Baby Products Reviews of Fisher-Price Ocean Wonders Aquarium BouncerCustomer Review: OW! Hard plastic hanging toys... Summary: 3 Stars
First, let me say that I love my bouncer seat. It is an absolute must for any mother who wants to have a few minutes of baby-free arms. It's great for feeding a baby who can't sit up on their own yet to be in a high chair. It's great to sit and "chat" and play with a baby, with both hand free. It's even great to watch Baby Einstein.
The bouncer itself is great, and I LOVE the vibration feature (although it does seem to induce blow outs in my little girl more often than it lulls her to sleep).
BUT... the toy bar has these hanging toys that hurt her knees. I thought it would be great to have something for her to kick at... and it is. But they are made out of really hard plastic, and hang so that she can't kick at all without banging her knees on them. And if you attach the "so-called" teethers (which are just hard plastic, and not really helpful for teething babies at all), the edges of the toys are banging on her knees.
Also, the toys can ONLY be kicked at. They are attached to the toy bar in such a way that the baby can't reach them without sitting up, and I can't push them towards her enough for her hands to reach them.
The bubbles and sounds from the toy bar are great, and she loves to watch the fishes and starfish move. But the hanging toys need to be replaced with something a little less painful.
Customer Review: An unique touch of it's own Summary: 4 Stars
We received this bouncer as a gift for our daughter. I liked the ocean theme that Fisher Price carried throughout their baby products with the Ocean Wonders line. The bouncer offers different settings for you to choose which is nice especially after time when you're the one listening to the bubbling water & music. It does use up batteries quickly it seems but more so in the arch than the base that vibrates. (You know it's time to change the batteries when the music setting sounds like it's straining to hit the notes.) The removable seat cushion is easy to take off for washing. I did notice that the mechanisms seemed to get louder over time but with the music on it's not a reason I would not recommend it. It offers a selection of how the bouncer is used, baby activated or continuous, plus sounds or music. The choices offer a nice variety of nature sounds to compliment the bubbling water & fish in the arch. Also, the seat can be on vibrate and the arch can be turned off while hanging toys played with or remove the arch & have just the seat. Once your little one discovers rolling over, you will probably need to pack up the bouncer seat. My daughter would wiggle & roll onto her side in the seat while grabbing at the sides. You should get 5-6 months of good use out of this product. A nice little extra to have if you like bouncey seats.
Customer Review: Loved by baby and mom, until he fell out at 5 months! Summary: 4 Stars
As a newborn, my son could have been an advertisement for this bouncer. As soon as I put him in it, he would stop fussing and go to sleep. When he got a little older, he loved watching the lights and the fish and playing with the toys using his hands and feet. The seat purports to be safe to use until a baby can sit up on his own, but after a few months, it seemed like the lap belt wasn't big enough to hold him in. I trusted that it was designed well-enough to hold him and continued to use it, but always on the floor, just to be safe. Yes, I know the user is warned to never place anywhere but on the floor, but how else is a mom supposed to keep the baby safe from his bigger brothers and the dog's drool? Anyway, one day I put him in it when he was almost 5 months-old and turned away for a minute to replace the battery on the smoke detector (safety first!), when he started making a strange sound. When I turned back around, I saw that his bottom half was still strapped in and the seat was still upright, but his upper body had rolled out of it and his head was resting on the floor! He wasn't hurt at all, but I immediately put it away. I still gave this bouncer a high rating because he enjoyed it so much, but please be careful when using it with an active baby. The lap belt could use improvement.
Customer Review: Worth every penny. Summary: 5 Stars
This bouncer is worthy every penny. I started putting my son in it when he was around 4-weeks old and he still uses it all the time and he is almost 7-months old now. This is one baby item which has paid for itself (though I got this as a gift!) I really don't know how we could have done without it. It is just the thing to use when you are done with carrying your little one around, done playing with him in your lap, tummy-time is done and laying on the Boppy or the play-mat is done as well. I mostly use it without the arch because he just likes the reclined position and the bounce. He became interested in the sounds and the fish around 3-4 months of age. He always enjoyed the vibrations though. The volume has two-settings, not too soft and not too loud. There is a nice variety of sounds/music - not annoying in the least bit. I have gotten many chores done while my baby has been in this bouncer.
It is easy to assemble and is very sturdy. The grips on the frame are an excellent non-slip feature. It has a three-point harness which is a nice safety feature. Excellent battery-life. Vibrant fabric which is easy to clean. I don't know what we are going to replace the bouncer with once my baby outgrows it. Would definitely buy again and highly recommend it.
Customer Review: I Love this toy! Summary: 5 Stars
I have loved this toy since the day my son came home from the hospital! We put our son in it every morning after his first feeding. It has been a fun start to his day. The 2nd week of my son's life, my husband started teaching him how to use this toy. Of course he was too young to bat at the toys with his hands, so he taught him how to bat at the toys with his feet. That afternoon we noticed our 2 week old newborn trying to kick the toys. He is almost 4 months now and kicks them like crazy. He has learned to hold his feet in the air in front of the toys to wait for the music to stop so he can kick them again and be rewarded. We also own the Ocean Wonder travel swing which is a toy where he uses his hands to play. Since we have both, we are just letting his bouncer be a kicking toy.
We have NEVER had any trouble with this toy tipping over or with our son falling out. I believe it is all in the way the operator uses it. We have always strapped our son in & as he has grown we have continued to lift the flap higher so he is more secure. I have felt that this toy is very sturdy and with the way my son kicks it, I don't believe it will ever tip over. As with every toy you put your child in, the parent should be close enough by to help if anything goes wrong.
