Baby Products Reviews of Fisher-Price Ocean Wonders Aquarium BouncerCustomer Review: disappointing (esp. compared to other bouncer) Summary: 3 Stars
This bouncer is way over-rated in my opinion. We liked the first Fisher-Price bouncer that we had much better - too bad that the battery holder was badly designed and once our baby really kicked he would knock the batteries out of place. Luckily, they figured that out and in this version the batteries "sit" instead of "hanging." That's all the good I have found with this one compared to the old one (it was neon green/can't remember the name). Safety/comfort-wise this one stinks! We joke that it looks like our baby is wearing a Speedo since the fabric & latch system is so small; it got to the point that we had to stop using it because when our baby tried to get out but was STILL strapped in, he would end up doing a headstand on the floor - so lower body in the chair, upper body hanging out, over and down! He also was very uninterested in the toys that hang on the toy bar. I think that in part it is because of the design - it didn't allow him much room for kicking or reaching to grab. All around disappointing design.
Customer Review: Not good for low weight or older babies. Summary: 2 Stars
We received this bouncer as a gift when my twins were born. Our babies were born very small, under 5 lbs each, and we could not use this bouncer until they were 2 months old as they were too little and were not enveloped enough in this seat. We also had a kick 'n play that was much deeper and kept them much more "snug".
The other issue is that the three points of the harness are all very close to each other. When the child gets a little older and can begin to sit up (maybe 4-5 months), they pull up and lean to the side and basically pivot at their waist. This is incredibly dangerous as the weight of the baby almost tips the chair over. This never happened with the kick 'n play because the harness points are pretty far from each other on that seat.
My girls did love the bubbles and the fish. It was actually a soothing activity chair rather than an exciting one, which was good for right before bed. I just had to be there at all times to make sure that they did not hurt themselves.
Customer Review: Good Product Summary: 4 Stars
This vibration feature on this chair is great. My son will nap in it for an hour or two and I can put it in our tiny bathroom and take a shower without him making a peep! Now that he is three month's old we can put it on the 'baby activated' setting and he really enjoys kicking and batting the hanging toys to make the bubbles and music turn on. He laughs and laughs each time he is successful. However, I do have safety concerns as my child has also slipped off the side of the chair and was left hanging with just the waist strapped in. Thankfully I was right there and could pick him up right away. I found that folding hand-towels on either side of him helped him stay upright for the first two months or so. Now he can hold himself up much better. Also, I think the music is pretty darn annoying but that seems to come with the territory when it comes to kid's toys. And, it would be much better if they could make it fold up more for travel purposes. Overall I'm glad I have this product and it's been a life saver.
Customer Review: Not a safe seat! Summary: 2 Stars
This bouncer is great, it is very colorful and the aquarium toy bar is very nice, but the seat is only secured to the frame with velcro. My daughter was only 10 pounds when the velcro started to loosen and eventually detached and my daughter fell onto the floor, but wasn't hurt seriously, just a bruise on her cheek and scared. I bought a bigger piece of adhesive velcro and that began to loosen as well. I complained to Toys r Us and they returned it for the full purchase price. I bought a different bouncy seat that had buckles to secure the seat to the frame instead of velcro. I would seriously look over the Aquarium bouncy seat before purchasing it and consider the safety issues with only velcro holding the seat together. Perhaps they have improved this, but by the looks of the seat online just the pattern has changed. I would not recommend purchasing the Aquarium bouncy seat product if you plan on using it for your child past 10 pounds. Be careful, bouncy seats are great but not all are made safely!
Customer Review: Great seat for sleeping, playing, hanging out Summary: 5 Stars
We have 2 daughters and have used 'bouncy seats' with both of them. We put of them in it almost from day one since you can strap them in. As time went on and they learned to move around more the toys kept them occupied and made them feel more like they were a part of the family. Depending on the personality of your child you can use this seat until they're almost a year old. (some kids after a certain age won't want to be strapped down). Some common times we've used this are: when cooking, vacuuming, taking a quick shower, and doing other activities where you need to be mobile on concentrating more on what you're doing than where your baby is. Some of our fondest memories of our kids when they were very young was when we were cooking dinner and they were in this seat on the table near us and watching them make their first attempts at talking to us by coo'ing and making spitting sounds. As an extra bonus, this comes with a vibrator which will also keep them calm(er) and help them to sleep.
