Baby Products Reviews of Fisher-Price Papasan Cradle Swing - Nature's Touch N1973Customer Review: A wonderful product! Summary: 5 Stars
After seeing it up-close in BRU, I registered for it and recieved it! *** Just a side note, we purchased this swing NOT as an entertainment one, but as a soothing one. We own a travel swing for entertainment ***
PROS
- The extra infant support. My now 5 month old was premature so this was helpful, and makes it more comfortable!
- I love the cradle motion, as does my son. We never really liked the back and fort until around 3 months old, so this was really the only option.
- I like the mirror, as does my baby (its a dome, so they really DO get a nice view!)
- the mobile is great too, as the birds spin and rotate, and the leaves go up and down and rotate!
- the music is calm and soothing. There are also a few volume settings
- the removable tray bar has a few toys, which is hard to find in a swing
- there are two possitions, reclined, or fully upright. My son now likes the fully upright most of the time
- its very stable and adorable!
- THE MOTOR IS SO QUIET! I cannot believe people saying otherwise, sometimes you cannot even tell that the swing is moving if the music isnt on!
CONS
- The mobile is fantastic, but after 6-8 minutes it shuts off and I have to push the button again, I wish it could play until you hit an OFF switch!
- Sure the papasan folds, but its more so you can get through a door rather than bring it anywhere! It would be a great improvment if the seat could fold sideways (vertically) so it would be more compact
- The toys are kinda boring, and oddly placed. I REALLY wish that the toys were removable so I could feed him easier, and so I could place my own toys on
- the swing warrnets a fair chunk of my family room/den!
- When the baby was under 2 months, the lowest setting still went a bit fast (slowed it down with dragging blankets) but this seems relivant with ALL swings.
All in all I highly reccomend this product, as it is a GREAT place for baby to sleep and relax. I also reccomend purchasing a more exciting bouncer or travel swing for playtime.
Customer Review: LOVE this swing! Summary: 5 Stars
Our infant son has Gastroesophagel Refux Disease and has been VERY ill. He is our fourth little one to suffer with this disease. With our three older children (13, 11, 8) we were unable to use any sort of swing as it increased their reflux symptoms. This "papasan" type of swing with side to side motion was not available at that time so our little ones were held constantly to keep their crying and reflux to a minimum. However, this swing has been a HUGE blessing!
The side to side motion is extremely gentle and can be increased as our little guy gets heavier to meet his needs. He loves the gentle "wave/nature" sounds that we control and enjoys watching the birds and leaves rotating above his head. He actually stops screaming to watch them. I like the fact that the music/animation stops after a few minutes because he usually falls asleep and it saves battery life.
We LOVE the papasan chair. It is so much easier to use than the older, conventional seats. It is extremely easy to get our little guy in and out of this seat. It cradles his little body securely, but with "comfy" room around him. We like how the soft headrest cushions his head so it doesn't "flop" around as he swings. I especially LOVE how easy it is to remove the chair cover to wash. It doesn't shrink and fits the chair very well.
The motor is extremely quite. However, the motor is extremely fragile. We had used it for only 2 months when it stopped working. We could hear it working and it would swing as long as there was no weight in the chair. We contacted BabiesRUs and they said that they were aware of the problem. (Apparently, it is a common problem.) They were happy to exchange the entire motor/animation section with no questions asked. (You need to make sure you ALWAYS turn the motor OFF before you adjust your little one, put on the toy bar or take your little one out.)
I HIGHLY recommend this swing...in fact I do to all my friends and family! It's AWESOME and it gives my arms and back a break!!!
Customer Review: A wonderful swing and more Summary: 5 Stars
This swing is also therapeutic. Our daughter got a bad cold and the chest congestion she had made it difficult for her to sleep at night. Our pediatrician suggested we keep her upper body inclined at night while she slept. Instead of putting blankets under the mattress, then another one under her legs to help her from sliding, the swing was safer. Her carrier was another idea, but her swing gave her room to stretch out. She was able to rest comfortable and I was more at ease knowing she was safe and content. It was easy to relocate from room to room. (By pushing the peg/pin that locks the leg, the legs collapse for easier storage or transporting). The melodies were comforting for her. As you probably already have read, the swing has different sounds of nature where I found it soothed her. At about two months she discovered herself in the mirror that is part of the mobile on the swing. The mobile also has plush-like butterflies and bees that move up, down, and twirls around as it circulates. Our baby is fascinated with this feature. It has micro-fiber and other soft material which makes it easier to clean and provides comfort. I found this swing to be a great buy, because it offered many features and is safe for baby. Like with any battery-operated or crank swing, it is not a total quiet swing. Because of the mechanisms that operate the swinging mode, it does have a click-like operating sound, but it's not noisey.
