed swing for my son and the globe burned out around 4 months since he loved that swing so much. Aside from that, this swing is pretty amazing and my daughter loved it.
HOWEVER: I wanted to warn those that leave it plugged in all the time like I did. We had a really bad storm recently and the power went out. When it came back on a couple seconds later the swing was dead. So now I would recommend this swing for people wanting to have a cradle swing.. just not to leave it plugged in all the time.. and if a storm is coming then they should unplug it right away to save it.
I don't think I will re-buy this swing since she didn't care much for the neck support lately. I had actually planned on cutting it off and trying to find something to help her sit up better. But if you are looking for a swing that your baby can lay in, this is an amazing CRADLE swing. Not all that great for baby as they get more active though.
Customer Review: Fantastic Swing at an Excellent Price! Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased the Starlight Papasan Cradle Swing from Fisher-Price. We are currently stationed in Germany and while this isn't included in the product information, THIS SWING IS DUAL VOLTAGE! It has an a/c adapter and a place for batteries. I assembled it by myself in under 30 minutes while my husband was in the field. The swing itself is noisy-ish, but the repetition is just as soothing to my 2 month old as the sounds/music. The volume control has a wide range (and the loudest setting is LOUD!) and the sounds soothe me! There are two types of music, classical and nursery rhymes. They sound very similar to the Fisher Price crib aquarium thingy. In other words, very childish. The swing has a lot of settings but the lowest sets my 11lb kiddo really flying. There are two switches for the mobile; mobile only or
mobile and stars. We got this gender neutral model because it was $45.00 cheaper than the other girly models in stock. That plus free shipping, add in the dual voltage, the fact that it plugs into the wall and saves on batteries, the various settings, the cradle and swing motion, and that my baby gets so excited about the lit, spinning stars and this baby is a keeper.
Customer Review: Happy Again The 2nd Time Around Summary: 5 Stars
We bought our 1st Fisher-Price cradle swing 2 years ago for our daughter (5th child) and it changed our lives. Many of our kids have been colicky as babies and my wife ended up putting our babies in bed with her but with the swing she was able to put them in there and they would sleep through most of the night. Our daughter slept in that swing for over 1 year until she grew out of it. The swing still worked after 1 year and heavy use for the night and her naps. It finally stopped working but we still use the music for "white" noise that helps our daughter, who is now 2, to sleep through the night. Now our last child was just born a little over a week ago and we bought our 2nd Fisher Price swing. He is already sleeping around 4hrs straight in his new swing and we couldn't be happier. We specifically chose this one because it has the option of plugging it in or using batteries. We knew we would be using this all through the night and did not want to buy batteries every time we went to the store. It was well worth the investment so my wife can get a good nights sleep. We are very happy the 2nd time around and strongly recommend this swing to others.
Customer Review: pretty good swing Summary: 1 Stars
--have had this swing for 6 months---i am a bit disappointed in the swing, but its also been a good swing in some aspects. After only 2 months in use, there are little 'picks' fuzzies all over the fabric and they are very rough and scratchy so I have to continually remove them. the tray is WORHTLESS! I cannot even hardly get it on or off, the snap is ridiculous so we don't even use the tray at all. I wish it had more songs, it seems they are mainly outdoor sounds. the pillow does NOT come off and it propped my babys head at an odd angle, chin to chest, so i try and move the pillow and i usually have the pillow rested ON her head since it isnt removable( she didnt notice, was resting on TOP of her head lol). this swing is pricey and have somme bad design. i am about to purchase another swing, that sits baby more upright and acually has a tray we can use from cosco or something around $50 bucks that to me, is more worth our money NOW, since she is 6 months old and ready to not lay almost flat all the tim like she does in this swing. but i got THIS swing because it plugs in to the wall which is GREAT
