Baby Products Reviews of Fisher-Price Papasan Cradle Swing - Nature's Touch N1973Customer Review: Nice swing but has issues Summary: 3 Stars
First of all, I have to say that we have been using this swing with our infant daughter since her birth almost 9 weeks ago and she loves it. It is her favorite place to sleep during the day (it's the only thing she's happy in for long periods of time). It is well padded all around and the pad comes off for easy washing.
The swing is relatively quiet although there is a constant clicking sound. It doesn't bother us and seems to soothe our daughter to sleep. The sounds are pleasant and the mobile has become a point of interest for her at this age. My only gripe about the mobile and sounds are that they stop on their own. I'd rather be the one choosing how long I want it to run. It gets to be a pain to have to constantly go back and turn it on again.
My biggest gripe about this swing and the reason I can only give it three stars is that the swing stops swinging on it's own, even though the motor is still running. Also, I have to swing it manually to get it to start swinging. I can't tell you how many times my sleeping and happy baby wakes up crying because the swing has stopped swinging. It's not a battery problem because it happens even when I have brand new batteries in the swing. Even as I write this review I've had to restart the swing twice. I don't know if mine is defective or if other people have had this issue as well, but it's incredibly frustrating for a swing that I've paid good money for.
I still recommend this swing, however I would save the packaging for a month or two (unfortunately I didn't) in case you have the same issues and need to make a return or exchange.
Customer Review: The perfect recline in a swing...finally! Summary: 4 Stars
I went through 2 swings before I came across this one. The 1st two sat too upright for an infant. This swing reclines perfectly for the smaller infant and is so cozy and comfy. And the cradle swing option is perfect. My daughter had mild reflux and so she napped in this the majority of the time up until about 3 or 4 mos. It may be a bit pricier than most swings but it is worth every penny. The only 2 drawbacks of this swing are the so-called mobile, which is pretty boring, and the fact that the tray must be removed entirely to remove baby. The mobile is essentially some small, fabric leaves and insects (albeit cute ones) that rotate while it revolves. And it makes a mechanical sound while doing so. The mirror in the center is nice, though, and my daughter enjoyed looking at herself. I wish the tray flipped or swung out of the way to remove baby. I'd end up setting it on the floor, removing baby, placing tray in the seat because I couldn't reattach the tray with baby in arms and then having to pick the tray up out of the seat when placing baby back in the swing at a later time. I know it sounds trivial, but doing so repeatedly throughout the day gets annoying. The seat pad is easy to remove and replace for washing and holds up nicely after being washed. It is fairly easy to move from room to room because the legs fold together and I've even moved it with one hand (but it is a bit heavy). I think it did well on batteries, too, because our daughter napped in this 3 times a day and I changed the batteries about once a month. Despite the 2 minor complaints, I still love this swing and so did our daughter!
Customer Review: great swing Summary: 5 Stars
i bought this swing when my son was a few weeks old. i liked that it swings from side to side, which seems more natural for a baby. my son loved it and still, at over 6 months old, loves to take his daytime naps in it and watch himself in the mirror.
it does have a few drawbacks though which can easily be solved:
- as comfy as it looks, the padding is really thin under the baby. i just added a doll foam mattress underneath and it is very cozy now.
- it swings very fast for a newborn, even on the lowest setting. i tried adding some weight to the swing but later read in the instruction manual you just have to add a blanket with the sides hanging down. this is not an issue anynore now that he is 15 lb.
- first, we only had to change the batteries every month (while it was in use for a average of 3 hours a day). then, when my son reached 15 lb, it was less and less efficent, to the point that we bought rechargeable batteries and had to charge them every day! i contacted Fisher Price (Toys are us did not want to deal with it) and they offered right away to send me a new motor unit (the top part) at no charge. they also offered to give me a full refund if i sent the seat back (but i would have had to pay for shipping).
now, my son is 6 months old and the swing is like new again (it actually makes less noise than the first motor unit). the batteries last 2 weeks average for a daily use of 2 to 3 hours.
i have to admit i was lost when it quit working. it is such a great invention to keep babies and moms happy!
Laurie.
Customer Review: finally some peace! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this for my daughter the day before she was born. I was torn between this one and the ocean wonders swing. I finally decided on this one becuase it just looked so comfortable. I absolutely love the swing. Whenever she needed a nap and I could not get her down this did the trick. She would sleep in it for 2-3 hours (even if I stopped it from swinging). I also use it a lot because her brother is only 13 months older than her and she sometimes needs a safe place to play while I deal with him.
At first she loved it swinging side to side, but now that she is almost 4 months old she likes it swinging front to back. I like that you can convert it because it allowed me to get more use out of it.
I do agree that the non-removable headrest does sometimes get in the way; especially now that she is getting taller. I wish there was some way to change that. I have yet to try the tray, but wonder how long that will fit with her in the swing because it does look it may crush her legs.
Unlike some of the other reviewers, I have not gone through a lot of batteries. In fact I have only replaced one set so far. I do use it quite a bit, but I try and turn it off once she falls asleep (I have read that they get better sleep when they are not moving).
I plan on holding on to this swing in case my husband changes his mind and agrees to a 4th child. I do not know what I would have done without this swing, especially in the first few months of her birth. It has given me some much deserved peace and even some time to myself. I would reccommend this swing to anybody.
Customer Review: This swing has saved my sanity!!! Summary: 5 Stars
Our daughter was extremely fussy and gassy for the first two months. When the screaming started I would put her in the swing and within minutes she would relax and go to sleep. At times the swing (and baby Bjorn) was the only thing we could do to console her. She of course grew out of her fussy stage but she still loves being in her swing and we still use it everyday.
She is now 4 months old and really gets a kick out of the spinning mobile and mirror above her. She will smile and coo at herself in this swing for hours if we let her. We now only do the swing for 5-10 minutes at a time since it's time for other activities but when she's fussy she wants the swing.
I am thoroughly impressed with this swing and would pay $500 if necessary to have one. The swing itself is very sturdy and the seat itself seems to hug daughter where the other swings almost sit to upright causing their heads to wobble. This comes with a toy bar but we've never actually used it since our daughter is so fascinated with the mobile and mirror. There are different music and nature sound selections that automatically turn off after 7 minutes. This is a turn-off for some but I like it since it saves battery juice! This does swing side-to-side and front-to-back but we've never even used the front-to-back since she's so content with side-to-side.
There isn't anything I don't like about this swing. The only thing I recommend is purchasing the rechargeable D batteries. We replace batteries probably every 5 days or so...
Thank you FP for making such a fantastic swing!!!