If you are considering the Papasan Seat as well, we have that, too. It has similar melodies that are soothing, but has a massage setting. This is also therapeutic for babies, especially ones that are in need of special care. It has an attatched micro-fiber blanket that velcros to fasten. If it is not needed, tuck it under and fasten it underneath to the seat. The base is sturdy and padded on the ends so it won't scratch any safe surface you place it on. We are very pleased with these products. I'm sure you and your baby will be pleased, too. Always keep your baby safe.
Customer Review: Potential FIRE HAZARD!!! Summary: 1 Stars
**PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THIS REVIEW IS FROM 2005 (SEE DATE WRITTEN)...I am a HUGE fan of Fisher Price products and think this was just a bad batch of motors. I am adding this info to my review in Jan of 2011 so parents don't read it and freak out thinking the problem still exists (although I do not know). I would delete the review since it is an old problem, but I want to leave it for parents to read and keep in mind crazy unthinkable things can happen and to always be looking for them...when something doesn't seem right, investigate immediately! Children are precious, it only takes one mistake/accident to change our lives forever. Original review follows...
When we first got this swing for our big baby boy (3 months and 16 pounds already!!), I loved it. He had room to squirm around and he could swing in 2 different ways. It wasn't until I started putting him into it in the middle of the night that I noticed there is a MAJOR problem with this swing. When the room is slightly dark and I turn the motor on after sitting for awhile, the plastic behind the dial would glow. I was confused because there are no lights on this swing. It would only glow for a mili-second. As time went on, the glow would last longer and longer. Then I smelled something funny. The glow is the motor sparking!! It smells awful like the plastic is melting inside. I have spoken with other owners and they have had the same problem. Fisher Price doesn't want to admit there is a problem with the swing and only offers a small gift certificate for your problems ($25), which isn't even CLOSE to the purchase price (at that time was $125). Something needs to be done about this before some innocent sweet child gets hurt. I often hang blankets over the swing, thank goodness nothing has happened so far. If anybody else out there has had the same problem, PLEASE contact Fisher Price about it and complain. I plan on getting with the Better Business Bureau to find out what more I can do since this is not a rare incident.
Customer Review: This Nanny's favorite thing for babies Summary: 5 Stars
I am a professional nanny and have been so for several years. I have worked for many familes and most of them have had newborns. I have taken care of only children, twins and triplets and also worked as a department manager at a Babies R Us store in the past. Given all of my work experience, I have had many opportunities to use most of the baby equipment on the market today. Of all of the items available, I LOVE the Fisher Price Cradle Swings the best. They has saved me so many times when one baby needs me and another begins to cry. One of the best things I have found is that the side to side motion is great for babies with reflux. A child with reflux should never be left to swing back and forth because that motion will almost always bring up his/her last meal. The side to side motion is much more gentle for babies with these problems. Also, one child I cared for has a cleft palate and anytime she brought up even a little formula it would fill up her nostrils, causing a huge issue with her breathing. In order for her airways to stay open, we had to do anything possible to prevent her from spitting up. Going back and forth in a swing was never an option so I am so greatful that her parents agreed to buy a cradle swing when I recommended it. She used it constantly for her first 14 months. Some people feel that the swing moves too fast for small babies and i agree. However, this problem is always remedied by laying a light blanket over the babies feet and allowing one side to hang over the edge by about a foot, creating a lag in the swing. This really helps to slow the swing down until the baby has enough body weight to keep it slow. One thing I caution all parents on is to never leave your baby unattended in it if he/she shows any signs of rolling over. I have never seen a baby fall out of a cradle swing but with the papasan swing, it is possible for them to hang over the edge a bit and get stuck in that position once they are strong enough to partially roll over.
