Customer Review: Pros and cons for daycare and home use
Summary: 4 Stars

I purchased this product for my infant and have used it now for two and a half years, two of my own babies, and a daycare run from our house.

I LOVE the fact that the receiver will reach from the nursery window to the mailbox, the garden, and even grandma's house (our nearest neighbor).

I like the multiple channels. I have multiple monitors and while you can put them all on the same channel and monitor multiple rooms at once, I prefer to have each room on a different channel so I can flip through and easily monitor the children in each room separately. This helps cut down on background noise as well.

I find that the background noise is easily managed by turning down the monitor. When the volume is turned all the way up I can hear the clock ticking in my sons' room (I can't even hear the clock when I am IN the room). Turned about halfway down I can easily hear when they start to fuss without hearing every hiccup and sigh amplified (and without static).

From reading other reviews the apparent reason people can't get batteries to work is that you have to unplug the AC adapter! I'm also not sure why you would use batteries all night when I'm sure everyone has an outlet within close proximity of their bed....I keep my receiver plugged into the wall in a central location and only use the batteries when I am outside and don't have access to an outlet. I have probably changed the batteries once or maybe twice in over two years.

My only complaint is that transmitters are not sold separately or two transmitters with one receiver instead of the other way around. I only need ONE receiver that I keep with me but I would like to have four or five transmitters (two upstairs bedrooms, one nursery, one or two for basement playrooms and den).

If multiple rooms could operate on one channel without so much interference and I could buy additional transmitters without receivers I would certainly give this product five stars.

Customer Review: I'm underwhelmed
Summary: 3 Stars

I have a complicated house with big stone walls blocking off rooms from each other, so I need audio monitors with good long-range capabilities. I struck out with the Graco Vibe iMonitor, which claims a 2000-ft range, and so I tried this one instead. I can't go from one corner of the house to the other, so instead I have to leave the receiver in one room and turn the volume up pretty high so I can hear it from the rest of the house. With the volume up any appreciable amount, there is a lot of humming and background white noise, that sounds like the fan on my laptop running. So although I am able to listen in on the nursery, I also have to listen to a lot of noise that isn't really there. I just bought the Summer Infant Day & Night video monitor, which also operates at 900 Mhz, and I am amazed at how crisp and low-noise its audio is compared to this Fisher-Price unit. Also, I'm not entirely sure how the red indicator lights work on this receiver, since my baby can be crying his head off and only one LED lights up.

The product didn't cost a whole lot so I'm not too upset about buying it, but I would not recommend the product to any other parents. For audio only, I am much more impressed with the Sony line of monitors and will stick with them from now on.

Customer Review: Works but not what I hoped for
Summary: 3 Stars

Well with the birth of my daughter, my wife and I of course purchased our monitor and loved it the first night. The receiver works both on batteries or plugged into a wall outlet which is a nice feature. It does pick up some static for us but the sound quality compared to static is great.

The receiver works for about one night (about 8-10 hours of use) on batteries and then you need to switch/recharge them. I use the same rechargable batteries in other devices and have no issues but of course a constant use of a battery for 10 hours is much.

In short, I figured I would then just use the receiver plugged in and have fresh batteries inserted incase of a power outage... no go there, this product likes to stay off during a power outage. It's as if the unit knows the DC power cord is plugged in and will not switch over to batteries.

Overall, great product if you have the patients of charging batteries every day or have some form of backup power supply to your wall outlets. Being a Fisher Price product we expected more, but for myself and my wife, we don't like chancing a power outage and not have the receiver switch over to batteries so this is being exchanged for another monitor.

Customer Review: Worked once, then the receiver/handset died
Summary: 1 Stars

We got this as a baby shower gift, and we opened it up before the baby was born. All was well the first time I tested the base and the handset unit when plugged into the wall, so I discarded the packaging.

After the baby was born a month later, however, I tried to put three AAA batteries (not included) into the back of the handset unit to use it. It stopped working--both the AC and DC power sources. I tried taking the batteries out, but it didn't work even when plugged into the wall outlet.

I called Amazon to tell them it was defective, and they said that I couldn't replace the unit because it was no longer available. Instead, they "refunded" me only $34.91 of an $89.95 + tax unit with a gift card. I feel bad for the person who bought this for us at our shower, because they just threw money away. And we're still without a working baby monitor. It's too bad the unit was defective in the first place, and it's really shameful customer service on the part of Amazon.com.

My advice is to shop around! My sister loaned us a Summer Infant, Inc. monitor that has been working well--and it's at least 3, maybe even 6 years old.

Customer Review: Does not recharge itself Takes 3 AAA batteries to work cordless
Summary: 4 Stars

I am pregnant with my second child and received these monitors as a gift. I hooked them up in my 3 year olds room to use them for a while to be sure they worked fine and they seem to work great. No static or interference but i just realized unlike my other set of Fisher price Monitors i have used for the last 3 years for my daughter they do not recharge themselves they take 3 AAA batteries in order to use them cordless. My first set charged when plugged in with a built in battery. I unplugged these yesterday while daughter was napping and tried to go outside with it and it wouldn't work to my suprise it has been plugged in for about a week. I had full intention to return it until i looked at it and it looked like back came off and well it does and there is a spot for batteries. If you don't plan on using it unplugged very often i would recommend it but i use mine unplugged alot so i dont like it too much thats just more batteries i will have to buy.
