Baby Products Reviews of Fisher-Price Ocean Wonders Aquarium BouncerCustomer Review: Entertaining as baby gets older. Summary: 4 Stars
At first my husband and I thought this bouncer was a waste of money. It was a total flop. My baby didn't really care for the vibrations and the toy bar did nothing for her. For the past few weeks (she is 12 weeks old now) she has become very interested in her bouncer. Starting at 6 weeks old, she would stare at the toy bar and it would keep her interested for maybe 10 minutes. She now can kick the dangling toys and set off the bouncer. She talks to the bouncer and we think she understands that her kicking sets it off.
My parents have the Learning Patterns Rocker and she really likes that. We think that she might have liked the Kick and Play sooner because it has brighter hanging toys. But each baby is different so it is hard to tell what your baby wil like until you try it out. And my daughter now really likes this toy!
The reason for 4 stars: The music is terrible when it is on continuous play. The music on our Papasan Swing(great investment, by the way!) is much better. I don't think the baby likes the music either. She only likes the water sounds and the snippets of music she gets when she kicks. Also, the toys are in a funny location. In order to activate the bar, she has to move the toys with her knees and not actually kick them.
Customer Review: Put Your Baby In The Seat First! Summary: 2 Stars
My mother bought this bouncy seat to keep at her house because it was on sale and our 5-month-old loved a different Fisher Price model we already had in our home. It's probably great for younger babies and, in theory, seems like it would be a nice bouncy seat. There were, however, a few problems for my baby. First, it wasn't as sturdy as the other one and when we put my daughter in it for the first time it bent way down and scared her to tears. I can't imagine it being safe for a 25-pound baby. Our daughter was only 15 pounds at the time. Second, her legs hung over the end of the seat so she couldn't activate the extra sounds with her feet like she could on the other Fisher Price bouncy seat. Third, the belt was really low on her hips and there was no way to raise it. It looked like she would fall out if she started wiggling. Finally, the non-flexible toys that hung from the toy bar were nowhere near her hands, but hung down onto her shins. They were so strangely positioned that she couldn't kick them OR grab at them. It's just a really weirdly engineered bouncer. Again, it's probably great for newborns, but if you can only use it for a few months, what's the point? The vibrating motion is wonderful, but you can find that option on a lot of other seats.
Customer Review: NOISY 'bubbles' sound! Our baby hated it. Summary: 1 Stars
This bouncer was passed on to us. At first I thought there must be something wrong, because the bubbles sound is VERY loud and UGLY. Yes, as another reviewer wrote, it does sound like a machine gun. My brother-in-law was puzzled: 'I'd leave out the battery that makes that noise if I were you!' he commented. The mother who'd given it to me said 'yes, I know it seems horrible, but children love it'.
Well, our baby stared in horror and then started crying, the first time we tried that noise on her at a couple of months or so. I put it away and got it out several months later. Same result. And although in theory the bouncer can be used without this ugly noise, it's designed so operating the plastic fish and seahorse and the lights involves switching on that noise. It's really what the bouncer is all about. Well, from reading other reviews here, I see that ours is not the only baby to hate it!
I passed it on free to another mother; it was worth her while to take it and see how her son likes it, since she wasn't paying for it. I'd certainly recommend trying it out first before buying. By the way, babies don't necessarily need bouncy seats. We didn't get one (but she does have an aquarium swing, which is much more satisfactory).
Customer Review: A godsend for reflux baby, Summary: 5 Stars
This chair was honestly a godsend. It was the best money I ever spent. We bought it when our son was a few weeks old, and we still believe that it is the single best baby product we have. When he was a newborn and infant, he cried constantly. We later found out he had severe GERD (Gastroesophageal reflux disease). This chair was one of the only things that could soothe him. When I got this chair, I was finally able to take showers, go to the bathroom, and eat. He even slept in it sometimes. Not only that, being a reflux baby, he had to remain in an elevated position for 30 minutes after each feeding. Our arms were giving out from holding him so much. When we got this chair, we were finally able to put him down because it kept him elevated.
He is an alert baby, and he LOVED to look at the lights on this chair. He also liked the soothing music. He is now 9 months old and he still likes his bouncer. We now keep it on the baby activated setting and he has a great time kicking the fishies and putting his feet up on the bar. He has other "entertainment" chairs now that are more exciting now that he is older, but I still keep this one in the kitchen and plop him in it when I have to cook, do dishes, etc. I can't recommend this chair enough.
Customer Review: Great to watch for a newborn, older kids might get frustrated Summary: 3 Stars
This bouncer has been great with just a few drawbacks. When my daughter was one month old we started putting her in this and now at nearly six months old she still finds the 'dancing fish' entertaining. Now that she is at the stage that she wants to reach and play however she finds the toys hovering over her knees difficult to reach and frustrating. I find that I can still put her in it to watch the fish and as long as I give her a second toy to keep her hands and mouth busy she'll be content to sit and watch the fish for at least 15 minutes at a stretch... these days she'll even put her feet up on the lower part of the plastic ledge and tap at the fish with her foot. The music gets old fast so I really appreciated that there are selections of water running or rain, or simply off... keep in mind that the bubbles that make the fish move still make a physical sound not matter what setting it's on. We did buy a second and much cheaper bouncer (Brightstarts) that reclines at different angles and has a toy bar that goes across the baby's midsection with dangling interchangable toys that she loves to grab and gum so that one has been a better learning experience, but the Aquarium Bouncer still serves a purpose in our household.
