Customer Review: Buy this swing, but be aware...

I would recommend this swing, but be aware what you might be getting yourself in for. First off, my son loves this swing. It is the only thing he'll sleep in. And even though the animals on the mobile face out so that he sees only their feet, he seems to like the mobile. He also likes looking at himself in the mirror. Well, like many other reviewers, the mobile and music quit working within a matter of weeks of owning this swing. I was very upset, as the only way I get to take a shower is to put my son in his swing and turn on the mobile and the music. We bought a crib music/motion toy and attached it to the cloth pocket that hangs between the swing legs. It's nice and he likes it, but it is not the same. My electrician husband has looked at the inner workings of the swing and said it is a piece of junk and not worth anywhere near the price of the swing. But, my son loves it and will sleep in nothing else, so what do you do? We are going to try contacting Fisher-Price and requesting a replacement motor. If that doesn't work, back to the store the swing goes.
As far as the loud ratcheting sound some have complained of, I found that if you separate the legs as FAR apart as they will go, this will take care of that horrible ratcheting sound.
I have had no problems with the swing slowing down as my son got bigger. For reference, my son is 10 weeks old and 14lbs. As of now, the swing is still swinging away; just no mobile or music.
So, buy this swing if you need something motion-based for your child to sleep in, just be prepared to call Fisher-Price for a replacement motor when the mobile and music stops working, and know that you are shelling out MUCH more money than this swing is worth. Oh, and keep the box and the receipt...you'll need them to take the swing back to the store for an exchange.

I loved this swing for several reasons. #1 the options for swinging patterns. #2 The mobile. #3 The mirror. #4 The fabrics #5 The music #6 The volume control on the music. I loved that I could change the way the baby could swing. My first son HATED to swing in the normal front to back pattern so I thought that having the option to swing side-to-side was pretty neat. I'm glad that I chose this swing because my second son also wanted to swing side-to-side. My son also LOVED the mobile he would watch the birds fly around the entire time it would play...I wish that it would have played longer but I can't complain to much it was about 10-15 minutes if memory serves me...it has been a while now. When the mobile would cut off Andrew loved to look at himself in the mirror, he was a little vain but he IS a beautiful baby so who can blame him! :) The fabrics are so soft so it was nice for him to cuddle up in. I can't discuss if it washes well or not as I didn't have to deal with that but the fabrics seem like they would hold up well but that doesn't say much does it? There are also several different music choices and you can control the volume which is nice. The chair adjusts to different heights so that the baby can sit up more or less depending though my son didn't stay in it long enough to worry about adjusting the height. Both of my children seem to lose interest in the swing thing before 6 months but he used it daily before he got tired of it.
I only have two minor complaints. This thing EATS batteries and the mobile broke after about a month. I must say that the customer service guys were great. They sent me a new motor housing and I didn't have a problem again. The customer service was super friendly and helpful and I had the new motor housing within a week. I am very pleased with how the company stood behind their product.

This swing is worth it's weight in gold! We have used it since our daughter was a day old and she has loved every moment she has been in it. She watches the little bugs on the mobile part and the songs and nature sounds put her to sleep every time. It is also nice because the cover is cloth, not vinyl, and it is easily cleaned, and comfortable for her to lay on. The little pillow attached is nice too for a little one who doesn't have head control yet. As she has gotten older she likes to sit up in it and watch her Einstein videos. I actually use it for her naps since it is so comfortable for her, she will sleep for hours in it, plus it is in the area I am in so I don't have to fuss w/monitors and wondering if she is ok in the back of the house. I HIGHLY recommend this swing to everyone!! I would actually give it 6 out of 5 stars. It is also nice because it has a neutral color and pattern so it can be used for both male and female, AND it goes nicely with most home decor. (Unlike a lot of others which are circus colored and look cheesy...)We have never had a problem with it, just make sure that you change out the batteries on it when it starts to go out, because if you don't the music will start to slur and the swing will start to tick, though it just needs new batteries. that's all. (It will run for quite a while on the batteries, we ran it all the time when she was little and it lasted for quite a while.) There is only one little detail that we didn't like...the music only plays for a few minutes and then you have to hit reset for it to start again. We wished that the music would play non-stop until we turned it off, but that is such a minor detail compared to the magic of this swing! It also breaks down easily to transfer to Grandma's house. OK, I'm going to gush. Without this cradle / swing, my husband and I would be zombies. It is soft, cuddly, and totally supportive of our baby's whole body (and by that I mean, it's like a baby hammock in fully reclined mode). Other swings, like a less expensive version I bought and keep at my mom's, leave baby's legs dangling over the edge and he HATES that.
With this swing, it cradles him in hammock mode, or can be turned 90 degrees to regular swing mode. The music is calming and very nice to listen to, not the usual harsh electronic sounding music that many swings have. There are nature sounds that sound totally realistic, like birdies and crickets, and the mobile that spins around the top is very appealing to baby, along with the mirror that he can look up at himself.
Our baby gently nods off in this swing all the time, and even if he fusses some when first put into it, he calms down in minutes and enjoys the swaying motion and sounds.
I can't say enough good things about this swing, except that Fisher Price makes wonderful toys and baby items, I am constantly impressed with the thoughtful touches they put into each product.
In fact, we bought the Ocean Wonders Take-A-Long Swing, and he is entertained by the sweet melodies and lights and sounds of that swing when we go and visit friends and family. Fisher Price products ROCK!
This swing takes 4 D batteries and they last about a month (regular Duracells, the Duracell ultras last about 1 1/2 months), which we think is pretty good power consumption.
We have a long baby, 25" at 3 months, and he still fits in this swing in hammock mode.
Don't skimp and buy a swing that doesn't support baby's WHOLE body, buy this swing and you will see it was worth every penny the first time you use it!

This is definitely the best swing you can get! My 6 week old daughter would not let us put her down for nothing. Sometimes she would even fuss and squirm when we were holding her. The only thing we could do to calm her (before this swing) was to put her in her bouncer seat and bounce her with our foot. We also have a daughter who will be 2 in January. Its hard to chase her around when your stuck sitting in a chair bouncing or holding the baby. Me and my husband have spent SO much money trying to find something the baby would like.
Well, this is it!! Like alot of other parents with reviews on here, she loved it the first time we put her in it. For the first 15 minutes she sat in it and looked around without making a peep. Then she fussed a little but I waited. She fell asleep for 15 more minutes!! A half hour is a big deal for a baby who would only take a 5 or 10 minute nap while being held a couple of times a day! She will now sleep up to 2 hours at a time and we have only had the swing for four days now. She is like a completely different baby now!!
The music and mobile don't stay on for very long but if your baby likes music, get a portable CD player and a pillow speaker. There are pockets in the back of the swing you can put it in.
Its very easy to put together. It only took me 10 minutes once I got it out of the box.
Yes, it swings faster then a lot of other swings. But some babies like that. Ours does. Thats what puts her to sleep. We have 2 other swings and she hates them.
When it comes to the neutral colors, we love them! We have many other colorful baby things for her to enjoy. We want something that calms her, not stimulates her.
Every baby likes something different, but this swing is absolutely worth a try!
