Baby Products Reviews of Fisher-Price Papasan Cradle Swing, StarlightCustomer Review: Starlight Papasan Review Summary: 2 Stars
We received a used Fisher Price Aquarium Swing as a gift. Our baby liked it, but the music didn't work and the mobile wouldn't spin sometimes. Also, it was eating batteries and we saw that was going to get expensive! So, after much research, we decided on the Starlight Papasan swing because it plugged in and had the neat little light show. I ordered this from another retailer (walmart.com). I was so excited for it to arrive. My husband put it together and we placed our daughter in and turned it to high, just like we always do with our other swing. It BARELY moved and she's only 10lbs. It's about half the speed of our Aquarium swing. The swing did not have 6 speeds, it had one slow speed. My daughter cried in it (she likes to go fast, little speed demon)! Thinking I had got a bad one, I returned it and ordered another just to go through the whole process again. I read reviews on here about the high speed being scary and maybe Fisher Price got a lot of complaints and they changed something. That is all I can figure.
Also, here are some other negatives:
*It's pretty ugly. It's not as neutral as it looks online and it's purple. (Would have gladly overlooked this if it had worked)
*I actually don't like the attached pillow. No matter how I positioned my daughter it seemed to push her chin even more to her chest, which is scary because that can restrict little one's airway!
We're really at a loss now as to which swing to purchase next. We wish that our Aquarium swing plugged in!
Customer Review: Fantastic to get baby to sleep Summary: 4 Stars
My son and daughter-in-law had the cradle swing with lambs ears. It used batteries and they finally got rechargeable ones since they use this all the time. When I bought this cradle swing I wanted it to plug in, which not very many do. The first time I used it the swing it would not keep swinging. I called Matel that day and they sent me out a new motor. I thought all was good until I tried to use the mobile with the light. It made a clunking noise like it was stripping gears. I called again and put the phone to the cradle. The operator said to remove the draping and see if it still made the noise, it did. So she ordered to send still another motor or refund my money. Since my granddaughter LOVES to sleep in this swing I said to send another motor. When we get the mobile to work it will be perfect! Very east to put together. I like this model because it is made of cotton with a velour like material for the pillow. My son's is all plush and she gets hot in it. His swing motor stopped after 3 months and they are sending him a new motor. Mine stopped after the first use on the first motor. It swungs great now except I can't use the mobile but can use the music and sounds. We have had problems but we would highly recommend this swing with the plugin. At least the company backs up their product which is hard to find these days. The color is a purplish blue check at the bottom of the drape and the cradle print is light peach and ivory. Could be used for either sex.
Customer Review: Love this swing! Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this swing after much research into other types of cradle swings. I bought it with specific intention of getting my then 9 week old son to sleep on his own (not in my bed).
I love this swing! My son would not sleep anywhere but with me. I got it home and promptly set it up (set up is easy as long as you read the directions). I put him in the swing and turned on all the features. He fell asleep after about 10 minutes! He seems very comfortable snuggled into the cradled seat and he enjoys the swinging motion along with the sounds and lights.
I have used the swing everyday for naps and bedtime for the past 5 weeks and he still loves it. I have had no problems at all with any of the features not working properly. We do tend to turn everything off after he has been asleep for about 15 minutes though. We don't generally leave it going for hours, though there have been a few times when I fell asleep before turning it off and still no issues. We also leave it stationary and have had no issues with the stability (of course you do have to make sure the legs are set properly - common sense to me). The swing motor could be loud for some people, but we honestly don't mind - its just "white noise" to us.
All in all, this swing has been a life saver for us to be able to get our son to sleep and was well worth the money.
Customer Review: Low quality but works wonders Summary: 3 Stars
My son loves the swing. He will sit and stare at the stars and swing swing swing. But this is a piece of junk. The parts are all very cheap, the motor is loud but at least it's a soothing loud (like having a rhythmic washing machine). It really only swings at one speed no matter what setting you have it on. If you put a blanket on your kid the motor cannot keep swinging and eventually just stops. Sometimes you need to give it a good push to get it started in the first place! I only ever use the plug so I can't comment on the batteries only to say that to use them or replace them you need to unscrew a plate to get at them. The lights and music turn off after 6 minutes even when plugged into the wall so if your baby wakes up or was enjoying it you have to keep hitting the reset button.
Customer service is good. I called fisher price to get a new motor and it was easy and no hassle. The new motor did not help, it was just the same as the old one: loud, weak and one speed.
I've had it for two months. It's the only one I've had but from what I saw in stores it looks like they are all built junky so I got this based on the fact that I could plug it in and that it had lights. Most babies love to look at lights - and my son does love it. So since it keeps him from crying I am happy!
Customer Review: OK, but could be better. Summary: 3 Stars
This is a good looking swing. Unfortunately, the look is more for the parent than the child.
This swing does it's job and looks cool but there are a more than a few things I'm disappointed with.
- The power cord is short, so you have to keep the swing near an outlet. You can use batteries, but it doesn't function as well with the batteries. Maybe it's just the one I got, but when powered by brand new batteries, the lights flicker in the mobile.
- The 2 positions are both very reclined - if your baby likes to sit up and look around, this won't do it for them.
- Compared to some other swings, the swing speed is slow - if your baby is soothed by rapid swinging - this won't do.
- The head rest is not removable. Once my son gets a little bigger, I don't know how well he will fit without it being uncomfortable.
- The net is kind of annoying.
- It can be a little difficult/awkward to place the baby in the swing, and take them out with the tray attached because of how the swing is built. I leave the tray off for now.
I think it really comes down to the needs and wants of your child. I don't regret buying it. However, I do think it looks good but is not nearly as functional as one would think.
