Baby Products Reviews of Fisher-Price Papasan Cradle Swing, Butterfly Garden

Customer Review: Even better in person. . .
Summary: 5 Stars

Fisher Price has finally updated the already wonderful Papasan Swing! First of all, this swing is SUPER EASY to assemble; all neccessary hardware/tools are included and the instructions are clear and simple. It is lightweight enough that I put it together myself at eight months pregnant. The base of the swing is very sturdy and well-made. The material is not the plush-type from the original version of the Papasan Swing, but the seat pad is washable and would probably soften with a couple of washes. The six speeds are all baby-friendly and not too fast, the music is quite pleasant, and the light projection is very pretty and soothing. There are several combinations of music/lights/swing speed, which is nice. The netting is a pretty detail, but also removable. The only drawback I can find with this swing (and it may only apply to the one I received) is that when the mobile turns, it makes a grinding/whirring sound that is loud enough to compete with the music. This might stop after several uses or not. Either way, I think this would be more an annoyance to parents since the grinding may actually be calming for babies who enjoy white noise. Overall, a beautiful, well thought out design - I LOVE IT!

Customer Review: Not a traditional swing.......
Summary: 3 Stars

I bought this swing online, it was not available in my area at all. Once it arrived I ended up returning it because it's not your typical swing. It does not sit upright. There are two positions, all the way back where the baby is basically lying on her back or slightly upright but still reclined. I prefer baby swings that have seats that will allow the baby to sit upright when they get a little older. Also, the way the swing is designed makes it kind of difficult to get the baby out, especially if you're trying not to wake her up. My twins were only a few weeks old when I tried this swing and I found it difficult to get them out, so I can only imagine what it would be like getting out a larger baby. Overall I think this swing is more to put the baby to sleep instead of entertain her.

It's not all bad though. This is a good swing for a newborn to sleep in, the seat is really soft and comfy looking and the light display is just adorable. Also it plays a nice selection of sweet girly songs, like "Let me call you sweetheart." I also like the option of swinging from side to side or back and forth.

Customer Review: Great but.....
Summary: 2 Stars

My baby loves, loves, loves this swing. We love it because it swings two ways. If he gets fussy swinging one way, we turn him around and swing him the other way.

Now, the reason for the two stars: the motor went out... Twice! We purchased the first swing in December 06. In February the motor went out and we had to get another one. Then just today, April 25, 07 the motor conked out AGAIN!

We don't even turn on the lights for our baby because they distract him. All he ever does is swing. I don't think we got a lemon.... TWICE! I think it's a flaw in the motor.

Someone talked about this item not being sturdy. It doesn't feel sturdy but it is. It has to stand on two legs because you need to turn the swing. We've never had any problems with it breaking down. We only have motor issues.

At $159 the motor should not go out. I'd stay away from it.

If you can get another model that swings both ways, do that. That's the only feature that is absolutely fantastic about it.

Customer Review: Very nice swing
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought this swing through Amazon.com about 4 months ago. It came in quickly and at a very discounted price compared to other retailers. The only issue I had with the swing is the switch on the right side of the motor that controls the butterfly light between the battery and a/c plug setting. This difference is that the lights turn off in about 15 minutes under the battery and stay on constantly under the a/c. The switch will not work most of the time on the a/c power and I can only get the light to turn on under the battery setting side. I called fisher-price about the problem and they sent me a new motor. I received it in about 4 days after calling. The 2nd motor does the same thing. I have had no problem with the motor itself so far. When there is a heavier baby in the swing you have to run it on high to get it to swing at all, but with my 2 week old daughter in it, it swings fine on the lower settings. Luckily if the motor does go out for me, I have the old one that still works too.

Customer Review: Baby loves it but I have to agree with some of the -ve's mentioned by others!
Summary: 3 Stars

We got this for our baby girl and first started using it when she was 3 1/2 weeks. She loved it then..in fact it encouraged her first coos as she tried to talk to the butterflies and still loves it now at 9 weeks.

I have only given it three stars as I have to agree with some of the points made by other reviewers.

1. It makes a loud creaking/grinding noise as it swings

2. Even on the lowest setting the swinging is much too vigorous for a newborn...I put it one for a few swings then turn it off.

For my child, it is stimulating so I cant use it as a sleep aid.because as soon as I put her in it..she is looking for the lights and butterflies whether we put them on or not.

While the colors are quite cutesy and sweet for a girl..(pale pink & green)..I wonder how long it will keep her entertained as she grows. If I had seen it in the shop, I would have gone for a more colorful model myself.
